  1. I'm not very technically minded but Ira played an acoustic guitar and once in a while he'd stomp on a pedal and crank it up. James played his electric bass but it was very quiet. And Georgia had a snare dum (that she mostly played with brushes), one cymbal, and a floor tom. The questions were funny. Most people just shouted them out but some people put up their hands and were called on by Ira. At one point he asked if anyone in the back had questions because the people up front were dominating the conversation. People were very quiet in between songs so it was easy for them to hear thing
  2. I saw the Freewheeling show in Boston last night and thought it was great. I have seen them a bunch of times over the years but it was fun to see them in such a relaxed and intimate environment. I don't have a set list but it seemed like it was about half songs they had planned and the other half was requests. They did a Roky Erickson song, a Volcano Suns song, two Sun Ra covers (including Nuclear War), and even one of James' songs from Dump. I definitely recommend seeing this tour if you are a fan.
  3. Channel 7 news (out of Boston) reported last night that there are four teams who have offered Lowell a four year contract: the Angels, Braves, Cardinals, and Yankees.
  4. Going to see their Freewheeling show tonight and really looking forward to it.
  5. I'm not saying it is or isn't the 100 Greatest Indie-Rock albums but it's an awful lot of good music. I have 62 of the 100.
  6. Just finished that the other night. I love Russo and liked the book.
  7. "Pedroia took off after that, raising his batting average to .317 for the season, 10th highest in the American League and best all-time for a rookie second baseman." I heard this during the playoffs but didn't believe it.
  8. But at least they give a good interview: Sigur Ros on NPR
  9. Nice! "Making Pedroia's postseason heroics even more impressive is the fact he recently confided that he was playing with a cracked hamate bone in his left hand, an injury that was diagnosed on Sept. 10."
  10. Maybe try tomorrow. US releases are on Tuesdays and my recollection is that European releases are on Mondays. The email from Wilco HQ also says it will be available "there" on the 12th.
  11. I love his cover of Neil Young's Helpless.
  12. Absolutely. That was the best 60 seconds of the show.
  13. While shuffling on my ipod this morning, the Pixies' verison of Winterlong came up. That's a pretty good cover.
  14. An excellent list. His collaborations with David Byrne (My Life in the Bush of Ghosts) and John Cale (Wrong Way Up) are also good, but in very different ways.
  15. I was listening to this the other day for the first time in a while. It's still pretty damn good.
  16. Shula told ESPN's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" on Thursday that if the Patriots finish with a perfect record to match that of his 1972 Dolphins, then there "shouldn't be any attachment to it," referring to a possible asterisk next to New England's name in the record books. "If they run the table, and they win all the games, then they are doing it within the rules of the National Football League," Shula said. "And there shouldn't be any asterisk to it. That would be the accomplishment that they made. It would be the best in all of sports." Shula also said if New England can finish the se
  17. I also like their cover of Beautiful (by Christina Aguilera).
  18. Cat Power's I Found a Reason (Velvet Underground) may be my favorite cover ever.
  19. Francoeur and Rowand were tied in the voting ...
  20. I'm guessing the fact that he only played about 100 games hurt him.
  21. Nice to see that Jeter didn't get another Gold Glove.
