http://www.home.doves.net/history/ This is a must read. Talks about the new album in-depth. Can't wait for this. Also, they have over 100 songs?! I hope we get to hear these some day.

The clips have done nothing for me in the past, but I bit on MPP and I'm liking it. I'm now debating between Feels and Person Pitch for my next purchase. Any suggestions from the fans?

http://www.undertheradarmag.com/ I'm pretty sure I read it in this magazine at a Borders. Looks like the website doesn't have that issue online yet. The 50 minute concert I saw was very short considering the long breaks between songs and the encore break. They only played half of their material. Might have just been an off night I suppose. I'm not rooting against this band, I'm just not sure I'm ready to heap the praise until I see some more from them. If they come out with another good record, I'll be glad to add it to my collection and will happily admit that my gut instinct was

I LIKE the album and the band and generally love harmonies. I saw them in Madison this summer and left a little disappointed. The harmonies were nice, but the stage presence was terrible and there was no flow to the show. There were loooong pauses between songs and Robin kept stroking his beard like a bad parody of a James Bond villain. Even with the long breaks, they only played about 50 minutes. I just feel that they are a bit overrated right now and their success seems like a right sound at the right time happy accident. They have even admitted that they thought the album was crap

Sampled some of their stuff because of this thread. Also came across The Low Anthem on the recent Paste sampler and liked it. So which anthem should I purchase, Gaslight, Low, or both?

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/doves-...003919556.story Doves Prepare To Reclaim Their 'Kingdom' Doves December 04, 2008 01:18 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. U.K. rock act Doves is back amid the friendly confines of Astralwerks for the North American release of its fourth album, due in April. After issuing its 2000 debut, "Lost Souls," on Astralwerks, the band's last two albums came out on Capitol in the States. The as-yet-untitled new set was recorded at the band's home studio in Cheshire, England, and is nearly complete, Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin tells Billboard.com. The first s

I read a quote from the owners of the Chop Suey Palace with which I think we can all agree: "2008 is a very big erection year, get out and vote!"

WHO Are You

They just cancelled their European tour that was supposed to start at the end of the month. He must have gotten dinged up pretty good.

I think there are two levels of okay people are worried about: 1. That his health is not in danger ----- this looks to be great news. 2. That he is okay enough to go on with the Thurs/Fri night shows in Chicago ----- I hope he's ok!!!!

The Obama benefit at Schuba's tonight is definitely cancelled per their website. Still waiting for word on the Thurs/Fri night shows.

I am still undecided at this point. As a person of faith, part of me wants to just vote for Obama because there are so many blind, narrow minded and judgmental "Christians" that just expect you to vote Republican. I really dislike the Karl Rove's of the world that have convinced many "Christians" that they are to blindly follow the Republican party. It makes me ill to think that most non-believers equate being a Christian with being a gun-toting-right-wing-intolerant-war-mongering-Republican. Regarding the attack politics of the speech last night vs. the approach of Obama, I'm not sure ye

Norm MacDonald's brilliant appearance at Bob Saget's roast
marino13 replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Yeah, but you have to admit it took some major balls to tell that joke in front of a roomful of OJ's friends and peers. Also the fact that it was on national tv at a mainstream event is why Norm gets credit for making it acceptable. -
Norm MacDonald's brilliant appearance at Bob Saget's roast

Classic Norm: Norm MacDonald Hosting The 1998 ESPY Awards The jokes were rampant throughout office parties and the Howard Stern show, but many in the entertainment industry still shied away from poking fun at O.J. Simpson after being acquitted for the 1994 murder of his wife, Nicole, and waiter Ron Goldman. Norm MacDonald, who was making a name for him self as a groan inducing anchor on Saturday Night Live was one of the first. While hosting the 1998 ESPY Awards in front of a roomful of the world's most famous professional athletes, many of whom were Simpson's peers and friends, M -
Damn, I just got on to buy tickets to the Minny show and I see it's sold out. Any other recommendations on how to get tickets for this thing? Do people ever try to dump tickets at that venue before the show, we are going to be up there anyway?

I saw Jim James sing "Golden" on Austin City Limits (TV) with Conor Oberst and M Ward. Ran out and bought It Still Moves that week. Thought it was okay for a couple of months and then it hit me and I was smitten. Saw them live for the first time in Nov. 2005 at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis and they've been my favorite band ever since. I've seen them two more times and have tickets to both Chicago shows in October.

I was disappointed about this at first too, but then I saw that this allows the Raconteurs to play for an hour and a half. Bloc Party only got an hour before Radiohead. Go! Team/Black Keys/Raconteurs will be an awesome run on the same stage before huffing it over to Radiohead. I think I may go to the back of the pack for the last few songs.

http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/vel14...naroo-epic.html Show went from 12 to 4. Four full hours in the rain and they supposedly cut a few songs because of the weather!!!

Posted this on another site: http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/my...acket/evilurges Metacritic score is 74 right now with 18 reviews in. General rule of thumb on this site is that the score usually comes down as more reviews come in. If you look at all of the recent scores on the left for other bands, this is a very average score at best. For comparison, other MMJ releases on this site were as follows: It Still Moves - 83 Z - 90 Okonokos - 80 You can't argue with the data, people aren't feeling as much love for this album.

Coincidentally, 4.7 is the exact score they gave the new Weezer album.
-
4.7 from Pitchfork.

I knew as soon as they announced the vote as 56%-44% at the beginning of the show that Cook had won. They don't always announce the margin and I knew that this piece of info was being thrown out there for a mindfook.
