  1. Not if your watched Rescue Me they're not. Definitely not.
  2. Gogo raving about this show is what made me give it a try last season and I was pulled in immediately. I grabbed the previous seasons on dvd and didn't watch anything else til I was caught up. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to this!
  3. Hopefully this won't be the case here, but an Annapolis radio station gave away a "private show" before a 930 club Wilco show, and it ended up being that they got to listen to soundcheck. Not that listening to soundcheck isn't a fun thing, but we've had some pretty fantastic private shows among VC folks, and I wouldn't bet money that this is one of those.
  4. The Eighth Wonder of Canada (rising to #1 with a bullet):
  5. I've always wanted to go to the greek! And I think there are non-stops from dc to lax!
  6. In all three LR (Basement in our case) shows I attended, musical members of our group both played songs with Jeff, and entertained the crowd before and after Jeff's performances. He was more than gracious, and if he didn't enjoy it, he's an excellent faker. Telling Jeff that he had to sit and listen to the before- and after-performances would be really awkward, though. Making it possible for him to listen if he wants to is lovely. Making it mandatory as payback for your donation is, uhmm, not quite as pretty.
  7. Oh, dear. I believe the SF Chronicle was the same paper that reported Jeff and Fred's IATTBYH scene as if it were serious.
  8. Haha, Patti rules, I adore her. Happy late birthday -- may you have another glorious year of singing glorious Al Green and Police and Martin Rivas songs.
  9. I think the relevant line of this auction is "0 bids." You can put up any asking amount; it doesn't mean anyone's going to actually pay it.
  10. I wasn't sure if maybe this wouldn't be just kind of an art house Fight Club, but instead it's gorgeous and brilliant. Even though I could pretty much predict what would happen (the "back stage" insanity made me think of parallel scenes in "They Shoot Horses Don't They"), it was set up and acted so beautifully that I loved it.

Yeah, I think you're right, whenever Neil Finn plays in DC it seems like the entire staff of the New Zealand and Australian embassies attend as a group. They create an amazing ruckus between songs until Neil acknowledges them (which always happens early), and then they're appropriately reverential the rest of the show.
  12. I never have any problems with that as long as I've heard the song plenty before I ever heard it in the commercial. I don't think of HP when I hear Picture Book because I'd already listened to it a zillion times before I ever heard it on the commercial, and the same is true of Revolution. I suspect Thanks I Get is going to be safe, too. On the other hand, Pink Moon is pretty much always attached to that commercial in my head -- I didn't listen to it much before the commercial, so the commercial's associations win.
  13. No need to apologize -- I wasn't criticizing, just trying to be helpful. Sometimes I avoid offering up that kind of information becuase it's hard to word it without sounding smug.
  14. His outfit made me want to die. I've never thought of committing suicide over fashion before, but that outfit sure enough did it for me.
  15. Anyone who's interested in further conversation about The Blisters could put "The Blisters" into the search feature here and find plenty.
  16. Hmmm, I bought my tickets at 7:30pm last night, and they still seem to be available on ticketmaster this morning.
  17. Just don't forget what you need to do if you want an ass hug!
  18. I thnk it's really smart that they asked -- it's true that the people who post on this site are beyond loyal and will almost certainly buy the recording once or more. But there are a lot of folks on wilco's mailing list who might not have heard the argument put forward so cleanly, and I imagine those folks just got moved from the Maybe I'll Buy It If I Find It On Sale at Best Buy column to the Of Course I'll Buy It! On Tuesday! At the Hideout! column.
  19. 930 has a pretty active forum, you could try asking in there.
  20. What great breakfast reading that was! There's a lot of good stuff in there -- I really like the explanation of the band as always having been collaborative, the difference being that it's actually working well this time. And I enjoyed his thoughts on how the AGIB songs have changed for him enough that I'll copy that paragraph here. And I especially enjoyed that fact that this is a Pitchfork interview that was not administered by a jerk.
  21. I'm not from the UK, so I can't back you up, but I'm putting my vote in for loving Spaced and Green Wing and (sorry ) Extras.
  22. ysi is all System Busy, but I just wanted to say the words Ken Coomer to you and collect my fruit cup.
  23. These kind of posts can be really helpful if they're delivered in a way that doesn't make the original poster feel stupid. If it was something that's been discussed to death recently, the new poster might not know why people aren't dying to talk about it. And in a case like this one, when pretty great covers and b-sides compilations have already been put together, it seems silly not to mention it. The ideal is to not deliver them in a smug manner, though.
  24. The Return (Vozvrashcheniye) is a beautiful, wonderful, stunning russian film about how two brothers deal with the return of their father, whom they've never known. cryptique's message contains the composers I would've mentioned, but I'd also add that Dmitri Kabalevsky wrote a lot of beautiful music, the cello works being the ones that caught my heart.
