  1. So this was the surprise acoustic in-store performance at the venerable Waterloo Records, and it was cool to hear Jeff reminisce about playing one of Wilco's earliest-ever shows at Waterloo (and naming the exact date: March 18, 1995); about Uncle Tupelo recording Give Back The Key To My Heart with Doug Sahm not far away from where they were standing; and about discovering Daniel Johnston through Waterloo in the early 1990s and buying all of Johnston's cassettes, which Jeff said he still has. All in all, it was a pretty generous and intimate 35-minute performance before about 275 or so who ha
  2. OK, that makes more sense then. And yeah, that's probably what happened with SW when the weather rolled in. Thanks for the knowledge!
  3. Forgot to add that it seemed like the crowd really came alive after Art Of Almost, giving the band an extended, loud ovation. Often you see that after Impossible Germany, but as with that song, Jeff pointed toward Nels to receive the bulk of the applause.
  4. I couldn't attend, but just crossposting the setlist from Wilcoworld/Wilco Facebook so this one doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Noteworthy if only for the fact that this might be the first non-acoustic show instance in which Star Wars hasn't been played in its entirety and straight through to start the set. Can anyone verify the accuracy of this setlist? (Also, I assume California Stars wasn't done hootenanny style but maybe it was.) 01 - More... 02 - Random Name Generator 03 - The Joke Explained 04 - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart 05 - Art Of Almost 06 - Pickled Ginger 07 - Hummingbird
  5. A momentous night in New Orleans for Wilco, which christened the newly restored — and pretty gorgeous, I must say — Orpheum Theater with its first (rock) concert in a decade. And quite a concert it was, with a pretty boisterous crowd for a Monday night. Beyond the reopening of the Orpheum, this was — if I'm not mistaken (and somewhat amazingly) — the band's first indoor headlining show in New Orleans since a memorable two-night run at Tipitina's in 2008. So after stormy weather had cut short its Jazz Fest set earlier this year and with the energy of a new album in the air, a sell-out crowd
  6. No official affiliation with the band (sigh...just kidding). Just a guy who tries to make it to as many shows as I can, while I can. As far as this show goes, I've been trying to come up with some sort of recap but struggling a bit because I really had very little sense of the rest of the crowd. I can describe the show from my perspective, which was felt very intimate (or as intimate as a large concert hall with two balconies can be), but I'm not sure if that will provide a very accurate depiction of how it was to a majority of the audience. At any rate, one thing that affected the sonic as
  7. I believe the porcelain cat was procured in LA, actually, just before the start of the West Coast tour last month. By Nels and Yuka. I liked how Jeff petted it during the end of (I think) Hummingbird. What I think was procured at the thrift store across the street from the Loft was the painting that is the cover art of SW.
  8. Well, there was a whole tribute record of Wisconsin bands doing Summerteeth a while back, was there not? I know indie bands The Low Anthem and Milo Greene have both covered A Shot in the Arm. From Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, you have Chicago soul/funk band JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound with their great version of I Am Trying To Break Your Heart. And in the complete opposite direction, there is Bill Fay's spare, gorgeous recording of Jesus, etc. from his Life Is People album a couple of years back. If you count California Stars as a Wilco song, then I'm sure there are more than a few cover versi

  10. Exactly what I was thinking, because that would be kinda weird!
  11. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the middle of New York so hopefully some folks will chime in soon! Hope it was a great one...
  12. Yikes...hopefully it wasn't too distracting. Thanks for inviting me (and picking up the tab)! It was great to finally meet you, so thanks for saying hi. Here's a pretty well-written review of the show from the Montréal English-language paper, the Gazette. I happen to know for a fact that the writer was in the front row, which I think is fairly unusual for most critics; he has done some good pieces/interviews with Wilco and Nels in the past.
  13. I blame the lack of expeditiousness mostly on not being able to access free WiFi right away so thanks for filling the void (and adhering to the titling convention ). The only thing I would add is that Spiders (Kidsmoke) was the electric version, which has been a relative rarity in recent years. Hearing that — in this venue, particularly — brought me back to 2004-2005 again, which was fun. For reasons of personal nostalgia but also just by its very nature, I think Métropolis is a really good all-around venue for Wilco. It's a comfortable 2,200-capacity club with a good sound system, pretty ni
  14. Yay! Glad they finally put this online; I think it was one of the coolest aspects of the timeline exhibit. Thanks for the heads up, Mariana! And maybe Glenn was too busy putting together the Prepared Drum Head Orchestra to share a memory?
  15. Always great to hear from John, especially about his influences, but ugh for "Graham" Parsons.
  16. Pretty sure it's Mike's John Hancock at the bottom, fwiw (one of his early signatures...haha). And as far as worth, I always liked Jeff's comment that he's signed so much stuff over the years that unsigned stuff is probably worth more than the signed stuff at this point...
  17. Haha! I appreciate the sentiment...but I don't think I'm worthy of being in that conversation!
  18. In lieu of a full recap since I'm a bit time-challenged and since there was precious little from Banter Corner — though Jeff did mention it had been a while since the band's last visit to the Cleveland area (over seven years) and even correctly stated the exact date (Feb. 22, 2008, in Lakewood), which suggests that he at least glanced at that previous show's setlist [editor's note: though he didn't mention the band's show in nearby Akron just last fall] — I am just going to mention a few random things that I noticed over the previous two nights. Important things first: The hat was back last
  19. Not sure I'll be able to make it, but thanks for the intel (on events in my own town, no less!) Tatlock=eyes and ears.
  20. Acme is really good, IMHO. At least for my tastes; always seems to be some interesting stuff there whenever I stop by (which unfortunately isn't that often). I've also had good luck digging at Bullseye in the past. Haven't been to Rush Mor (or maybe I have, but only for a very quick visit) or Luv Unlimited, so thanks for the tips! And I hope the original poster reports back...
  21. I was totally thinking of you when they started playing that, so I'm glad your ploy worked! (We met outside in line, btw). 22. Won't have time to write much of a recap until later, but this was definitely a fun way to kick off the next leg of the Star Wars tour. It's nice to be back indoors, in a decent sounding venue which gave both the new record and the hootenanny encore a vibrancy that maybe was missing a little bit at some of the outdoor festivals and amphitheaters the band played over the summer. If I'm not mistaken, tonight was the first time Star Wars has been publicly performed in its entirety indoors (and certainly with electric instruments inside). It was terrific fun to hear ELT in the hootenanny, whic
