If you want to hear a gorgeous voice singing gorgeous songs, this is the place you want to be!

Have I mentioned that you folks are just wonderful? I had a wonderful birthday, the highlight of which was my beloved and way too infrequently seen sister coming to visit, and which was topped off with a massive present-opening session. It turns out people make a big fuss over age 50, who knew? It was just like Christmas, only you don't have to wait politely to watch others open theirs. Wheee!! Marty, my dear, I'll see you tomorrow night. Patti has the details of where we're going for dinner, in case you want to make a surprise appearance. And for all my other darling friends, I'll

Vid for Obama by Scarlett J, John Legend, and others

Wow, I was totally taken in by that. Brilliant, just brilliant. "There's nothing false about hope..." -
Wow, what excellent behavior on the part of a venue! I'm impressed. Me too, and me either.

My, how we've grown. I remember seeing him at tiny lil Iota.

Not a complaint (see other threads for that) but a request

It's great in theory, but at shows where folks have done this, it dissipates the energy that's built up through the show. Even knowing that the encores are "fake", there's kind of an arc of excitement that builds with the applause when the band is off the stage. Many years ago, Autumn Defense played Iota here near DC. Iota is a tiny place with an often unnaturally polite crowd. The setup of the place makes leaving and returning to the stage pretty awkward, so a lot of performers just say they'll keep playing rather than doing an encore. Apparently no one mentioned this to Pat and Joh -
Top Favorite US Cities you have visited...
Hodie replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
That's the neighborhood my sister lived in when she was there, and I loved it. San Francisco is a very comfy city for me. DC is absolutely without question the best city I've ever lived in -- and yes, I do live IN the District. It's a very neighborhood-y town, and I felt at home here the minute I arrived, 23 years ago. No one is more surprised than I am to discover how much I love LA. And it's not just my Jon Brion/Largo obsession, either. It can really be a great town, for music and food and groovy neighborhoods. It's just too danged bad about the smog, though. Bleh. -
Happy birthday to another marvelous Aquarian.

Time to visit the first page again.

And a bump to go with my edit..

I do believe MeDave played that with Jeff at one of our Basement Shows.

Sorry for resurrecting a long-dead thread, but I saw them last night at the Black Cat. I was going to put something in After the Show, but I realized that I didn't have anything more interesting to say than "WOW." I was smitten from the very first riff. It's very audience interactive (lots of dragging people on the stage to dance, some of whom were freakin' great dancers), and a wonderfully entertaining show. And as noted in this thread already, the music is just amazing -- Al Green and James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone all rolled together, only more modern plus she's a girl.

I'll just bump this...

I've seen it a couple of times, and I love it. Until the Atonement/No Country one-two punch, it was the only movie that came to mind when people asked what I've liked recently.

Happy birthday, you infant you. It'll be a great year, especially if you bring lots of candy to the show in April.

Hey, it's only been 9 days since the show! I am by no means finished obsessing! Not even close!

My oh my, I love how Jon hollered the vocals for those Lennon songs. Thanks a million for the link.

EDIT: We now only need one, so if you have a Wednesday to trade for a Tuesday, send me a PM! I don't know which sub-forum this belongs in, since we both have extras and need tickets, so I'll just put in both. If that's bad, dear mods, let me know. My friend needs a Wednesday 2/27 930 Club ticket, and I have an extra Tuesday 2/26 930 Club ticket. If anyone would like to trade, gimme a PM. I have another friend with two extra Tuesday tickets, and he wants at least one Wednesday, so the trade could be for anything up to three tickets. Thanks for any help.

I was so shocked yesterday when I read this that I couldn't think of a thing to say, and I'm still reeling. I only ever talked to Nat on the phone, I never got to meet her in person. Though given her straightforwardness, meeting her here definitely counts as knowing her. Bbop mentioned to me back channel how this is a reminder to carpe diem, and he's right. The diem is all we've got, I know Natalie seized hers, and I'm going to try to follow her lead.

Wow, thank you so much. Jon Brion freakin' rules the universe. Not to put too fine a fangirl point on it or anything. But wow. (I'd completely forgotten that he did the backup vocals for the Cheers song, and wouldn't it have been grand if the youtube poster had gotten the Sugar Plum Fairies segment of that medley, too?)

Just the reaction I was hoping for. I can't wait to see this.

And I back his back up one jillion percent further. But I'm glad the awesomeness is coming through on the video, too, though! Sub in "goofy little plastic glasses of champagne", add in a number of questioning looks at each other regarding the lyrics, and you're on.
