RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!
jimmyjimmy replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
Yep..caught him at Plan 9 earlier that evening too. BTW...Isbell will be in Cville @ the Sattelite Ballroom on 10/9 -
FYI: A second show has been added in C,ville Va. for Friday the 14 of Sept. Pre-sale is happening now.... This guy is costing me some serious $$ this year. It's a good thing tho...

Trevor Moore is one of our local boys, and a funny dude. Local weekly mags were publishing his comic strip when he was very young...(10-11yrs old). Nice to see he's having some wide spread success...

Always liked this guy. A little abrasive but really pretty cool. I think U2s first North American TV appearance was on this show; (certainly the first time I ever saw them was there). Think they played "Electric Co." There was also a great interview /segment with the Clash. EDIT:

Exactly...burnt out on it. Physical Graffiti never gets old tho....

Yeah, very much so. And I don't even like the record that much!

Hey guys, what's Toad's like and how many people does it hold? I've got tix. for Andrew Bird in Sept. I was in town this past weekend talking with a fellow up on W. Cary St. and he said they're still working on getting their liquor license in order. BTW...for any of you who have in the past frequented Starr Hill up in C,ville to catch a show, the venue is no more. It's been sold and rumor is that it'll be converted into a "sports-type" bar. I'm still smarting over that one.... -
Michael Chabon's Summerland, and the Final Solution are both good reads and suitable for a girl her age.
-
Sure, that dude brought the Beetle back, but did he fill the tank back up? Bastard...
-
to all of that. Still #3 on my list behind Boxer, and Armchair Apocrypha, but yeah....
-
I whole heartedly agree w/you here. That said, it's still pretty cool when more succesful bands allow smaller acts the opportunity to share a bill with them.
-
If you go to a shop, more than likely they're gonna charge you for the strings and the service to install. Idiot? No. Just someone who's never done it before.....You can do this, it's easy man...
-
Yeah, they're pretty good. Seen them twice this year; (same goes for the Wilcos) If your familiar w/ the material, don't expect an exact representation by any means in a concert setting tho...they're a lot more loose and raucous on stage. This will really reveal itself against a band like Wilco who is absolutely at the top of their game right now.

There's no hate with HTTT w/me. It's a solid album. Put it up against the likes of OK, Bends, Amnesiac and Kid A and it's a little lacking but hey...what isn't. And about those early mixes, not only were they different, I'd argue that they may have been better.

The glory that is my mustache is not accurately represented here.

See, this is why I love this place. Thanks for the update man...and glad you had what sounds like a kick-ass time

There really is a VW ad with blackfolk and no Wilco music
jimmyjimmy replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Just A Fan
Not terribly surprised or shocked by this. If they (VW) are aiming this particular commercial at the Black/ African American demographic in an effort to sell cars Wilco would probably not be the best fit for it's soundtrack. BTW, out of curiosity, do you know who's music is featured, if any? -
Damn. that's a good fit w/The Twilight Sad. Chicago in late September huh......
-
Have a great time! Here's to hoping your luck tonight is better than mine was Tuesday.
-
Still haven't heard the entire record, however I'll pick up a copy at a in-store gig tomorrow at Plan 9 music in Richmond VA. and see him later that evening at the Canal Club. Can't wait for this!

I truly believe that the boys from Wilco are currently playing at the top of their game right now. There's probably not a better live rock show out there right now on the road, and I've seen 'em twice this year. That said, considering the circumstances, I'd go w/the National.
