I've seen them play at venues that small, and not only were there no riots, they weren't even sold out. But the clincher was that they were in weird, out-of-the way towns, ones not that close to urban centers. I don't think Ann Arbor fits that description, so you're probably right.

Happy Birthday, Rob! Hopefully our paths will cross again at some random pennsylvania show or other.
-
Nah, as long as you and Brianne show up, I'm pretty sure that's all they need. Though they might be weeping a little over the loss of SkyKevin...
-
If it were me (and believe me, if it weren't for an unshakable family obligation, it would SO be me), I would travel the day before the show and camp out, shivering, in Brianne's yard until she felt sorry for me and invited me to sleep over.

I adore Califone, but also think Detholz live is not to be missed. And definitely keep half an eye on that keyboard player -- it's way more than a little jig.

Risotto man! Happy Birthday!!!

Yeah, he played the tiny back room of the Black Cat in DC. It sounded like it was amazing -- some details if you care to read them I didn't get the impression that it was posted on his site, rather that it was a controlled leak by way of some local blogs.

Funny, but way wrong.

I keep meaning to hunt down the archived thread for the first private show to add to this thread. It's the unrecorded one, so this is all we've got to remember it by: http://archive.viachicago.org/index.php?sh...17&hl=santa Sigh, it was dreamy. Seriously drunken, but also definitely dreamy. (p.s. a few of the pics are red-Xd hotlinks, but most are still there)

Happiest bithday ever to the best Jon Brion fan ever. Here's to many many more Largo nights, Wilco regional touring, and celebrity breakfasts at Hugo's.
-
Haha, close enough!

Plus there are a few VCers visible in that one.

Yow, that's pretty! He sure does have a habit of playing Dreamer in my Dreams when I'm not looking. Sneaky! Someone needs to explain the Pat's ghost story, please.
-
Or he figured those few lines were about $3 worth.

I've seen both bands open for Wilco, and they were fantastic. I gotta tell you, hearing Detholz was opening made me feel way jealous that I'm not going to that show. It'll be FUN.

It's 9ish where you are, and there's all kinds of good thoughts heading your way from DC. Let us know how everything goes.

I tried to look back, but my height, or lack thereof, was an issue.

I also attended the last three shows of the tour and really can't rank order them. But I was thinking today about the new songs, and my favorite versions of each lined up nicely along all three -- my favorite Impossible Germany was in Morgantown, my favorite Walkin' was in DC, and my favorite LNGCA was in Latrobe. I haven't heard them myself, but parisisstale is right that the Huntsville recordings got seriously raved about here quality-wise.

It does hold only a thousand, and it didn't come close to selling out, but I overheard some WVU people say they'd sold 600 tickets. Still a very small crowd, but a bit more than 200.
-
Haha! And yes, thank you. Glenn suggested before the morgantown show that maybe I'd been in a barfight. That's a pretty good line, and I intend to use it next time someone asks me what happened.

How lovely, thanks for posting. The anniversaries of his death have got to be hard, but stuff like this brightens things a little bit.

I'm curious, did he say this from the stage, or did you talk to him after the show?
