  1. Jack's not a virtuoso, but his solos are badass and he has great tone. I'd consider him, J. Mascis, Nels and M. Ward the best of the best out there now.
  2. I've had the Harrison thing for a few years now and it's really nice. I think "Behind That Locked Door" was featured on a Bloodshot compilation already, but the rest is worth hearing, too.
  3. I'll guess by St. Vincent, but I really have no idea.
  4. It's just always struck me as kiddie music. But I digress. American Aquarium tours its ass off huh? The June 16 to June 23 jaunt (Lubbock to College Station in a day? Shreveport-Austin-Ft. Smith in 4 days?) is kinda nuts geographically.
  5. Looking over your lists, I realize I forgot Spoon's Kill the Moonlight, too.
  6. Hopefully I'll get these narrowed down by the end of the year. Sure I'm forgetting a few, too. Songs:Ohia The Magnolia Electric Co. 7. Really? I would say Paul McCartney has definitely had some "rough patches". Then again, I'd call Sgt. Pepper's a "rough patch".
  8. Springsteen never left the forefront of cultural importance. And I think the Arcade Fire has more to do with exposing little indie kids to Springsteen-ian influence than even the Hold Steady.
  9. I don't dislike "Two Weeks" so much as I think it sounds like a more boring version of the Dirty Projectors. And you're right about Panda Bear now that I think about it, which sort of proves my point, because in my opinion only 2 to 3 of the songs on that record (and they're great songs, don't get me wrong) are really memorable.
  10. I agree. I think the only reason people really like them is because they're able to masterfully arrange around the fact that their songs are lacking in substance. I've owned Yellow House for two or three years now, have listened maybe a handful of times, and can't recall a single melody or lyric.
  11. [rant] I'm leaving off Phoenix and Passion Pit because I'm really not into dance pop. If it's any indication of my tastes, I read a friend's facebook status this weekend about cooking breakfast and listening to Thriller on her turntable, and it made me throw up in my mouth a little. Even if I'm dancing I'd much rather do it to some Stax or Motown than anything inspired by the horrible popular music of the 1980s. I can at least see the value in Animal Collective thanks to my love for the Beach Boys, but that doesn't stop me from thinking Merriweather Post Pavilion is maybe the most overrated
  12. I am saving up to get a Blu-Ray for this.
  13. My first time seeing him. What a spectacular show. You can read a review I wrote here, but here's the setlist minus a few I didn't recognize or jot down. Nobody's Darling on Earth (Stanley Brothers) ? Ease Down The Road A King At Night Heart's Arms Death to Everyone What Are You? Hey Little Where is the Puzzle? I Don't Belong to Anyone Dark Feeling of Emptiness Agnes, Queen of Sorrow You Remind Me of Something You Can't Hurt Me Now (?) The Seedling ? New Partner I Am Goodbye (?) You Don't Love Me Silver Threads Among the Gold I See A Darkness Beware Your Only Friend
  14. If you're a fan of the NBA in general, then I highly suggest you read today's excellent Bill Simmons column.
  15. I share a bandmate with Doug. Glad to see someone spinning that one here.
  16. Loving this so far even though I had at least half of it already. It's nice to hear some of the stuff sequenced with a full album's worth of great songs, rather than having to pull out a CD single, which I hardly ever do. Granted, I could make my own Iron and Wine mixes, but I trust Sam to do a better job. And he did.
  17. I recently got a bunch of cds out of storage after moving and found Sound of Lies in one of the boxes. Probably my second favorite Jayhawks record after Hollywood Town Hall. It's been fun getting reacquainted with it.
  18. I'd pretty much agree with this. Not surprising since I spent my high school years alternating between Trace and Crow Pot Pie.
  19. I saw a Nuggets trainer at Potbelly yesterday in his warm-ups. I said "You Better Be Getting That Sandwich To Go Old Man!" but I don't think he heard me. Sure, the Nuggets will probably win, but if it weren't for that horrible non-call Saturday the series would be 2-2.
  20. Good Records had them on Record Store Day. Tons of 'em.
  21. Nope. Another solo record. I think he just finished it but I don't really know all the details yet.
