It's good to see so much Ronnie Lane & The Faces love of late (all from you, I notice) NP. (recently splashed out on updating my Fairport albums for the remastered versions, and this one benefits most from the process)

what is the saddest song you know?
Synthesizer Patel replied to anodyne's topic in Someone Else's Song
you think? i find pretty much everything she wrote very uplifting. -
Moving the t and the s around doesn't count as a reinvention, in my book.

Was that AC Slater from Saved By The Bell?
-
Me too; it's good isn't it. Don't know if it's getting a UK release any time soon though. It's out in america in a week or two apparently.

I thought you said you didn't do irony?

Well, kind of I guess (Rick Wakeman was in the band for a while in their early career, perhaps explaining that), but then most of those Folk Rock bands cross into progressive rock too. From the Witchwood & Grave New World are worth getting, but only start getting this stuff after you've bought or downloaded Trees - On The Shore, Trees - The Garden of Jane Delawney, Fotheringay - Fotheringay & Sandy Denny - The North Star Grassman and the Ravens, and the first 4 or 5 Fairport Convention albums, cos all those are really the best of the bunch. NP. Abbey Road

Mellow Candle were a great band - shame they only really made one proper album. Steeleye Span can be a little hit and miss (more miss than hit at time actually), but all the others you mentioned are great. I don't know if you've got any Trees, Fotheringay, Springuns, Pentangle, or early Strawbs, but if not, you'd like all of those too I'd imagine (there are loads more bands and solo artists, but they are all good for starters). NP.

I've been liking your recent choices in music! Mellow Candle, too. By the way, if you haven't got her seond album (Stargazer) you should get it, I think it's a better album and you even get some Richard Thompson on guitar (but then nearly every single good British folk album in the 1970s did) NP.

Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" Announcement
Synthesizer Patel replied to SquashedFrog's topic in Someone Else's Song
It does, doesn't it. It's modern day Pearl Jam though, which is the type of Pearl Jam that I don't like. What Bruce has lost, to me (which is why I don't like any of his new stuff) is any sense of humour or swing to his music, trouble is though, that he's not even dark anymore either (like most of Nebraska for example) - he's just stuck in some middle ground of ineffectuality . . . I mean - "Radio Nowhere!" To me, that's just a big bunch of 'sucky-boom-fucky' -

yeah, that bit; something about mick burning if he goes near a light?; mick moaning about a moving camera; and the general feeling it looked like a poor man's last waltz has put me off wanting to see this. the music sounded better than i thought it would (except the sound of the drums & mick's voice), though.

Has anyone posted the new trailer on youtube anywhere? I can't see it, unless I'm being blind; so here it is: I'm getting more and more excited about this. I knew from the moment I heard the choice of title for the film that it would be good, but it just keeps looking better and better. -
The albums (that I've heard) I think that are worth getting on cd are: 1. Cowboy In Sweden (although it's currently out of print & expensive, and clearly taken straight from the vinyl masters) 2. 13 (this is easier to find, and incredibly funky - the drumming is brilliant) 3. Requiem For An Almost Lady (also fairly easy to find cheap, and full with fantastic songs - especially 'if it's monday morning') 4. Poet, Fool Or Bum (kind of the last really good album he released, in my view)

they're streaming the album on myspace, if anyone's still not heard it.

I'm Not There - Soundtrack Revealed?
Synthesizer Patel replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
No , I was talking about the thread in which people complained about Ryan Adams selling out when he did adverts as a Violent Wrangler, who rode out to the Joshua tree they burnt Gram Parsons's corpse, and pissed all over it. I think Analogman must have moved it? -

Synthesizer Patel replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
yeah, actually, sorry; we should build on this (one more nugget of fact a day) right up until the release date - the uk release date, which will be next year probably. see how far this can go - it's gotta have more mileage than the ryan adams and vw ads threads, surely. -
