That looks like excellent reading for around Halloween! I'll have to see if the library carries it. I've just finished Jetta Carleton's "Clair de Lune". Fans of her sublime "The Moonflower Vine" will love Clair de Lune as well. A very satisfying story, set just before the onset of American involvement in WWII, and full of the grace and humanity of Carleton's writing. Quite beautiful. The cover makes it look like a sappy romance...I wish they had come up with something more suited. It's less a romance (though there's a bit of that) than it is a story of a young woman's coming of age in 1

I agree, he writes beautifully. I did think his author photo looked a little like a serial killer, but maybe that was just the effect of the stories. That creepy shot on the barren, snow-edged road?

This is a problem we are experiencing with the entire board, and not a problem with your settings. Bear with us, as we are working on an upgrade which should resolve this issue. We expect the upgrade to be completed within a week or two.

That's a beauty! I agree with Diane about going through TMM. It's amazing to me how good this band is to their fans...they really make an effort to show their appreciation for their fans. Years ago one of my Christmas presents was an autographed YHF lp, hanging above me now. My husband arranged that through Tony's offices at the time. I treasure the thing!!! All five members of the band signed it - Jeff, John, Mikael, Glenn and LeRoy - and added some little comments. From Jeff: "To Donna - Drowsy is the new snoozin' - Jeff Tweedy". That comment probably makes sense only to fans who were arou -
I think contrasting these two albums is awkward, simply because they are so different from each other stylistically. I really love both but would, if forced to choose, nab The Whole Love as the one to take to the desert island. It makes me feel happy and hopeful, it makes me sing along loudly and most likely completely off key, without caring if my family hears me. (Poor family) I love an album that can do that. SBS is precious to me too. The title song resonates in my heart at such a sweet level that it nearly brings tears to my eyes. Wow, what a quietly magnificent song it is. The whole al

Ah, nice! I would have loved to see that. -
I'm so proud - I just unrolled and reorganized all my posters into fewer poster tubes, and everything is clearly written on the outside of the tube so I know where each poster is. I should get a medal. I would have to add onto this house or move to be able to display all these. But I still love the artwork of each, and the memories.

I could do without their name. Approve of their political activism though.

Andrew! I saw you on the telecast! No I didn't, but wouldn't it have been fun if it were true! I did see areas that looked vaguely familiar, in your neighborhood I think. Who else is sick of the swimming coverage? You'd think that and gymnastics were the entire Olympics! I don't find swimming very interesting to watch.

I just finished his collection of short stories, Rock Springs. Pretty good, if on the depressing side. He can turn a phrase, for sure. How is "Canada"?

You're all very welcome!

Sounds like I'll be missing that one. Maybe instead I should read the Mick Jagger biography my sister was telling me about, where the author makes reference to Mick's big brown eyes. Um, nope...they've been blue Mick's whole life. Actually I'm currently reading: Powerful stuff.

How was the Simon Pegg book, Maudie? I get a kick out of him.

How gratifying that her words will be read! Thank you, Mel. She was such a gifted writer.

I'd love to hear this! -
I haven't read anything else of hers, but that one is on my reading list. Good to hear that you're enjoying it!

So I was looking for a good, fast-paced summer thriller at the library, and found this: The cover blurbs compare it to Michael Crichton's early books, and I can see that comparison. It moves at a very fast clip right from the outset, and would be a terrific book to have on a beach, or lounging lakeside, or to while away a long flight. The author has a degree in robotics, and it shows...his scenarios are credible and scary! Not for the faint of heart, this book. There are plenty of violent scenes between the robots and humans, but they are very well-written and not dragged out for gore effect.

That's a very cool photo, Sarah!

Every yard should have a few roses! The queen of flowers...and so nice to bring indoors. I have to recommend a favorite of mine, called "Ingrid Bergman". It's a very deep scarlet-red, with dark glossy leaves. The bud is long and stately, and opens to a huge, strong flower. Just gorgeous. And they last wonderfully as a cut flower, too.

Very cool, Jeremy! I know how much work you've put into this.

Right on schedule, the white peaches are ripening to bright yellow and pink and red.

I'm sure it will be a work of art, gogo!

Thanks for the seating chart, Sonny. I hope to be at this show! A full moon, eh? I guess all those werewolf rumors surrounding the band will finally be, ah, "laid to rest".
