  1. I just heard "You are listening to a promotional copy of Beware by Bonnie Prince Billy" in a Scottish accent.
  2. Diamond Dave run through Microsoft Songsmith = Genius.
  3. I love most everything Phosphorescent does, and I'm a huge fan of classic Willie, so it's pretty much a dream come true for me.
  4. Hey, Top Ten of 2009, you are 1/10th full.
  5. I listen with headphones a good percentage of the time but can't seem to justify dropping more than 30 bucks on something I will inevitably break or lose. I've probably gone through 20 pairs of earbuds in the last decade or so.
  6. I really wanted to buy this until i saw it was 27 bucks at my local indie store. When i hear "bonus disc", I generally think "free". Most new double albums aren't even that expensive.
  7. I like the Blue Ridge Mountains jam, but I really wish they'd do something that a) rocks harder and b.) shows off their harmonies more. "White winter Hymnal" and "Your Protector" maybe?
  8. The Wrestler is about the only listenable song on here. "There's a wonderful world where all you desire And everything you've longed for is at your fingertips Where the bittersweet taste of life is at your lips Where aisles and aisles of dreams await you And the cool promise of ecstasy fills the air At the end of each working day she's waiting there I'm in love with the Queen of the Supermarket As the evening sky turns blue A dream awaits in aisle number two With my shopping cart I move through the heart Of a sea of fools so blissfully unaware That they're in the presence of something wo
  9. "Queen of the Supermarket" is fucking stupid. Not even Bruce dropping an f bomb can save it.
  10. Can anybody hook a brother up with a PM? This Hold Time you speak of isn't showing up at any of my usual haunts.
  11. I totally agree on Slumdog. The first half was pretty good, but once the brothers grew up I thought it started drowning in cliches. Loved watching Mickey Rourke win the Golden Globe tonight. While I also still haven't seen Milk, I have to think Rourke deserves the Oscar as well.
  12. I need to pick that up this week. How is it?
  13. Anxious to hear what you think. I thought about buying that one, too, but being imports they were muy expensive.
  14. To everyone who's been pimping this album on here, thank you. I bought it at Waterloo and blasted it all the way through the Texas Hill Country over the past few days, along with...
  15. Say what you will, but I love Living With War.
  16. I listened to this for the first time today. Still don't really get it. I'm fine with people digging them, as I like some of their stuff just fine, but all this album of the decade/best band of our time talk is completely ridiculous.
  17. Here's the Top Ten I sent in today for Pazz & Jop: Shearwater Rook Beach House Devotion Dr. Dog Fate Bonnie Prince Billy Lie Down In The Light Fleet Foxes Fleet Foxes/Sun Giant Devotchka A Mad and Faithful Telling She & Him Volume One Sam Amidon All Is Well Neva Dinova You May Already Be Dreaming Matthew and the Arrogant Sea Family Family Family Meets the Magic Christian Bubbling Under: Calexico Hold Steady Tallest Man On Earth Horse Feathers Jolie Holland Sera Cahoone Silver Jews
  18. This comment was just left on the list I linked to above. I am feeling fairly cool at the moment... "Jolie Holland says: Dear Noah, I wanted to thank you for listening to my record, and I wanted to say what an honor it is to be in such good company on your list. First thing I noticed was the reference to Jimmy Dale Gilmore's great song which I just covered recently--I'd love to send you a copy--if you write me an email I'll send it to you. It feels uncanny to see your list because Matt Bauer and Sam Amidon are both friends of mine. Sam just came on tour with me and he's my new favorite fid
  19. Here's a link to a Folk/Americana top ten I did for my newspaper chain. I'd love it if you guys would take a look.
  20. AWESOME record store, though I think it's Grand Prairie. I first saw MMJ at SXSW right after At Dawn came out. They played a set at a Yard Dog Gallery day party and absolutely destroyed. Tons of reverb, Jim James singing behind a stuffed buffalo head, Johnny Quaid playing solos on his back in a pile of hay...by the time they closed with "One Big Holiday" I was a convert. I also watched them blow Guided by Voices and Ben Kweller off the stage as an opener later that year. Evil Urges is easily their worst record in my opinion, but I'd still go see them in a heartbeat.
  21. What about Rodriguez' Cold Fact? That album is suh-weet.
  22. You lucky bastards. Can you tell Justin to come play Dallas already?
