  1. Now, that makes for a great day. Happy Birthday, you!
  2. I'm so pathetically non-crafty it's ridiculous, but I was thinking of asking you to knit me up an arm splint cover for after my surgery on Friday. I'm now thinking I waited WAY too late.
  3. Me, too! I've been looking forward to that ever since that strange April night in Jersey when an alien flowerpot gave us the word about it.
  4. That was a lovely film, in my opinion. I just finished watching the last episode of Season 3 on DVD. I can't believe it's over! What a fantastic show. It's going to sit sparkling in my mind along with The Office as examples of shows that ended long long LONG before I'd had enough. Is anyone watching this season of The Wire?
  5. I've been supposing they're talking about this: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=24470
  6. I have no idea when we'll make it -- I don't think I can walk to the venue for this one. But we'll see you there whenever we do make it! Do you know Morgantown at all? I stayed there overnight once and it was surprisingly great, but I have no idea where the venue is relative to where I stayed.

    Nels/Glenn Tour

We saw Nels and Glenn at the Black Cat last night in DC, and it was seriously wonderful. I don't know if it was the really low stage or the fact that there wasn't a wall of Wilco equipment between me and them, but it had a more initimately intense feeling than times I'd seen them before. Glenn especially seemed particularly fired up, and his songs have become both tighter and more complex than when I saw him open for Jeff one zillion times last year. If you're on the fence at all about attending any of these shows, I'd definitely encourage you to go. The Nels and Glenn Karen Coltrane on i

    Golden Smog

As opposed to formerly, when it was his official nomenclature. (harhar)
  9. It is indeed magnificent, particularly the vegetarian chili fries. Seriously. That's why Wilco should always do two nights at the 930, one night for Ben's and one night for Ethiopian. I have to take some exception to that, having seen Wilco something like six times at the 930. The crowd has run the continuum from decent to magnificent whenever I've been there.
  10. There are some genuinely cool ethiopian places within a few blocks of the 930 club. Dukem is three blocks away (I'll put it first because it's the best) 1114 U St. NW Etete is two blocks away 1942 9th St. NW I wish I could remember the name of the jamaican carry out place just around the corner. It's delicious as could be, but it's in a weird spot, so it's kind of hard to describe where it is. Oh, well, if you get a hankering for jamaican, ask people in line, it's likely I'll be one of them. And no, I wouldn't spend $120 on a scalped ticket, if only because it's too early to pa
  11. I know I've told the story in a thousand I'm Quitting threads before, but in case it helps: I smoked from the time I was 13 til the time I was 33, and smoked two packs a day for the last fifteen or so years of that. Quitting was the most difficult thing I've ever done, and absolutely the best thing I've ever done. I quit before the patch existed, and I think it would've been easier if I'd had it -- I definitely had powerful nicotine withdrawal symptoms (muscle tension, weird visual stuff, and the powerful desire to kill everyone, including my loved ones, preferably with great violence).
  12. I don't think there's anything at all wrong with a venue having a presale to promote its own shows. Happier still, judging from the comments in 930's forum, their presale didn't seem to be swallowed whole by scalpers the way both Wilco sales were.
  13. I also use firefox. Most of the people I know use firefox, actually, though I guess most of the world still doesn't.
  14. After 22 minutes of a busy signal, and "too many transactions" and then "one seat is too many, pick fewer seats," I finally got "The ticketing system currently indicates that no seats are available for this performance." Boo.
  15. Oh, I take it back then, thanks for reminding me. It wasn't one of the most bleh Wilco shows I've ever seen, it was THE most bleh Wilco show I've ever seen.
  16. Yeah, I noticed those tickets on ebay were old ones as well, probably from the 930's own presale. In my long and varied experience as a wilco presale buyer, I'd say something was administratively wrong with this sale. I've seen tickets go quickly, but in this case the red letters came up practically before I even logged in. In anycase, I'll just give it another try tomorrow. BTW, Wilco did play DAR in 2003, and it was one of the most bleh wilco shows I've ever seen. Their usual way of coping with their extreme DC popularity is to do two nights at the 930, though you're right, it doesn
  17. I believe I still have a vhs version of it around here somewhere. I distinctly remember watching it because I have a friend who was there, weeping piteously during Don't Dream it's Over (as you would), but they edited it so it looks like she's weeping piteously during Skin Feeling. How evil was that?!

  19. Yeah! That's what made them terrible!
  20. Haha, thanks Maudie, I'll let Brian know people are talking about his song again.
  21. "convicted child arsonist" HA! Thanks for posting that.
