  1. I watched it last night and loved it (but I also love Luna). It was interesting to see behind the scenes of a band with a moderate level of success who are probably not going to get any bigger. I think a lot of bands that I like are in that same position and have made (or will make) that decision about how long to carry on as a band. I have not watched all of the extras but I definitely recommend the movie.
  2. Hall of Fame analyst Gammons in hospital ESPN broadcaster undergoing surgery for brain aneurysm The Associated Press Updated: 6:57 p.m. ET June 27, 2006 BOSTON - ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons was stricken with a brain aneurysm Tuesday morning and underwent surgery at a local hospital. 4. I saw the show - and the Friday night show at the Paradise Lounge. They were both excellent. The set lists were similar - and the new songs sound great. It was great to see them again ...
  5. He may not be part of the Paste crowd, but I am surprised that Stephin Merritt didn't make the list. 69 Love Songs alone should get him on that list ...
  6. My friends and I got there ridiculously early so we went in when the doors opened and ended up standing (almost) front and center. Martha Wainwright was entertaining. She said "my brother Rufus wanted to be here but he couldn't make it" which seemed both funny and gratuitous. Neko was great. I had never seen her before and I agree with Sir Stewart's comment about her voice. You hear it on the albums and it is impressive, but to be ten feet away from her as she sang was a treat. I got chills when she sang Deep Red Bells. The rapport between the band members (particularly between Neko a
  7. Me too! I'll just look for, um, David Ortiz ...
  8. Just started this. It is pretty compelling - and a little creepy. I will never look at Mormons quite the same way again.
  9. I I will be king And you You will be queen Though nothing will Drive them away We can beat them Just for one day We can be Heroes Just for one day And you You can be mean And I I'll drink all the time 'Cause we're lovers And that is a fact Yes we're lovers And that is that Though nothing Will keep us together We could steal time Just for one day We can be Heroes For ever and ever What d'you say I I wish you could swim Like the dolphins Like dolphins can swim Though nothing Will keep us together We can beat them For ever and ever Oh we can be Heroes Just for one day I I will be king And
  10. The other thing that I read last night was a long story in the New York Times magazine (written by Barry Bearak) about last December's tsunami. It is an account of six people who survived, and it is absolutely riveting. I don't know if it is on-line, but it is worth tracking down.
  11. If it is Kay Hanley you are asking about, here is what wikipedia says about her: Kay Hanley (born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on September 11, 1968) is an alternative rock musician. She is best known as the vocalist for the band Letters To Cleo. Hanley was a member of Letters To Cleo from 1990 to 2000 (the length of the band's existence). She was not only the lead vocalist for the group, but also came up with the band's name (she had a pen pal named Cleo when she was younger). In 1997, she started to work on other projects than the band, starting with a role in the Boston Rock Opera's per
  12. Lucy Atkinson from Kinski. These are her boots ...
  13. That may be my favorite novel ever. I am almost afraid to re-read it in case it is not as good as I remember it being (if that makes any sense).
  14. She used to have a column in the Boston Phoenix. Sadly, she died of cancer a year or so ago.
  15. This is one of those songs that I have heard a million times, to the point where I don't even think about the lyrics. But after seeing the documentary last week I checked them out again. And these are some pretty damn fine lyrics. Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to. Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you. Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand, Vanished from my hand, Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping. My weariness amazes me, I'm
