Truly horrible lyrics that somehow work...

U2, for rhyming "Miami" with "my mammy" -

Antarctica is also a continent but the likelihood Antarctic sweatshops... (well, maybe if you're a penguin)

How Much is That Doggie in the Window? ~ Patti Page Who Let the Dogs Out? ~ Baha Men Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp Bomp Bomp) ~ Barry Mann

I only caught a little bit of the Grammys but... - Lady Gaga. The egg thing? big whoop-tee-doo. The song? Eh, it was alright. Madonna's "Vogue" but w/ better vocals. - The country gal with the song about the house and the dog buried in the back yard? Meh - of course she won. - Bruno Mars (that his name, right?) & the b&w soul revival thing? I appreciate the effort & the energy, but you don't have the pipes for it. Nice hair, though.

Ah. I must've seen when they cut into the regular programming w/ a special report. My memory's a little skewed about a lot of stuff that happened in college in 1985

What I wrote in my notebook that day (I was a college junior at the time and saw the event live on tv): "Today I watched seven people die over and over again." A horrible, sad day.

I totally agree with this. Except for the middle 3rd of Bossanova, it's all pretty stellar. I'll also second Nick Drake.

I want to say that Jeff's scream sounds like Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it doesn't.

You might want to browse thru this thread - a good bit of traditional gospel was mentioned but there's also some contemporary stuff that might fit the bill. My recommendation would be almost anything by Bruce Cockburn and T-Bone Burnett.

Very cool - Skylarking is on my short list of "perfect" albums. Would love to see a domestic CD release of this, altho I can't say I'm digging the new album cover.

Anyone know anything about stamp collecting?
moxiebean replied to PopTodd's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
You can buy a used copy from Stamps2Go for 25 cents - not a big payday but it's worth more than most of the other denominations from that series. Yes, I'm a reformed ex-philatelist. -
When I was 7 I went to our church's annual Sunday School Christmas party. Besides punch and cookies and the requisite Bible reading of the birth of Jesus, our Sunday School class also had a gift exchange. Everyone was supposed to bring a gift. I brought a gift, although for the life of me I can't recall what it was (probably a Hess truck model or something). Anyway, at some point all of the gifts were put in a pile on the floor and we sat around cross-legged in a circle. Beginning with the person next to me on my left we went around, clockwise, each kid selecting and opening a present from the

Merry Christmas to all from the Peachtree state (quite close to the beach) -

Yes, it's on the maxi-single cd for "Bittersweet" - it's worth picking up for a few dollars on ebay for that alone. Too bad their cover of "Galveston" wasn't also released as a b-side... I'll always prefer the mumbly smoke-and-kudzu REM of the 80's but, like A-man said, as along as others out there enjoy their new stuff, more power to 'em. As a last hurrah they should drag Bill Berry off his tractor & into the studio and do an album of Jimmy Webb covers. I'd buy that.

This. I just can't stand that whole late 80's-early 90's rap-funk/rock genre (Faith No More, RHCP) -
Anyone else remember the Bluebells? "Cath" was probably their best known single, but I also swoon for "I'm Falling" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNapx-HjCKI

"Zulus?" "No - I won."

I've always had a mental image of kidsmoke = a kid w/ a magnifiying glass frying insects (spiders included).
