It finally happened: On what would've been my third Ryan show last evening, at approx. one hour after the doors to the venue were scheduled to have opened, ushers announced to the crowd that Ryan's plane had been delayed and the the performance for the evening was cancelled. While it was probably something benign and simple like mechanical difficulties I can't help feeling disappointed since I was really looking forward to hearing the new material live. Also kinda feel as if I'm a member of the collective of concert goers out there who've experienced this kinda thing due to a myriad of circu

I use one... and I think your right. Probably. It's hands down the best fuzz I've ever owned. You can nail a classic fuzz-face sound with it and then tweak it to your satisfaction. However, subtle inputs make for dramatic changes. What statrts out warm a fuzzy easily evolves into nasty and over the top. Honestly, I wish I could afford a second unit: One for my normal overdriven fuzz and a second for high oscillation effects. Edit: About the initial Nels question. FWIW....It's probably more technique than anything (that wash of sound...yeah, I know what your talking about). Mix in a heaping

The band should seriously consider getting a gig poster design that incorperates one of these.

Gave up worrying about scratches, dings and stuff years ago. *CHARACTER!!! About once a year I go mad with a can of pledge...or endust (something??) and get all the nasty stuff off and shine them up pretty. Usually with an orphaned sock or a hand towel.

I have no idea who they are or what they sound like but based on the title and the album cover I'm going out to find that. Brilliant. NP: Ohh, now tell me where can you party, all night long? In the basement, down in the basement, . Oh where can you go when your money gets low? In the basement, whoa down in the basement -

Really? Damn. I suppose it's for the best...see him on 7/10 in an old theatre that's probably more appropriate for an acoustic set. Although I had my heart set on a balcony shaking version of "Goodnight Rose".

Icky Thump - New White Stripes album

Soooo. Did you guys see Jack and Meg on Conan last night? (I'd no idea they were going to be on the show this week). Haven't seen the entire set yet. Tivo'ed it, and watched "Icky Thump" and just a little of "Effect and Cause" this AM. Thought the sound was pretty horrible. Jacks guitar during Icky Thump was pretty uneven throughout the entire song and Meg's drum level came up noticeably about midway through the tune. They seemed a bit rusty too....maybe it was just the mix throwing them off. -
Man, that is a little harsh. Jimmy was touring and gigging long before Stevie was ever even on the scene. And although it's been a great many years since I've seen him live he used to do a pretty spirited job of rockin a joint back in the day w/The T'birds.

First, I think your going to have to consider the particulars of these hollow bodies your considering. Your talking Casinos and ES-335s. Realize that a Casino is a totally hollow bodied instrument and an 335 is semi-hollow with a solid core down the middle. So it's really apples and oranges here: 335 will give you greater sustain and a heavier bottom end. Casinos are a little mellower on attack and IMO have a bit sweeter overall sound. More sonically resonant with lots more harmonic overtones going on;(also of note is that they are a bit more prone to feedback a bit easier). And then there's t
