  1. This band has been creeping into my consciousness over the past few weeks via satellite radio. I would hear something intriguing that made me look at the radio to see who it was, and I would see the name Chicano Batman. And I would laugh out loud that there was a band named Chicano Batman. And it kept happening, until I realized this was a band with a couple of songs that were really worth hearing. I thought to myself: Santana mixed with Sly and the Family Stone. Who would be making this music in 2017 and why do I think it's so good? I read some reviews: Santana mixed with Curtis Mayf
  2. Music, movies, Yankees baseball/Jets football, cooking/food (love to try international things as well), flower photography (mostly of someone else's flowers as I do not have the world's greenest thumb - although I try!), cats and cat shows...
  3. I've reached the end of the line point myself. You don't know how sad that makes me. I was a huge concert goer for over 30 years. But the prices are insane now. I started wincing when I had to decide if I wanted to spend $50 for a ticket, and that price is on the low end these days. I just can't afford it any more. It will have to be something truly special for me to fork out big bucks for a concert these days. NO ONE was a bigger music fan than I was over 30+ years. The live music industry has lost me.
  4. Having seen all of them, which one would you pick?
  5. *laughs* I had a similar idea. Turned it off at the end of the third quarter thinking it was over and went up to bed. (I get up stupidly early for work.). But thankfully I have a small TV in my bedroom that I turned on. I am not a Patriots fan, but I have to admit that was one incredible comeback. I am starting to think Tom Brady is not human.
  6. The first thought that springs to mind is Nazi Germany. The second thought that springs to mind is Japanese internment camps.
  7. I want to apologize to George Bush I and George Bush II for not paying attention to a single word either of them said during the twelve years total they were in office. Surely anything either of them ever uttered was more worthwhile than this. I am done with Donald Trump and extremely close to just not paying attention at all any more. Wake me for the next election.
  8. I've seen six of the Best Picture nominees, which is a record for me. I like all the ones I've seen, except for Arrival, which I didn't like at all. My vote goes to Lion. (The ones I have not seen are Hacksaw Ridge, Manchester By the Sea, and Moonlight.)
  9. I feel the same way. Unfortunately, that's probably what they're counting on.
  10. So, what awful decision did he make today that this 5 million illegal votes thing is supposed to distract us from? I am not going to be able to take four years of this.
  11. The fact that he is harping on and on about the crowd size just reinforces in my mind that the one main thought in his head at all times is "Mine has to be bigger!". This makes it very hard for me to take him seriously about anything. You'd think being elected President would have sublimated some of that. Ugh.
  12. I totally agree that he is acting like a baby. He has a narrow window of opportunity to connect with people who did not vote for him. He is not off to a good start.
  13. Shook you in a good or bad way? I can't decide if I should see it or not. The trailer, and reviews I've read, make the movie seem terribly disturbing. I'm not sure I'd be able to endure it. Although I felt the same way about 12 Years a Slave, and when I finally saw that after years of avoiding it, I was able to make it through without much difficulty.
  14. I would say "Donald, I so much want to believe that deep down inside you are a decent human being. Please don't let your country down."
  15. I'll be at work, so will miss the whole thing. I may watch the news when I get home. With my eyes half closed. This whole thing still has a somewhat surreal feeling for me, like it's too bizarre to really be happening.
  16. Cory Booker has rubbed me the wrong way since he was mayor of Newark. I voted against him in the primary for the special election that made him senator. There were more deserving candidates. Something about Cory Booker has never rung true for me.
  17. His response is being talked about on the news this morning. I immediately assumed he tweeted a response, but was somewhat surprised that he responded in a (very?) early morning interview with the NY Times. I'm not sure what that says about the NY Times.
  18. I saw 3 movies over the past few days: La La Land, Jackie, and Fences. I liked Jackie the best, although all were excellent in their own way.
  19. Santa Claus is Outtasite (Outta Mind) We Three Kings of Orient Are Trying to Break Your Heart
  20. The Pernice Brothers! I was a big fan at the time. Joe Pernice is great, but he never really evolved and his records are kind of samey. I know he put out an album awhile back under the name of The New Mendicants with one of the guys from Teenage Fanclub, but I don't think I've heard anything about him since. He got married and moved to Canada and seems to have faded from view,
  21. Car Seat Headrest - thanks to this forum! I also really like what I've heard of Nathaniel Rateliff, but haven't really taken the plunge to check him out properly yet.
  22. I can't echo this sentiment strongly enough. Many years ago, some musician friends of mine put on a tribute show to the Bobby Fuller Four. At the time, the only song of theirs I knew was I Fought the Law. Then I went to the show, and subsequently bought the Best of the Bobby Fuller Four and I was completely blown away. Here's another choice cut - the song is called Never to Be Forgotten: edit: sorry I don't know how to post the fancy video link.
  23. I had never heard of NRBQ until I heard Yo La Tengo's cover of What Can I Say. And then NRBQ went on to become one of my all time favorite bands. I don't really consider the current band calling themselves NRBQ to be NRBQ, although they're entertaining.
