Hearing variations on songs I love is pretty much what I live for, so I'm going to come down firmly on the side of NOT copying the studio version for live shows. The tempo issue is not that important to me, but I do believe I've noticed that when they first started playing the current version of Spiders live, they played it faster than they do now. I liked faster.

I just counted, and I've got 49 books on my waiting-to-be-read stack. Somehow, it never stops me. I'm still reading this, and I'm still stunned at his ability to describe a scene, both the physical scene and the internal dynamic. I think my concept of heaven would have to include Ian McEwan descibing pivotal moments to me. I've just started this one. Kind of beautiful, kind of creepy (it's supposed to be both).

So it'd be pretty much like me in DC flying all the way to LA just to see a concert. Too too crazy insane!!

It's a memoirish story about the early 90's punk scene in DC, told through letters and 'zines. It's pretty dated stuff, but very fun anyway, and accurate, judging by what I observed from the outside edges of it. Yes, and that novelistic narrative applied to a true story -- it was pretty danged groundbreaking for 1966.

I first read In Cold Blood when I was 12, and thought it was great. I recently re-read it because of the Capote movie, and I'm amazed at its brilliance. Geeze, that guy could write. I'm currently reading which is fun, and which I'm loving so far. McEwan surely does know how to write an opening scene...

Although seeing the Finn Brothers on their most recent tour was great, the second to the last Neil show I saw was one of my concert dreams. It was at the 930, he was very happy, the entire staff of both the australian and new zealand embassies were there (or so it sounded), and the show devolved into a great big fat glorious crowded house sing-along. Crowded House show-wise, I don't think it's ever going to be better than that. Barring the time machine, of course.

I had an opportunity to go, too, but already had a vacation planned, so I ended up spending the week in Edinburgh instead of Sydney. My mistake!

Yep, I'm very enthusiastically adding myself to the roll call. For whatever reason, even though my membership is long-lapsed, I still carry around my Crowded House fan club card.

We're in the middle of season 4 (don't worry, no spoilers), and I have to say I like it better than season 3. I tell you this just on the off chance that you dislike season 3 once you see it-- I don't want you to despair. Seasons 1 & 2 remain some of the best drama ever to grace a television screen.

Not just any flyers, misleading ones (trying to make it look like Steele was endorsed by prominent Democrats): "Misleading GOP Handouts Called a Political 'Low Point'" Ehrlich and company said they didn't have anything to do with it (of course). It's another cute parallel to The Wire, though. Nationwide, if they just get us our habeas corpus back, I'll be reasonably contented.

Yeah, I think each of the groups did it differently, but I don't think anyone did anything resembling an entry fee or anything. Both years our "strategy" was just to gather up friends we'd traveled to shows with and such, have everyone give as much as they could, and then cross our fingers (and fret some) that it would be enough. So, some people gave $100, some people gave (obviously) quite a bit more. As Wendy says, we don't even know if Jeff's doing the private show thing again -- it's gotta be draining while they're touring and recording and whatnnot, regardless of how charming
