I have been digging that one as well. I got a month or two ago but it's been in the stereo ever since. Can't get enough of it. NP: I like this one quite a bit too.

Whoa, did this leak? What's it like?

I haven't bought Turn to Red yet. I went through a two-year burnout phase after FACE: it was so good and everything else just paled in comparison.

Finally got my re-issue from Matador last week after almost a month or more...

The Takeovers are another Pollard-project that is steady enough to help me retain my faith in Uncle Bob. I really like Bad Football. Too bad there isn't a Takeovers record on the slate this year. There are 2 BS albums coming out this year plus a compilation of all the b-sides, singles and stuff from the past 2-3 years (Tug Of War At The Faithful Center). Dig the assumed cover art:

But Pollard also releases 6+ albums a year and has done so for the better part of a decade. We only have gotten 6 albums in 15+ years. Pollard has a higher batting average when it comes to releases.

I am enjoying his new one quite a bit. It's so much better than Off to Business. I can't wait until the new Boston Spaceship's new one to drop, The Planets are Blasted. I guess it's no real surprise that this is just one of six new albums (that we know about) by Pollard this year!

I dunno....the first track really does sound like Rhett to me. I agree with the meat and potatoes statement about their sound is just kind of bland to me - nothing to get excited about. Maybe they put some more excitement in their live action but the album sounds pretty flat to my ears and it seems to travel roads that have been traveled before. I guess if I want to listen to the Replacements, I'll listen to the Replacements.

In truth, no one really likes hippies. You know the one 2008 album I just don't get is the Gaslight Anthem album. The singer reminds me of the Old 97's to me. Please help me understand.

I saw him twice on this last tour and got to meet him. I'm glad I got to. I told my wife then that you never know when he would tour or anything again.
-
This is pretty good. So good even the wife was digging it a minute ago!

Interesting...

For me, I don't think it had much to do with me being a fair weathered fan as much as PJ made an uninteresting album. I seriously haven't played that album in 10 years or more. Their follow up was far more satisfying.

Gruden gone in Tampa.

The museum here in town has a large collection of his work. I am an art teacher at an elementary school and the museum curator tried to get me to write him a few years ago. Now, I wish I had. After spending time with his work, I took an art class at the museum, I have a greater appreciation for his work. I know he takes a lot of flack from the art world, but I really find his artwork to be mysterious. There always seems to be something else to it. I dunno, I'm just sad to see him go. What a curious figure in art.

I recently bought up all the Tommy Stinson I could get my hands on. Good stuff.

I lost interest in PJ after Binaural too (it was the last studio album I purchased). However, PJ is a band that the wife likes so I listen to them a lot more now. I hated No Code and still thing it's a pile o' crap. Yes, there are some good songs but overall, meh. I still like Vs and Vitalogy but Ten has not aged particularly well to my ears. I may pick up the reissue if I can find it cheap.

Hey, these guys sound like fleet foxes.

Albums that changed your life - Article on CNN.com

Here are mine Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream It was just really cool hearing that album at 14. It opened up a world of music to me. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea This album continues to blow me away. No album has ever affected me so much. When I first heard in college, I wasn't a fan. I picked this up finally in 2003 and have continued to listen since.
