Wilco - 7/8/12 Geneva, IL (Fifth Third Bank Ballpark)
Turnips replied to Jimmy Coulas's topic in After The Show
listening to the recording, I notice that this version has morphed into more of an acoustic/electric hybrid from what they were doing with it on the "evening with" shows last year, which was all acoustic and much softer. Lots more umph with this one, I dig it. -
Slave Ambient has been my fav record for a while now, and saw them play it brilliantly a few weeks ago at Sasquatch. You're right they would definitely compliment Wilco perfectly

I find a LOT of the songs on WTA have great elements to them, but seem hastily or carelessly finished
-
I listened to WTA in the car yesterday for the first time in a while, and man it's just not that good. Especially now being able to hold it up against Whole Love, wow such a difference in how the songs were fleshed out. Glad they got back to form!

Wilco - 25/6/2012 Red Butte Garden - Salt Lake City

he does get raked, but most people are sticking up for Wilco's use of "extended versions" and "jamming", neither of which they ever do! It's like a clusterfuck of misinformation -

even the extended solos are rare though, I feel like they almost always stay true to their songs in terms of length. that's an amazing setlist by the way, right up my alley. Still waiting to hear Far Far Away live, sigh -

this is fantastic, one million thanks! anyone want to suggest a couple of "must-downloads"? Nice to see 1/24/2012, grabbing that now
-
so saddened by this, he was as purely awesome a musician as they come... was happy to be present for his show at solid sound last year - i guess that would be one of his final performances yeah?
-
it's a solid EP too!
-
gotcha, fair point

OK but how does listening to a song and forming an opinion about it matter whether it's before or after a release date? It's true that first impressions are "incomplete" by nature but if I had to do multiple listens of every album I didn't like after one go, I'd be backlogged until I was dead.
-
not sure what you're on about here - the album is/was released by the band, nobody is talking about an illegal rip or anything tried listening again this weekend. There's some great instrumentation and a lot going on, I'm hoping it's a grower from that perspective. But a ton of the songs just sound really lame to me...

an American Idol montage can't be far away

the 2nd SNL track is nice but really corny, like top 40 radio style. Nothing wrong with a good pop song but this just wont get repeat plays from me. Too bad cause I love dude's voice. Guess I'll stick to my Broken Bells records http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS8gxsHQwnU

this album is sounding really flat and uninspired too me on first listen...
