Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
marino13 replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
I was an idiot and picked up 4 seats anyway. What is up with not listing the seats? My printout says "null" under the Section column. -
From the clips I saw, I thought the same thing. It was almost like watching a fake funeral on professional wrestling. I was waiting for Michael to jump out of the casket and clock an unwitting Stevie Wonder over the head with a steel chair. However, how could you not be self aware of how you are acting when you know billions of people are watching. That is, unless you are truly distraught and feeling the loss, then you wouldn't care how you looked on TV.

I had some heart arrhythmia problems a few years ago. Twice I went through extensive tests. The conclusion was that I had "some minor electrical problems" with my heart and that I should just go on with my life as normal. I will go long stretches without even thinking about it, but then I will hear a story like MJ's or my heart will skip a beat and it scares the crap out of me. I told my wife last night that she needs to learn CPR to keep my blood pumping until a paramedic could get there on the rare chance something would happen. Author, sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. The las

With their being little kids involved, I'd say "people are being awfully cavalier" about his INNOCENCE. This is a grown man that consistently had little boys sleep over at his house in the same bed with him. The boys' only line of defense against this predator was their parents, and those parents were as naive as some on this board.

I totally agree with this, and it scares me a little. How many pedophiles are celebrated in death? That being said, it will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next few days. Will he get the Lennon treatment, or the Anna Nicole Smith treatment?

Shocked me too. I was at the store and went back to check for the heck of it. I was surprised they even had it in the first place, but then to find it on an endcap for 7.99 was . Two albums full of Beam for that price is truly a bargain. Regular price was only $9.99.

The CD version of this is $7.99 at Target this week. Also, they were on Jimmy Fallon a few days ago and played a new song.

Saw this list of all Idol winners/runners-up and their home state on another site. The south has dominated this thing, the people vote in droves. Also, the homecomings of the top 3 are always an indicator. Kris had huge crowds and Adam could barely fill the high school football bleachers. Kelly Clarkson - Texas Justin Guarini - Pennsylvania Ruben Studdard - Alabama Clay Aiken - North Carolina Fantasia Barrino - North Carolina Diana DeGarmo - Georgia Carrie Underwood - Oklahoma Bo Bice - Alabama Taylor Hicks - Alabama Katharine McPhee - California Jordin Sparks - Arizona Blake Lewis - Wa

I would argue that Kris is more legit in that he can play guitar, piano and sing. Adam is a theater guy with freakish vocals that they are trying to turn into a rock star. His vocal style reminds me of 80's hair metal and is just not my cup of tea. Also, the judges salivated over him all season which creates a resentment by fans of all the other contestants that it is rigged. These are all the reasons that I wanted Kris to win last night. Don't assume that Adam's sexual orientation cost him the crown. I am sure there were people that voted for and against him because he is gay and for an

I guess I wasn't alone. I Googled their names together and found these. http://totallylookslike.com/2009/01/18/fer...brett-michaels/ http://www.inmirror.com/humor/fergie-bret-michaels

Am I the only one that thinks she looks like Brett Michaels dressed in drag?

I am interested to hear the new songs and see what Ed's come up with now that Bush is out of office. I watched a rerun of their Storytellers the other night and all he talked about was "the Bush administration" this and "the Bush administration" that. I'm not a Bush fan, but it was starting to get annoying. I'm ready for something fresh.

Last season there were screencaps of the person in the cabin who was saying "help me". Everyone thought it looked like Kris Kirstofferson. Does anyone have those screencaps? I am wondering if they look like the new character introduced with Jacob last night. I also subscribe to the theory that this is the person locked in the cabin, not Jacob. Also, was that the cabin that Bernard and Rose were staying in? Bernard was acting creepy last night. Also, if Jacob is the one who will save them all, and he died on purpose as someone mentioned earlier, are we looking at a Christ-like sacrific

Maybe it's for sentimental reasons (it came out when I was 10 yrs old and I wore it out), but I break out Third Stage about once a year and the guitar tones still give me goosebumps. Especially in "We're Ready" , "My Destination" and "To Be a Man".

Actually, I clarified on page 2 that I wasn't using Emma as an example of a classic album. But if you would rather ignore that so your post can be as smart-assed as possible, then go right ahead.
-
Sorry, I wasn't using Emma as a classic, just an example of liking an album better when put in context. I should have been more clear. Another thing to note regarding giving an album hundreds of chances to click. For me, I know there is so much good music out there that I haven't discovered and more good stuff coming out every week. Add to that all the music I already own that I want to listen to and sometimes I would rather just move on than beat an album to death that I'm just not feeling. Too many good tunes to go around and not enough time to listen.

Is Depeche Mode as good as Radiohead or Pearl Jam, because that's who topped the bill the last two years? This year seems like a step down to me.

My state of mind has such an effect on whether I can accept an album. There are many subconcious walls that I have up when I listen to certain bands. For example, when I hear about a band on this board, I listen to some songs on their Myspace or youtube. Do my own research. I'm very open minded and more likely to latch on to the band. However, when someone from my circle of friends gives me an album that they like, and I've never listened to it before, I have a harder time getting into it because I haven't made the "discovery" myself. Then again, maybe it's just because I have a better ta

There is a lot of truth to this. Bon Iver - For Emma is a good example. Knowing the cabin story and the mental state he was in makes it heartwrenching to listen to. If the story wasn't true, it was absolute marketing genius and it made him a star.

songs that make you want to lay down and die

"Love Shack" stinks like my butt crack. And ditto on the Meat Loaf. -
First show is Feb. 28th. I'm eager to see the setlist. I would also love to hear "All You Ever Wanted", especially the 30 secs. of bliss at the end.
-
I didn't have sky-high expectations for this album, but I absolutely love it. Keep listening to it over and over and it keeps scrunching up my face. Going to see him in concert. I hope some of the Attack and Release songs get the full band treatment as well.

Didn't read this whole thread but they are on Letterman Thursday night. Sorry if I'm repeating info here.
