I hadn't listened to Sufjan in months, but this thread inspired me to give Illinois a spin this morning. Pretty sure the summer school kids thought it was weird stuff.

Does anybody know the proposed US DVD release date? Netflix has a page for the movie, but lists the date as unknown. -

I remember reading about this in Sight & Sound or Film Comment quite a few months ago, and have been eager to see it ever since. -
I immediately thought of that, too.

So, if he's being bold he's an asshole, but if he's not bold enough he's a pantywaist?

Is Spawn enjoying that one? I'm looking forward to the day when my daughter is old enough to enjoy Miyazaki... maybe a couple more years.

I don't agree with many of his conclusions, but I still think that was a reasonably thoughtful and fair piece of criticism.

I don't know what that means. I think the terms movie and film are interchangeable.

I like you.

That's true in both cases, but I actually think it's probably less true now about Wilco than in years past. I suspect there's greater collaboration between Jeff and the current lineup than between Jeff and any previous incarnation of Wilco.

I'm way more interested in a Rocky sequel than a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

The Brewers don't have a bad TV crew, but sometimes I'll turn the TV volume down and listen to the radio broadcasters instead. There's nothing specifically wrong with Bill Schroeder and Daron Sutton, but they don't have nearly the personality of Bob Uecker.

AlfTales. "Alf and his friends from Melmac spoof and retell some classic stories (such as Robin Hood, Cinderella, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow etc...) in only the way that ALF could." -
Scalping is a little too similar to shaving, which makes my left testicle uneasy.

No, a fake neck.

Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive." They could at least have the good sense to make it "You Give Love a Bad Name."

I can't stomach those cover bands. Why can't they make room for bands like Riviera? (I know the band couldn't make it this year--baby duty--but I'd make a point of catching them at the fest.)

There are more than one. I teach the short "Africa" chapter from THE BIG SEA... is that the one you bought? If so, that's a damn good read. (I actually ran into 6-7 former students of mine at the show. I'm taking credit for turning at least two of them onto Wilco, more than two years ago.) Before Andrew Bird began, a guy sitting near me said he was waiting for Wilco and wanted to know what Bird was all about. I explained and he decided to give it a try, but not before spending the entire waiting period chain-smoking his weed. During Bird's third song, he left, saying, "That's enough.

Once he crossed 50, I started wondering what the record is. What is the record?

Watching this 1926 film on TCM right now... and, provided I remain awake, it will be followed by 8 Vitaphone shorts.

Was it brilliant or limiting for Bryan Singer to make a true sequel to the Richard Donner-Christopher Reeve movies, right down to the music and credit lettering? All I know is, as a guy born in 1974, I loved it. I guess I just didn't know that I had been eagerly waiting 20 years for a sequel to Superman II. I also found it interesting that this new movie makes the Christ-figure stuff far more overt.
