  1. Unfortunately, offset by the fact that they've been spending a lot of time with John Mayer recently...
  2. Yeah, that was uncomfortable. I kinda wish she had said, "Sure! Did you bring your gear? No? Do you remember your parts? No? Sorry..." Also, the Mike Love rant.
  3. They played "I Got You (At the End of the Century)" during the outro of MSNBC's Morning Joe on Monday, leading up to inauguration coverage. I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye.
  4. I pretzel logic reasoning I've heard by some (not here, mind you) is: "I need guns to protect me from the Govenrment when they come to take my guns."
  5. Yes! Strangely it's the only Waterboys album that I like (and I've given them all a listen) others: Steely Dan - Aja Pixies - Surfer Rosa Husker Du - Zen Arcade X - More Fun in the New World
  6. Stone Roses - S/T XTC - Skylarking Radiohead - Amnesiac Clash - Sandinista! - I know a lot of folks would pick London Calling (I would, too, if they'd left The Card Cheat off), but I love every drug-fuelled self-indulgent minute of S!, even the kiddie versions & weird dub stuff on side 6. I wouldn't change a note.
  7. Savannah only had it on cable. It took some hunting but I finally found it way up the dial on the Biography channel.
  8. It was fun today seeing video of the NIrvana/McCartney mash-up w/ Sir Paul rockin' a 4-string resonator wine box guitar.
  9. One of my job duties to to maintain our institution's digital graduate thesis collection. This involves uploading thesis pdfs, related visual/film material, and metadata to an online database. A few months ago as I was adding a recent Cinema Studies thesis to the collection I noticed a familiar name on the student's thesis committee, Karl Precoda. Mr. Precoda is currently a professor of Cinema Studies at Virginia Tech; years ago he played lead guitar in The Dream Syndicate.
  10. I was going to do early voting last Weds. but the wait was at least 1 1/2 hours. This morning I was at the poll at 9 am & was in & out in 10 min.
  11. I think Libya will be a much bigger problem for Hillary Clinton 3-4 years from now.
  12. 40 ft above sea level + approx.30 ft. (3rd floor office) = 70 ft.
  13. Even though we're now talking about ELO, you know they're the same band that recorded "Mr Blue Sky", posssibly the most non-mopey song ever?
  14. I agree. So would The Cure, The Jam, and T-Rex.
  15. I would include Wilco's "The Art of Almost" for the same reason. "Don't Fear the Reaper" = cowbell (thanks SNL...)
  16. No. Assuming we're all still around, Wilco's a shoo-in in 2020.
  17. Police -probably due more to radio-induced listening fatigue than anything else. The White Stripes - A one-trick pony. Loved the first two albums at the time; haven't listened to either in years (same for Flat Duo Jets) Most of the stuff I listened to as a teenager before discovering punk rock (Kansas, Skynyrd, Styx, etc.) - I still love ELO, though.
  18. Sex and the City - The first and second seasons were okay. After that the show became a parody of itself.
  19. Taxi I quote more random words and phrases from Seinfeld than is probably socially acceptable - If they ever stop broadcasting reruns I'm sure I'll eventually be misdiagnosed as having tourettes.
