So the Red Sox went with an "ace-less" starting five this season. The pitchers themselves had some fun with that term in the spring, as they said that whichever pitcher was pitching that day was the ace. Let's see how they have done so far: Clay Buchholz - 7-7, 3.26, on 60-Day DL Rick Porcello - 5-11, 5.81, on 15-Day DL (received a 4-year, $82 million extension in the spring) Wade Miley - 10-9, 4.41, currently in rotation Joe Kelly - 6-6, 5.37, currently in rotation Justin Masterson - 4-2, 5.61, released So the rotation-without-an-ace has been a notable failure. But is it more of a failure

I'll buy the book! Even if I have already read it for free here. Kinda like Star Wars - downloaded it for free and listened to it, and then I'll buy the CD later. Can't wait for Paul's book.

That seating procedure is a solid attempt at replacing the vagaries of general admission seating with a number system that sets up a secondary market. Ah, capitalism!

I agree - there are moments of pure magic in a SV show. I saw them on the tours for each of the first two albums, and there were 3-4 moments in each show that were excellent. It was just the other 90 minutes that were dull. If someone handed me a ticket to a SV show today, I'd go to hear those 3-4 moments of pure magic. I just wouldn't pay for it. But I can see how others may really like it, because he is faithful to the original versions. And Trace is a really solid record.

And Son Volt might rock, but they are still dull as all get out to see live.

You are halfway there - 15 of 30. That is pretty cool. I have been to 9 ball parks: Braves Reds Red Sox Yankees Mets Phillies Orioles Rangers Brewers Interestingly, only 2 (2!) of those parks are still in use - Fenway and Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Shea, Riverfront, the old Yankee Stadium, Veterans, County, Fulton County, Arlington Stadium - all gone. Tells me how many ball games I have been to in the past 15 years or so. Not many.

My neighbor played in a band that played a gig with Goober & The Peas when Jack White was their drummer. If not for that, I would have never heard of the band.

One of my daughters is now hooked on baseball. She watches any chance she gets. And she learned what "Designated for Assignment" means today when Justin Masterson got DFA'd after the game she watched today....

I have toyed with this idea. One of my cousins completed it a few years back. Halfway is an accomplishment!
