  1. I've seen six of the Best Picture nominees, which is a record for me. I like all the ones I've seen, except for Arrival, which I didn't like at all. My vote goes to Lion. (The ones I have not seen are Hacksaw Ridge, Manchester By the Sea, and Moonlight.)
  2. I feel the same way. Unfortunately, that's probably what they're counting on.
  3. So, what awful decision did he make today that this 5 million illegal votes thing is supposed to distract us from? I am not going to be able to take four years of this.
  4. The fact that he is harping on and on about the crowd size just reinforces in my mind that the one main thought in his head at all times is "Mine has to be bigger!". This makes it very hard for me to take him seriously about anything. You'd think being elected President would have sublimated some of that. Ugh.
  5. I totally agree that he is acting like a baby. He has a narrow window of opportunity to connect with people who did not vote for him. He is not off to a good start.
  6. Shook you in a good or bad way? I can't decide if I should see it or not. The trailer, and reviews I've read, make the movie seem terribly disturbing. I'm not sure I'd be able to endure it. Although I felt the same way about 12 Years a Slave, and when I finally saw that after years of avoiding it, I was able to make it through without much difficulty.
  7. I would say "Donald, I so much want to believe that deep down inside you are a decent human being. Please don't let your country down."
  8. I'll be at work, so will miss the whole thing. I may watch the news when I get home. With my eyes half closed. This whole thing still has a somewhat surreal feeling for me, like it's too bizarre to really be happening.
  9. Cory Booker has rubbed me the wrong way since he was mayor of Newark. I voted against him in the primary for the special election that made him senator. There were more deserving candidates. Something about Cory Booker has never rung true for me.
  10. His response is being talked about on the news this morning. I immediately assumed he tweeted a response, but was somewhat surprised that he responded in a (very?) early morning interview with the NY Times. I'm not sure what that says about the NY Times.
  11. I saw 3 movies over the past few days: La La Land, Jackie, and Fences. I liked Jackie the best, although all were excellent in their own way.
  12. Santa Claus is Outtasite (Outta Mind) We Three Kings of Orient Are Trying to Break Your Heart
  13. The Pernice Brothers! I was a big fan at the time. Joe Pernice is great, but he never really evolved and his records are kind of samey. I know he put out an album awhile back under the name of The New Mendicants with one of the guys from Teenage Fanclub, but I don't think I've heard anything about him since. He got married and moved to Canada and seems to have faded from view,
  14. Car Seat Headrest - thanks to this forum! I also really like what I've heard of Nathaniel Rateliff, but haven't really taken the plunge to check him out properly yet.
  15. I can't echo this sentiment strongly enough. Many years ago, some musician friends of mine put on a tribute show to the Bobby Fuller Four. At the time, the only song of theirs I knew was I Fought the Law. Then I went to the show, and subsequently bought the Best of the Bobby Fuller Four and I was completely blown away. Here's another choice cut - the song is called Never to Be Forgotten: edit: sorry I don't know how to post the fancy video link.
  16. I had never heard of NRBQ until I heard Yo La Tengo's cover of What Can I Say. And then NRBQ went on to become one of my all time favorite bands. I don't really consider the current band calling themselves NRBQ to be NRBQ, although they're entertaining.
  17. Yes, I will definitely try that! I have you to thank for getting me to try StubHub btw.
  18. Unfortunately no. It's not possible for me to buy tickets at typical on sale times, so that lets me out of many chances for tickets right there. $75 + transportation costs to NYC is pretty much out of my price range right now, especially considering I'm pretty "meh" towards Schmilco. And I would only be able to go on the Saturday anyway, unless I took a day off from work. Didn't seem worth it to me right now.
  19. High ticket prices in the NY area are definitely the new normal. $100 seems to be the typical price for a theater show, even in NJ now. I can't afford $100 for a concert ticket. I'm slowly accepting the fact that my favorite leisure-time activity for the last 35 years is no longer affordable for me. Oh well. I see a lot of movies now instead. *shrugs*
  20. Interesting. I saw the Decemberists a little over a year ago (my first time seeing them) and was surprised at how great (and funny!) they were. I've been looking forward to seeing them again ever since!
  21. I have not seen a lot of shows this year, but the Stone Roses at Madison Square Garden was one for the ages. A dream come true!
  22. The only one that immediately springs to mind is R.E.M. at a gymnasium (?) at Drew University (Madison, NJ, but you know that ) somewhere in the mid 80's. Michael Stipe gave us Chinese food through a window while we were waiting to get in, LOL
  23. I am speechless. I cannot believe my eyes and ears. I don't understand how this man could have ever been elected.
  24. I just listened to this after god knows how many years and it still sounds as great to me now as it did in 1985. I did not know that Kurt Cobain loved this album, but listening to it now that makes perfect sense to me. The singing does take some getting used to, but once you get used to it, you can't imagine these songs any other way. I think I got used to it the first time I heard it! Up on the Sun is such a great, great song.
