  1. A couple of reasons: The missed boat syndrome. These guys were on par with the Rolling Stones up until the prohibition against their touring the US from 1965 to 1969. (The American Federation of Musicians effectively blacklisted they by refusing to issue permits for the Kinks to perfrom in America in 1965). And once they got 'black listed', Ray Davies is/was TOO intelligent and TOO British to appeal the the sheeple of America. Without a constant presence on the American scene... I place the Kinks firmly in the Top Three Bands of the first British Invasion (with The Beatles and The Rol
  2. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Joy Division... Ian Curtis...tragic
  3. Well, as much as I sympathize with the confusion about acronyms and inside jokes around here, I believe this is pretty common knowledge. But... Drive By Truckers Assuming you haven't checked them out, I would wholeheartedly recommend their work. Screaming guitar work and almost Faulkernesque lyrics. Crow says...check 'em out. Ain't about my pistol Ain't about my boots Ain't about no northern drives Ain't about my southern roots Ain't about my guitars, ain't about my big old amps "It ain't rained in weeks, but the weather sure feels damp" Ain't about excuses or alibis Ain't about no
  4. Good...we got too many Yankees here these days anyway.
  5. Don't be. Dallas won't be able to stop New England's offensive juggernaut. I am a lifelong Cowboy fan; however, I see this one as a loss. However, if the Jedi Master comes through... Maybe I'm just a kid Maybe I just don't fit in I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready I'm ready to go now I don't wanna go to school But I don't get to make the rules Too early, too early, too early, too early in the morning Everybody, everybody, everybody, everybody Has to do something they don't want to do Everybody, everybody, everybody, everybody Has to be something, oh, why is that true? Mayb
  6. I reluctantly give the nod to George. All Things Must Pass is simply sublime. But so is Imagine and Band on the Run. George gets the nod because he guided Ringo's best solo work (It don't come easy, Photograph) and produced Badfinger's best record. PLUS...George had a very successful and impressive career as a movie mogul of sorts. PLUS PLUS...The Concert for Bangeladesh
  7. You have nightmares about Neil O'Donnel connecting two times to Larry Brown ... I have nightmares about Roger Staubach not connecting with Jackie Smith

  11. I don't listen to Mozart or Beethover every day either...but I understand and acknowledge their greatness. Kind of like I have said before...the most overrated band of all time and the most viscerally important band of all time.
  12. A bit of a stretch here...but I am a sick man...
  13. Heh... All Things Must Pass Born to Run Murmur AM Blonde on Blonde
  14. Police say smelly feet to blame in Houston slaying 07:56 PM CDT on Monday, October 8, 2007 From Wire Reports HOUSTON
  15. I voted...but this is a fundamentally flawed question. The Beatles CREATED the modern rock band. It is impossible to conceive our world (musically) today without them.
  16. He really is. I feel a particularly close bond to him because he is me made over. I just got back from a nine-day trip to Canada (Lake Louise, Jasper, Banff...fucking awesome) and that was the longest period I have EVER been away from him. Until he was around 5, I bathed him and put him to bed every night. Mom was there (and still is)...but he is UNDOUBTEDLY my son...in every sense of the word.
  17. You give such a polite response to a stupid post and ream out the nice guy with the links to his songs...
  18. Well...after the Dallas show on Sept. 14th (see report from 9/15), D-man has indicated to me his favorite band is Wilco. "Jeff Tweedy's lyrics are phenomenal!" The circle remains unbroken
  19. It wasn't heaven... but we laughed Halted at the gates out of luck... but we laughed Sun on our left and the sea at our back... but we laughed We laughed Jesus wept Shit happens
  20. I miss Little Feat with Lowell George more than I miss being 13. BEST BAND EVER I'm serious.
