Love both of these guys. The Josh T Pearson record is one of the best things I've heard all year. I have to be in the right mood for it--it's definitely not casual listening--but it's fantastic.

People always seem to hate on Monster but I still think it's a pretty interesting record. "Strange Currencies" is one of my favorite REM songs.

I definitely can't order mine. I just made an initial list and it was something like 25 or 30 songs. An attempted top ten, pre-TWL. You of all people will love turntable.fm. DJ while you work!

Is there a ViaChicago room on turntable.fm? I haven't found one yet but the site is kinda buggy for me at times. Been having a blast on it for the past week or so though--with all the musical knowledge on this board I'm sure we could get a lively room going for those interested.

Oh crap--how did I forget J Mascis?! I've probably listened to that more than most of the other records on my list... so killer.

I've only listened to the album twice but so far I'm pretty bored with it. I miss the days when he used to rock out a little. Made the ballads hit harder. Also, I find Allison Moorer's stuff to be pretty forgettable, and don't really like when the two of them duet.

So killer. "Boeing 737" is easily my favorite song of this young year.

My band opened for these guys in Dallas. Really nice dudes, and they played a great set for about 15 people with absolutely no complaints. -
I just heard that recently, too. It's pretty boss. Does anyone know if this new Akron/Family leak is for real? 'Cause if so...

I think "Numbers" might be the most bizarre song Ryan has ever released, and that's really saying something. In my opinion he hasn't made a decent album since Jacksonville City Nights, and both that one and Cold Roses had a bunch of filler in between the great songs. I often wonder whether Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandescher and the rest of Whiskeytown helped him distill and edit his ideas for that band, and if Gillian Welch/David Rawlings had the same role during the Heartbreaker sessions. Ever since that album he's felt like a mess to me. He's still put out some brilliant songs, mind you, but he's

I agree about Hills and Valleys. "After the Storm" was probably my favorite song when I saw them last Saturday in Dallas.

I grew up on Robert Earl Keen but haven't seen him live in years due to his sizable fanbase of frat boys. His first five or so albums are all pretty solid though.

This. And Alejandro Escovedo's verse in Whiskeytown's "Excuse Me If I Break My Own Heart Tonight." Classic.

LOVE this.

I got to see William Bell a couple years back at a Stax revue at SXSW. He still has it. "I Forgot To Be Your Lover" is one of my favorite songs ever...

My favorite James Carr song right now is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuQ84qo-Vj0 Any Joe Tex fans in the house? How about Bobby Patterson?

I have all of it. Pride, To Willie and Aw Come, Aw Wry are all essential, three of the best albums I've heard in the past decade. The album and ep that preceded these have their moments as well.
