Do your siblings have the same musical taste as you?
moxiebean replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I have a brother who is 4 years older than me. While I do have to give him credit for turning me on to Blue Oyster Cult back in 1977, our musical tastes pretty much split after that. It probably has a lot to do with our age difference and that we haven't spent much quality time together since the late 1970's. He went off to college in 1978 and discovered BOC, Genesis, and The Moody Blues; I went off to college in 1982 and discovered The Ramones, Clash, and American hardcore. I don't think that music plays much of a role in his life anymore - he's more into guns. The last birthday present I g -

Altho having up front seats for the Opera and standing the whole time would be a gutsy move.

If the person in front of you wants to stand and you want to sit, you should have the right to sit on that person's shoulders. Everybody wins!

What if the people in front of you are standing? It's not like you're blocking their ears. It's a rock concert. It's Wilco. Not the Turtle Island String Quartet.

Although I'm a bit annoyed by the over-exuberance, it's not like Americans are ever going to be able to celebrate the end of the war on terrorism.

I agree with this. I would love to hear a Loose Fur-type project w/ Nels, Jeff, and Glenn. Maybe that's not just wishful thinking?

Music in a foreign language? You listen to much?
moxiebean replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
My suggestion would be to start with Histoire du Melodie Nelson and one of the comps of his late 60's pop stuff (probably Comic Strip) - both are now available as domestic releases so they're pretty reasonable price-wise. -

Serge Gainsbourg - still sounds pervy despite (or maybe because of?) the language barrier. Great pop melodies, though. -

Most Beautiful Songs that Break Your Heart
moxiebean replied to sgtpepper64's topic in Someone Else's Song
There are a few songs that I tear up just thinking about, including: Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day Wilco - Handshake Drugs (live version w/ Nels can have me weeping over how beautiful music can be) The Tennessee Waltz (if it's a version done by one of those old country guys) The Battle Hymn of the Republic (especially the "in the beauty of the lilies" verse) -
IMHO any "songs about days of the week" mixtape should begin with Husker Du's New Day Rising.

Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting - Elton John Police on My Back - The Clash/Eddy Grant (chorus: I've been running Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.)

How about one about COOL covers?
moxiebean replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Agreed! I remember first hearing it during the closing credits for Heathers - I then went right out to Tower Records & bought Sly & the Family Stone: Anthology -
