  1. You'll be the guy with the camera?
  2. I had no idea what he meant nor did I know what he was talking about. But I do now on both counts. And, back on topic, even though I am not going to bid on her car I am looking forward to seeing Neko in Boston in a few weeks.
  3. Agreed. The whole event had a sort of pep rally feel to it which was a little weird, but I thought the speech was strong.
  4. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comment, but I think High Heat's comment was that maybe Jack Frost (the name Bob Dylan used when he produced Love and Theft, Modern Times, and other of his own albums) would produce Jakob Dylan's next album ...
  5. Neko Case Raffles Middle Cyclone Car for Charity (via Pitchfork)
  6. "I wouldn't blame our political rhetoric any more than I would blame heavy metal music for Columbine. And by the way, that is coming from someone who truly hates our political environment." -- Jon Stewart I thought his opening last night was pretty good.
  7. I've been listening to a lot of Huskers (and Grant and Bob solo) recently. As I mentioned in the NP thread, I got the new bio of Husker Du and read it over the holidays. I thought it was decent. Grant and Greg were interviewed extensively for it but Bob is writing his own book so he wouldn't be interviewed for this one. I appreciate that the author focused on the music and not the drugs and sex. The book is much more focused on the early days and pays pretty short shrift to the last couple of albums.
  8. I got the new bio of the Huskers over the holiday so I've been listening to them a lot. This remains my favorite.
  9. For me (all Boston area shows) Sufjan Stevens (Orpheum Theater) Wilco (Orpheum Theater) Feelies (Middle East) Dawes (Great Scott) Come (TTs) Magnetic Fields (Wilbur Theater)
  10. How is that? I just read MOJO's review of it which pretty much declares it the best thing ever.
  11. Watched this last night and loved it.
  12. Just started this and it's pretty great. (I also just learned that Paul Harding used to be the drummer in a Boston band called Cold Water Flat.)
  13. Maybe I saw you there ... (Of course, in my head you look like your profile pic and I didn't see anyone who looked like that in the store, so maybe we weren't there at the same time.)
  14. Nice choice. I think it would have to have to be a smaller side stage though. I most recently saw them on the big stage at the Newport Folk Festival and I thought a lot of what makes them great was lost in such a big place.
  15. I haven't been in college in a long time and I don't usually get that drunk when I see Wilco, but I love Pat's moves.
  16. Now I feel guilty for bringing him up in that thread. Maybe I'll give Trout Mask Replica one more try (or put on Safe As Milk).
  17. We'll probably never know the details, since the Yankees offer had a lot of details to hammer out, but this ESPN article suggests the gap was closer to $13 million.
  18. I mentioned this in the Now Reading thread a while back, but Patti Smith. I like some of her songs, and I liked her book, but I like the idea of her more than I actually like her.
  19. I am reluctant to start yet another similarly themed thread but this got me thinking about Highly Praised Albums That Don't Do a Thing for Me. For me, Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica might be at the top of the list. I had Safe As Milk, which I really like, and I remember reading about how amazing Trout Mask was, so I got it. Believe me, I tried to get into it but I'm just couldn't.
  20. Totally surprised me too. I thought this talk of a mysterious third team was just hype. Is it easier to change the title of a thread or start a new one? Seems like we should have a MLB 2010-2011 off-season thread ...
