Agree, I consider that one of their golden eras, but would extend that through '91. The 5 Boston Garden shows I saw in September '91 were outstanding. They never reached that peak again, at least not in any post-'91 show I caught. With all this discussion about Brent, it took me a long long time to get used to his playing, and his singing. I grew up with the Keith and Donna era, was a big difference having Brent 's vocals. But no doubt that Jerry loved Brent in the band.

Picked up the 4/18/70 Record Store Day vinyl release today. 20% off sale at Newbury Comics. Glad I didn't battle my way out in Black Friday to get this. Looking forward to spinning this in a late night session tonight.

So 13 year old Spencer published about his own bar mitzvah 4 years ago. I hope everyone will be able to take a deep breath now, and get this back on topic. I've never been, I hope to make it once, but in the meantime I love listening to the recordings of these shows.

What a coincidence, I'm also in the middle of that project!

The first SS was announced at the Orpheum show in March, so it's not too late theoretically. But the report of local hoteliers being told no event in '14 has an air of credibility. Bums me out! Sign me up for another benefit show at MassMoca.

Back to '73 Dead, haven't listened to this compilation yet but I imagine it's great. http://www.jambase.com/Articles/120055/Stormy-Mondays-Grateful-Dead-1973-Retrospective-Pt.-1

Re: Road Trips: Vol 2, Number 1: Madison Square Garden: September 1990. Pissed me off that they broke up this run and put out this mish mash of cuts. 9-20-90 one of my all time faves, was sitting 13th row center, deserves its own complete release. Especially that second set.

Listening to the Mile High in '73 compilation, the audio is excellent. Somehow missed this Road Trips release. More proof why '73 is my favorite year. http://www.dead.net/road-trips/road-trips-vol-4-no-3

40 years ago today in Grateful Dead history, a real keeper, the second night of a 2 night run in Denver. Both nights are fantastic. Played the second set of 11-21 on the GD channel "Today in GD History" show. Catch the 7:00 p.m. replay if you missed it this morning. November '73 was a memorable month in GD music. The Winterland '73 box is "must have." These 2 nights in Denver are off the hook. The 11-21 show was released as a Road Trips. Interesting, Lemieux said this morning that the Road Trips series did not sell. A couple of years ago Hidden Track released a compilation of these 2 n

That link is no longer working. Says "video is private." -
Bums me out just thinking about that. Want to scream. What a loss. Trey has certainly been on his game, Phish has been absolutely kicking ass night after night for several years now.

There was an epic SOTM during one of the Boston Garden runs, don't remember off the top whether '93 or '94. Maybe '91.

Interesting that you're not happy with the audio quality. I always love a matrix, prefer to a sterile soundboard. I don't have this release (didn't act quick enough ) , but the audio quality of the official box releases has been phenomenal to my ears. The May, '77 box, SSDD, Winterland boxes, etc.

Any folks going to the Phil shows in NYC this week are probably aware of this already, posted by Phil on his FB page: Apparently it was bad and Phil had to post the following so be careful out there! http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/phil-lesh-warns-fans-of-aggressive-nypd-tactics-outside-best-buy-theater/ Phil Lesh Warns Fans Of Aggressive NYPD Tactics Outside Best Buy Theater With several shows remaining at his current Best Buy Theater run, Phil Lesh has sent out an advisory for all fans attending the shows over the next few nights. Apparently, the NYPD has been cracking down hard o

Very hard core, year in and year out. A very broad array of musical styles. Heck, if I lived within striking distance of Brooklyn Bowl, my numbers would at least double. -

I keep a log. 24 last year, 21 so far this year. For Festivals, I count each festival day as 1. i.e,. Solid Sound, I count as 3. For Jazzfest, I count a day at the Fairgrounds as 1, and then any late night shows as another. Not bad for middle age, though weeknight shows are getting harder and harder. Someone mentioned living in NYC and the availability of music, my (older than me) buddy racked up over 160 shows last year. -
Huh? I have the 2 cd version, and I don't have that.

Whoa, Reflektor is sounding fantastic. Almost through my first listen, definitely has my attention. Can't say I've listened to a tremendous amount of 2013 releases, but this one shoots to the top of my chart.

Which reminds me, when I moved to Boston in 1979, one of my new friends landed here from Providence, and introduced us to this band, The Mundanes. We saw them many times in such famous clubs as The Rat, The Inn Square Men's Bar, and others. Speaking for myself, the lead singer Marsha attracted my boyhood fancy. I'm sure many others as well. The keyboard player, John, went on to fame and fortune in TMBG. Seeing The Mundanes many times, it was never obvious to us that he would be the one to make it. But good for him. I've never seen TMBG in all these years.

Not a "heard", but YHF mentioned by Scents & Subtle Sounds as a choice for Phish to cover at their Halloween show. http://www.scentsandsubtlesounds.com/2013/10/17/10-albums-phish-should-cover-for-halloween/
