I'm a big fan of both Cale and Paris 1919. Stan Demeski (drummer for the Feelies and Luna (who opened for the Velvet Underground reunion tour)) wrote this on his facebook page: "Happy Birthday to the only VU member who wouldn't talk to the opening band." He then added "Cale gave me a hard time about signing my un-peeled banana cover too. Last night of the tour I asked him, he said no then asked who I was. He relented a few minutes later."

I really like this one. I got the deluxe edition which has a disc of demos, and that is pretty cool too.

Of course, that was right before Randy mentioned that Don Was was in the Traveling Wilburys ...

Another vote for This American Life (which is the only one I never miss) but I also like Radiolab. -
I met Michael Stipe and Wayne Coyne last night!

That is an interesting issue. A friend of mine, who is a huge REM fan, ran into Peter Buck in a record store a couple of years ago and the conversation apparently went something like this: Friend: Hi, I'm a huge fan and your early albums were really really important to me. Buck: Thanks, that's nice to hear. Hopefully our more recent albums are important to you too. Friend: Um, well, uhh ... My friend says Buck was really nice and they talked for a while longer but he said that was kind of awkward. -
About six hours ago (3:00 AM) I got an email with the password for yesterday's pre-sale.

Truly horrible lyrics that somehow work...

I consider the Feelies one of my five favorite bands of all time but I won't disagree with you. I think the first one (Crazy Rhythms) had some decent lyrics but after that they became very mundane. As you say, not bad just forgettable. -

I emailed wordless music who is running the event and they emailed back saying "check the Elephant 6 Town Hall message board." I went there and found a bunch of messages from people asking what the password is ...

Maybe I'm missing it but does anyone know where to get the password for the Cambridge pre-sale that starts tomorrow? The box office website says that a password is needed but I can't find any info on where to get one ...

Another good one from the rejuvenated Buffalo Tom.

RIP Duke Snider As a kid I always had this fascination with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Snider was one of the guys who I admired.

The Violent Femmes talk in another thread got me thinking about this one.

Nice choice.

An old episode called "Music Lessons." It includes David Sedaris singing the Oscar Mayer wiener song in the voice of Billie Holiday. I was laughing so hard on the subway that I had to turn it off because people were staring at me.

Bands you wish that you had seen, but missed the chance
Oil Can Boyd replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
It was a one-time event (and I know I told the story here before) but I still regret it. A few years ago Bill Janovitz (from Buffalo Tom) was doing a weekly residency at a very small club (75 people max) in Cambridge. For one of the nights Pearl Jam was in town and there was a rumor that Eddie Vedder and Theo Epstein (Red Sox GM) were going to come over to the club. I went with a friend and we waited until about 12:30 when we figured they were not going to show up. We went across the street to the parking lot and talked for a while and then went home. I got an email in the morning saying -

I remember seeing an ad in a Boston paper for a show "featuring members of the Pixies and Throwing Muses." As much as I liked both bands I didn't go. It turned out to be one of the few (maybe the only?) Breeders' show where Tanya Donelly played live. -
