  1. it has been an issue. there's also an main neil young thread for this stuff here.
  2. High Falls is such a great latter day Allman's song. Back Where it All Begins is the best latter, latter day song
  3. been reading his blog and he quotes some musician as 'austin being a great place to leave your things.' may all these dudes be safe on the road.
  4. do you mean anxiety? antisocial is the clinical term for psychopath. if he does suffer from antisocial disorder, then more power to him in being able to be creative with it, although it'd be a miracle. those folks don't get better.
  5. same for me. also, daddy learned to fly. more of a rocker, but damn sad. BTCD longer than TDS, didn't know that. interesting. didn't patterson have some other buford pusser songs for that album? can't imagine how much backlog the guy has as he writes about 10 tunes per incident or story.
  6. i see where you're coming from. at the same time, what's ironic for me is that BTCD doesn't seem as long as TDS or DD. go figure
  7. right. to me, basically everything by my favorite bands is listenable. initially it was the material, but then it becomes the vibe. for example, i like neil young's vibe, so i basically can listen to anything by him. if you like the Trucker's sound and vibe, then all of their albums are pretty good. some material is better than others and this is because songwriters catch a groove and just nail it for a while and then that peters out. the big fans who dig the vibe stick with them, while many fall away. the trucker's problem is that they have way too much material and to resort to covers
  8. i like it. it's interesting, i think our standards are different now for good and bad music now that production has calmed down. bands that were great in the 70s were unlistenable in the 80s mostly because of horrible production (digital synth etc.) and not so much material. however, now that wilco and dbt and others are kind of coming out of their peak, their 'bad' albums aren't anywhere near say neil young's worst albums. at least they are listenable.
  9. that is cool story! yeah, i looked at his tour schedule and it's grueling. i couldn't do it, even with amenities.
  10. we have a pretty nice singer songwriter venue here in atlanta and i am amazed at the packed schedule. there are so many of these folks out there with a guitar and merch touring. most of it is mediocre at best and hackish at worst. mcmurtry is definitely in the top tier of this.
  11. yeah, the 12 string stuff was so compelling. i really hope he does a solo live album. also a very humble and nice guy. hung out with fans after the show and made time for everyone.
  12. yeah, i like the first album too. some of his other stuff has some questionable production. that seems to happen with some of the better, lesser known, songwriters. they're so focused on just playing live they don't have much studio sense. anyway, i was really surprised at how interesting and good hist guitar playing was. i just assumed he was gonna be a bluesy hack, but not at all.
  13. went to see him last night solo acoustic and damn was it a good show. he uses a lot of open tunings and is a great guitar player. one song he was hitting harmonics randomly and it sounded like a pedal steel guitar. got to meet him afterward. very gracious and cool guy. he's one of those dudes that doesn't really have to try. his songs are him and vice versa. it's funny, i remember rolling stone article from 1989 where he was mentioned with some other 'new' singer/songwriters so i've always been aware of him. it's just in the last few years that i'ver really started to listen closely.
  14. i'm quickly becoming the same way. however, after the album, i usually go back to listen to One Wing about 5 times again.
  15. It's 'No One To Run With' sorry, i just can't think about gregg singing 'nobody left to run with anymore'.
  16. incidentally, i saw styx a few years ago in a really small room and it was bad ass!
  17. oh yeah, old and in the way is fun stuff. peter rowan's got some interesting solo stuff. not as much bluegrass as folky. i love that old and in the way record. haven't heard the other ones they released several years ago. fyi, your daughter's radio show sounds amazing!
  18. whoa, it's out. i wonder if they'll be selling CDs? it def has a kind of psychadelic garage rock sound. actually, pretty greasy for john.
  19. sweet! can't wait to listen. gonna check to see if they have a website. http://www.candygolde.com/ there's a song streaming there. very good.
  20. cool. thanks for the recommendations. as for dawg music, well, sometimes it's annoying and sometimes it's just what i want to hear
  21. yeah, i'm just gonna settle for tony rice. it's too huge to get into totally.
  22. wow, this def gives some cred to Furthur. head's haven't been controversial since touch of gray. way to go bob and phil.
