  1. not the Richard Lloyd thread I was expecting.
  2. I'll be wishy-washy (or a Gemini) and say that I like them both a lot. I was playing Wrong Way Up a couple of days ago but I also listened to the Blue Mask the other day. Cale's cover of Hallelujah might be my favorite version of that song and Berlin is my favorite depressing album.
  3. I love their version of Motel Blues.
  4. Well I'd put 69 Love Songs among my top 10 albums ever and there are only a handful of songs on it that I don't like. I'd probably put Charm, Holiday, and i in the next tier. For me, this new one might fall in the next grouping. I actually like Shirley Simms voice a lot, including the stuff on 69LS. I saw her and Claudia play a show together a couple of years ago. They played mostly countryish songs and it was pretty fun.
  5. I'm actually liking it more than I thought I would.
  6. As cryptique said above, there are the people who are looking for attention and are goofing on it. But then there are the people who seem to really think they are good singers, and who have patiently waited for what must be a really long time to audition, and they can't carry a tune at all. I wish they would profile one of those people, instead of say the star wars chick or the angry one.
  7. I'm watching right now. It is strange to me how some of the participants think they can sing well.
  8. I've got that one signed by the band.
  9. Oh - I wasn't calling you out or anything (and that last one was four months old). It just seemed like there was a lot of good discussion over there.
  10. And here's a long thread about it: 5 album streaks
  11. Conan's country/western song the other night was pretty good and pretty funny. John Stewart is struggling too. I have not seen every episode this week and there have been some decent moments but there has also been some floundering.
  12. I used to listen to their Happy Trails album all the time but I haven't played it in probably ten years.
  13. Assuming the rule that they could vote for 10 players was in effect, I still have a hard time believing that 11 people didn't think Babe Ruth was among the top 10 players in 1936. It is interesting to see who did and didn't get votes though. HOF Vote for 1936 But you are right, Cy Young didn't have much support at all. (But in the writers' defense, it's not as though he ever won the Cy Young award.)
  14. Back to the Hall of Fame, it has always struck me as odd that no one has been voted in unanimously. 11 people thought Babe Ruth was not worthy. Babe Freakin' Ruth! Nine people thought that Hank Aaron didn't deserve to be in. 23 people didn't vote for Willy Mays. 20 people didn't vote for Ted Williams. It took Joe Dimaggio three tries to get in.
  15. Maybe. But you would still have people (like ESPN) making a compelling case: "During those 12 years, Rice was the most dominant player in the American League. Maybe not the best player -- I'd give that nod to George Brett. But check out Rice from 1975 to '86. He ranked first in the AL in games (1,766), first in at-bats (7,060), first in runs (1,098), first in hits (2,145), first in home runs (350), first in runs batted in (1,276), first in slugging percentage (.520), first in total bases (3,670), first in extra-base hits (752), first in go-ahead RBIs (325), first in multihit games (640), fo
  16. I remember at the time that soundboard tapes circulated pretty widely for those 10/9 and 10/10 shows. While I had older soundboards, it was pretty ear-opening to hear shows from that era through the soundboard.
  17. It all depends on what your definition of "is" is.
  18. I too only discovered Ghosts recently and I love it. I'm looking forward to April 1 ...
  19. Sub Pop released this statement: Marty Crandall and his ex-girlfriend Elyse Sewell were both arrested over the weekend following an argument at a Sacramento hotel which resulted in hotel staff calling the police. They were both taken into police custody and released over the weekend. There will be no further comment at this time and we would appreciate their privacy being respected.
  20. Yup - saw the show in Boston and it was fantastic.
