  1. I listened to the version on YouTube and tried my best at transcribing: I was naïve My shoes were untied In heaven everything is just fine but the phones are dead and so is the light and so are you and honey so am I but the earth still turns for the unconcerned Days pass below like train windows I was a sapling tree The birds look like me And so I beg my nerves to kick me something new And time to time when I watch you sleep Well I wonder how much freedom we can dream And I'm sorry when you wake up to me I just got tired Shining steady like a spider webs and empty stage Now people say “Wha
  2. That's an interesting take. As the guy who Jeff questioned, I wasn't at all offended and didn't interpret the interaction the way that you did. The context was that some reviewer said that "Let's Go Rain" is a "throwaway" song. Jeff said something about how it's unfair that he's judged so critically at his job, and then he proceeded to ask me, a random guy, what I do for a living. I responded with some hesitation that I work in university administration. Jeff said that my work isn't judged the same that his is (that's true, of course), and that there's no Bob Dylan of University Administration
  3. Fixed! Thank you both. And I agree that “New Wave Theatre” was a highlight. Pretty intense lyrics. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the new ones— it’s tough for me to imagine them as Wilco songs. Anyway, had a nice time yesterday and even had Jeff ask me about my profession from the stage (I was so surprised he was talking to me that I asked “who, me?” three times before answering).

  8. Yep— it’s me! I will, of course, butcher this, but some bits from banter corner: Jeff remarked that when he’s playing a song that he’s played a thousand times sometimes his mind wanders. At a Wilco show, he’ll think about how among the thousands of fans he’d probably only be friends with roughly 2% of them. Applying that to the tiny Largo crowd, Jeff figured that he would only like 1 or 2 of us in attendance. After asking for a request from the audience, Jeff said that every Wilco fan has a different favorite song because he’s never written a hit. He made some really lovely comments ab
  9. Nice sitting with you last night! I'm currently flying home and feeling great about my brief visit to LA. Night 2 at Largo was about as good of a show as I could have hoped for. Musical highlights for me included Born Alone, which is a song that I much prefer in its solo form, and BD's 49th Beard (Susie's request). Either Way was a pleasant surprise and I certainly didn't expect to hear Blasting Fonda (the only audience request that Jeff honored). Sarah Silverman as a surprise opener felt like a uniquely LA experience. My girlfriend was particularly thrilled as she had spent some time in l
  10. I had a great first visit to Largo last night, lumpy, tiny seats and all. There really is a magic to that space. As often is the case, I don’t have much to add to Paul’s very thorough recap. (Thanks for it, by the way! Hope to run into you this evening.) I will add a few stray observations: Jeff made a very earnest comment about why he enjoys playing solo, which was something about how it requires that he look people in the eye and present them with a song in its simplest form. It was an endearing comment which I’m not remembering exactly. I think that this was my first time seeing Jef
  11. I know this isn't the place for this sorta question, but I'm going to ask anyway! If any LA natives/frequent travelers have a recommendation on where might be nice place to stay for a few days, that wouldn't be terribly inconvenient for a drive to Largo, I'm all ears! Even just a neighborhood with some nice restaurants/shops would be a great place to start. Also, curious if those who went to the last JT run there (2013?) can comment on how early that GA line begins to form... From what I've read on Largo's site, their method of assigning GA seats seems pretty well organized, but I'm not sur

  13. Jeff opened one of YLT's Hanukkah shows at Maxwell's (12/03/2010). Pretty sure YLT opened for Wilco the year before for their Coney Island show, but my memory isn't very good (and I wasn't there).
  14. Jeff will be a guest on Prairie Home Companion on 12/16 in NYC. He has the holiday show on 12/15, and it appears that YLT have their Hanukkah residency at Bowery Ballroom that same week. Good chance that he opens one of those shows, too.
  15. If it's any cheaper for you, I'd be happy to proxy. You can have it shipped to me, and I'll send it to you. I know some people get great FedEx/UPS discounts. FWIW, shipping was ~$11 or so for me. Might not save very much, but I'd be happy to help.
  16. Mostly very excited for these...A little bummed, though, that the $80 LP set doesn't include even a digital copy of the Live at The Troubadour set...
  17. Pat is Joe's guest on the newest episode of The Working Songwriter, which was recorded at Newport Folk Fest. Check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/twspodcast/pat-sansone or it can be found wherever you typically download podcasts on your phone. Joe writes: The creative force behind The Autumn Defense and a longtime member of Wilco discusses growing up in a musical household, playing punk bars in the American south, and locking himself in the studio to get a song finished.
  18. Had a great weekend in Portland, which started with the American Acoustic show at the State Theatre and ended last night with Wilco. No real setlist curveballs, but that didn't take away from what was an enjoyable set. I can't think of many banter additions, aside from Jeff mentioning that John is living in Maine. He said something along the lines of: "We love it here so much that we installed an ambassador." As he seems to be doing nightly, Jeff touched upon the political climate, which was bookended with comments to the effect of: "grow your hair long until Trump is impeached so that we
  19. A brewery out of Burlington, VT, called Foam Brewers is producing some top-notch hoppy beers. In an area that's basically producing some of, if not THE best beer in the country, it's impressive that a newcomer like Foam has gained traction so quickly. I appreciate their beer names too, which include: Pavement, Built to Spill, Son Volt, Joy Division, etc. Maybe one day they'll make a Wilco! Full list of beers available here: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45496/
  20. Come up to Portland. It'll be a better show anyway.
  21. New album from The National, Sleep Well Beast, out on Sept. 9. I'm really enjoying the first song that they've released, 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O6duDDkhis
