  1. So, how'd that beery work out for you, Mart? I'm celebratory. We celebrated my Dad's 89th birthday today with a big gathering, and he was showered with love and gifts. Tomorrow two of my sisters are taking him to a Dodgers/Nationals game...they have tickets right behind home plate. Dad knows about the game, but he doesn't know that one sister contacted the Dodgers organization, the "ambassadors" they have....an ambassador will be bringing a bag of Dodger mementos right to their seats sometime during the game. Dad might even get stuff like an autographed baseball! How cool is that??!! I ca
  2. You could almost hurt yourself just watching this lunatic! And try to resist that urge to constantly look up, haha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIe6hYAdw_I DO NOT try this at home. Look out, dog at about 00:35!
  3. Charlie, I'm looking into it. Is anyone else experiencing this?
  4. Perhaps we should set a goal of working everybody up to "randy", then maybe we'd reduce everyone's tension levels. Just a thought.
  5. Annoyed. EZ Peel shrimp shouldn't be such a bitch to peel.
  6. The songs have certainly stood the test of time. Hundreds of listens later, they still move me.
  7. So, how's everybody feeling? I just felt like checking in. A one-word answer is preferred, followed by an explanation if you like, or not if you don't. I'll begin: Contemplative
  8. That was wonderful. Thanks for sharing it. Damn, every video puts tears in my eyes.
  9. I know this is already being discussed in the thread titled "The Band", but I thought it deserved to be its own thread. Levon Helm passed away peacefully today. What a huge loss for music, and for all his legions of fans. Rest in peace, Levon. I took this at last June's Solid Sound Festival. So very glad I got to see him perform! Such joy in the music, and in him. I'll remember that performance for my whole life.
  10. Be careful, folks. That's some amazing, terrifying video.
  11. We got a soundboard recording from the Detroit Bar the other night, Sarah...I'll be sharing it with you once it's been tracked. We'll call it a late wedding present. Speaking of weddings, Tom & Sarah's 1st dance was to Patrick's "You're Enough", which he dedicated to them at a show about 2 years back, when they were first engaged. Everything comes full circle!
  12. I suppose you could ask him what color Peter Buck's eyes are, but that'd likely get you a weird look. You can probably come up with something better.
  13. I got to see Patrick play 2 shows over the last weekend, and he did a lot of his new material for his upcoming album. It's sounding very strong! His guitar work always amazes me, and it's better than ever. We heard probably 6 songs that were new, as well as some of the older favorites..."Come What Will" sounded better than ever, "Something Pretty" was exquisite. I'm totally smitten with one of the new songs, called "My Holding Hand is Empty"...gorgeous, softly sung, utterly romantic. I think this is going to be a terrific new album.
  14. This could turn into an interview segment! Or not. I have met Jeff but still have a question. You'd think I'd remember to ask sometime: What the heck color are his eyes? When I've made cover art for bootlegs I've needed to know a couple times and I've never been sure. Gray? Green? They are those sort of eyes that look different in different light, so photos haven't helped. $10 to the first person who can answer this with authority! I'm lying of course, there's no money in it for anybody. After we get this one answered we can work on DBoon's question, and the rest of you.
  15. So sad. Rest in peace, Earl.
  16. I love that! Ah, that's beautiful! Hahaha. Reminds me of: "Never get so open-minded that your brains fall out." Not sure who said that either. These are excellent rules to live by!
  17. Ok I'm nominating that one for Worst Topic Title 2012. Beat you all to it. So corny! But anyway, share some favorite quotes. Old or new, doesn't matter except that you like them. I like this one a lot. "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened." - Mark Twain
  18. That was a terrific version! It caught the soul of the song. Also, how contented is that dog in the avatar of the post just north of mine? Awww.
  19. That sounds better than the movie. I think I will read it. I was hearing good things about the book a long time back...I suspect that internal dialogue gives Katniss far more depth as a character. I think they did try with the movie, but....it's a movie, so the visuals are everything. The scenes that should have been horrifying in the movie were surprisingly bland. To me at least.
  20. It's a great rumor. Good luck! Though I had zero success with that rumor a few years back about them playing a backyard BBQ at my place...
  21. Is The Hunger Games well-written, a good read? I wasn't wowed by the movie, which I saw this weekend. Thought it was utterly predictable in most ways. The futuristic city was cool, and the acting was adequate, but...meh. So I've wondered if the book is better? I finished reading James Ellroy's "Blood's a Rover" yesterday. So intense! It's a very long book, over 600 pages, and took me a bit to get into, but the payoff for sticking with it was huge! I think my brain waves had begun converting over to thinking in the manner Ellroy writes...snapping moment-to-moment snapshots as the world swirls
  22. The 60's were incredible and I miss that energy. The 70's were about half and half for me...a lot of boring music and truly awful disco (there was some great disco too, but omigawd we had to listen to a lot that was purely horrible) but the 70's allowed a lot of freedom and gave rise to some amazing singer-songwriters. And then the late 70's just broke wide open with punk and stuff that was lumped in with punk (but wasn't at all) and pub bands. Late 70's was glorious! 80's....hmmm, I missed a lot of 80's music, busy with work and small children. I feel like I mostly missed the 80's. Feel free
  23. Oh yes...I remember "I'm the Man" and "I'm Always in Love" blasting happily You two?! You two are just pups! Now me, I'm approaching decrepit. Stop freaking out. You'll get there in time. Big clouds of wedding bubbles lifting off over riotously happy music and tables groaning with incredible dishes of food...too, too much food!...and a wedding cake handmade by an incredibly talented friend who spent days putting it together, handpainting sculpted flowers etc.....wow!....this wedding had layers and layers of love, not just between Tom and Sarah, but so obviously from all their friend
