  1. I didn't know David Bowie only had one leg.
  2. The only music forums I lurk on are Via Chicago & the Clash forum at clashcity.com - both places are equally passionate and informative, although the folks at Via Chicago tend to be more articulate than your average music discussion board (I think partly due to the English teachers and other professional folks who deal with words and stuff that post here).
  3. Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band (sadly, this song actually won a Grammy in 1976...)
  4. Don't know if this has been posted, but I noticed on The Heads of State site that they're doing a poster for Wilco 4/27 New Orleans...
  5. I'm still conflicted over recently hearing the Buzzcocks' "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" used in an AARP(!) commercial - it's a damn-near perfect pop song that I've loved and mostly had to myself for the past 25 years or so & I guess I feel kind of proprietary about it. Then again, maybe it'll get more people into the Buzzcocks.
  6. loudQUIETloud - Pixies The Unheard Music - X
  7. Halloween - Dream Syndicate (one of my favorite songs ever)
  8. Glenn: First we take Bloomington, then Berlin.
  9. some oldies: Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell Green, Green Grass of Home - Porter Wagoner (maybe too corny for some, but it still gets me) Tennesse Waltz - Eddy Arnold (also covered by a bunch of other people - the saddest song ever)
  10. In This House That I Call Home - X Burning House of Love - X
  11. Here's a link to the full story, via Stereogum: http://www.stereogum.com/archives/003589.html
  12. Sandinista (Clash) YHF (Wilco) Surfer Rosa (Pixies) Reckoning (REM) Zen Arcade (Husker du) London Calling (Clash) Skylarking (XTC) Stone Roses S/T More Fun in the New World (X) Get Happy (Elvis Costello)

  14. Saw him about 14 years ago in Philadelphia. I only knew about half of the songs in the set, but it didn't really matter - it was all good. Lots of energy and great stage banter. I remember he was wearing three or four wristwatches (one for each time zone?). That series he did on Showtime a couple of years back was pretty good, too.
  15. I had a Public Enemy cassette that got stolen out of my car in Philly sometime in the early 90's, and I have that Beastie Boys compilation that came out several years back. That's it.
  16. I know what you mean - I had (and still have) all these releases on vinyl. I've picked up a few of the rykodisc reissues over the years just so I could have the albums on cd. I guess I don't mind they tack some b-sides and unreleased stuff at the end, but I usually don't listen to the extra stuff more than once (there's a good reason why alot of that stuff was unreleased...). I like the albums just fine as they were originally released.
  17. 42 married, no kids, dog + 3 cats MFA in Painting from Penn, work as a curator for visual resources collection for an art college for past 10 years; work on my own art as time allows (a little every day). Grew up listening to 70's junk on the radio. Discovered punk rock, then 80's indie (REM, 'Mats, Husker du, Minutemen, X, etc.) in college. The Clash were, and are, my favorite band ever (sorry wilco). My old college roomate included some UT on a mixtape for me shortly after No Depression came out - I liked it (and the other UT stuff he sent me over the next few years), but never got around
