Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is unlistenable to me. Though I do love every one of those songs as performed live. -
Interesting to me that not everyone here on a Wilco fan forum is all about the Replacements. They were definitely one of my big time faves during their existence (I even like Don't Tell A Sole), I don't listen all that frequently now but when I do my ears hear a direct line from the Replacements to Wilco. As if they share a music DNA.

I was 17 and graduating from high school in '75. And I wasn't in the 95%. Then or now. And anytime in between.

The Jerry/Merle Keystone box that was put out by Fantasy Records (or its successor) earlier this year or last year is one of my favorites. Highly recommended. Always loved that band, saw them a few times in '74 - '75 period. Too bad they're not HDCD releases, but still very very good.

Speaking of Jerry shows, a buddy strongly recommended I get this Pure Jerry bundle before they're gone. Which I did, have not arrived yet. http://jerrygarcia.shop.musictoday.com/Product.aspx?cp=640_59388&pc=JY62COMBO

Snowy night in Boston, stayed in and watched my new purchase of Stop Making Sense. Hadn't seen this in a very long time. Still incredible in every way.

Perfectly said. Kudos.

Live versions differing from album versions
worldrecordplayer replied to Atticus's topic in Just A Fan
I prefer the live versions of every song on YHF. I can't listen to that album anymore, but I love the songs live. -
Yes. I didn't want it to end. Thanks for the Beatles debate here, motivated me to play some. Went with Meet the Beatles (mono versions) from the Capitol Albums Vol. 1 set.

I know it's not my question and I don't get to modify it, but I must. Favorite band currently in existence? Yes, with Phish and the Allmans close behind or just about even. Favorite band ever? Definitely in the top 10 on a list populated by the Dead (definite number 1), Allmans, Hot Tuna, REM, Talking Heads, Clash, Clapton, Beatles, Replacements, Pretenders (that's more than 10 right there).

Same here, although the majority of my shows were likely either pre- or post- Brent, as I was off the bus from '81-September '87.
-
Agree, I consider that one of their golden eras, but would extend that through '91. The 5 Boston Garden shows I saw in September '91 were outstanding. They never reached that peak again, at least not in any post-'91 show I caught. With all this discussion about Brent, it took me a long long time to get used to his playing, and his singing. I grew up with the Keith and Donna era, was a big difference having Brent 's vocals. But no doubt that Jerry loved Brent in the band.

Picked up the 4/18/70 Record Store Day vinyl release today. 20% off sale at Newbury Comics. Glad I didn't battle my way out in Black Friday to get this. Looking forward to spinning this in a late night session tonight.

So 13 year old Spencer published about his own bar mitzvah 4 years ago. I hope everyone will be able to take a deep breath now, and get this back on topic. I've never been, I hope to make it once, but in the meantime I love listening to the recordings of these shows.

What a coincidence, I'm also in the middle of that project!

The first SS was announced at the Orpheum show in March, so it's not too late theoretically. But the report of local hoteliers being told no event in '14 has an air of credibility. Bums me out! Sign me up for another benefit show at MassMoca.
