Happy National Beer Day to you all! Not a difficult holiday to celebrate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Beer_Day_(United_States)

in for 2 in boston! i wasn't crazy about the first mudcrutch album, but a chance to see petty (and mike, and benmont) in such a small venue will be a real treat.

I wasn't crazy about most of their beers. I thought that their Rye IPA was good, but Barista (coffee porter) was definitely the standout IMHO. They're not the star of VT craft beer, but they're certainly the not worst player in the game. FWIW, I really like their aesthetic.

I had an awesome weekend up in VT. We drove from Boston to Hill Farmstead (Greensboro, VT), and then over to Burlington. We were able to visit Burlington Beer Company and Fiddlehead, too. Had plenty to drink around Burlington, and am back home now rearranging the refrigerator to accommodate all of these cans and growlers! We got a few cases of bottles, but I'm most excited for E., which is Edward (pale ale) fermented with brettanomyces, dry hopped with galaxy, and aged on stainless for four months.

Hope I didn't come off as curt in my previous response! Craft beer is big business in New England and in VT especially. Alchemist quit selling directly due to the insane traffic at their old brewery. There's a website (headyspotter.com) dedicated to tracking down cans, and stores that get some sell out quickly. Their new brewery, due to open this summer will sell cases to consumers.

VT is a craft beer destination. People fly in regularly. My assumption here is that the Alchemist was accommodating not because Hixter flew in, but because he was getting beer for a vet returning from Afghanistan... Which is awesome.

I was under the impression there were no can sales at the brewery....

Hey LouieB, I'm heading to Chicago for the JT solo shows at the Vic, and just wanted to say that I've found your post from 2008 to be VERY helpful. We are still trying to figure out the best neighborhood for us to find a hotel in, as we want to do touristy stuff but also be able to get to/ from the venue with ease. Your post has given us a great starting point! Many thanks!

I believe that M&S spent some time at Aaron Dessner's studio when writing songs for their last album. I've not been a fan of M&S, so I don't know anything about that album, but Aaron has produced some great albums, including Sharon Van Etten's Tramp, and Local Native's Hummingbird.

Some more information about the Grateful Dead tribute album curated by The National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner: http://www.dayofthedeadmusic.com The album will include a cover of St. Stephen (live) from Wilco ft. Bob Weir.

Johnny D's in Somerville MA closing-a Wilco memory
knotgreen replied to worldrecordplayer's topic in Just A Fan
A cool story from Brian. I've heard him mention A.M. before but didn't realize he was such an UT fan. Davis Square won't be the same without Johnny D's! (Though, however infrequent, the Somerville Theatre gets some good shows) -

They did a benefit in 2012 at Mass MoCa, though it was indoors, not on Joe's field.

I've done ~60 beer trades through the mail. My recommendation is to create a FedEx account and print your own label. No questions at drop off, and you get a discount. FedEx is not okay with the shipment of beer and will either "destroy" the box or send it back to the shipper should they figure out what's in the package. I often put a little noisemaker in the box, like a box of tic tacs, that distracts from the sloshing noises. I double box usually, too. Shipping a case of 750ml bottles is certainly easier if you have a styrofoam shipper. Those can be purchased from Uhaul, or even some wine s

I saw him open for Counting Crows in 2002 in NYC. He was very good, but I've not kept up with him. When I saw him he was supporting The Fine Art of Self Destruction, which is the only one of his albums that I return to. That album was produced by Ryan Adams, who is a very vocal Malin fan. Funnily enough, I was browsing through Jesse Malin's Instagram feed the other day, and noticed that he made a post about sharing the bill with Tweedy. Ryan Adams made a pretty snarky comment:

Vic Tweedy benefit shows announced for May 13 and 14
knotgreen replied to Magnetized's topic in Just A Fan
I'm contemplating traveling for these shows. Any hotel advice for an out of towner? Would like to do some touristy stuff, but being able to get to the venue with ease is important. Any advice is appreciated! -
Magnetized > Spiders was actually the highlight for me. Maybe it's because the material is still new, but the songs from Star Wars feel pretty unique to the album. Hearing Spiders after Magnetized helped break down that barrier between new/old; Spiders felt like something that could've been on SW. Maybe I'm just making something out of nothing, but I thoroughly enjoyed this iteration of Spiders and appreciated its placement in the set. I was, like most, hoping for more variety. I have 0 complaints though. The band was all business. There was no talking and no breaks between songs. I'm tha

Wilco — 1/29/16, Boston, MA (Orpheum Theatre) [Night 1 of 2]
knotgreen replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
I had an awesome time last night. My vantage point from 6th row center aisle meant that I had probably the best view of Glenn that I've ever had. And what a treat that was -- I was mesmerized by his playing, especially on the new songs. Star Wars was, without question, the highlight for me. I love the record, but those songs really come alive in a live setting. I was noticing things about them that I've missed in my repeated listening of the album. Needless to say, I will not be disappointed if/when the band starts the show tonight with the album in full. Only slight bummer was the omissi -
