Oil Can Boyd
It's been a good series so far but somehow Perez (3-11, 6.55 ERA) vs. Reyes (5-8, 5.06) doesn't quite seem like playoff baseball ...

bobbob1313
For some reason, the Mets struggles aren't bringing me as much joy as I though they would. Maybe if they actually lose the series it will hit me.

That play with Edmonds, Encarnacion, and whoever standing there watching the ball drop between them in the fifth pretty much summed up the night for the Cardinals. Yuck. Luckily that was the only play I saw because it seems like the rest of it was just as ugly....

Twisted Acres
What a relief that the Mets were able to get back to Glavine being tied in the series 2-2. You never know what you're gonna get from Oliver Perez; 1 run in 8 innings, or 8 runs in 1 inning. Thankfully last night was somewhere in-between, and good enough to buy us one more night at Shea. It's Glavine on 3 days rest though. A very different proposition. Forecast in STL is rain for today. Hoping hard for a rainout so we can get Tommy back on normal rest. As for Suppan's performance, you just have to be amazed when a pitcher throws a shutout and hits a home run. That is the ultimate performance in baseball. Single-handedly winning a game like that (notwithstanding the defense behind him). Thank god those bats woke up last night, though. Now its a best of 3 series with 2 in NY. It could be worse. austrya
Being a fan my whole life, it's really going to piss me off when I can't get tickets to see them play next season.
MrRain422
Yeah, it'll be annoying to not be able to get tickets, but every team has more fans when they're winning than when they're losing. And the bandwagon fans are necessary, because without them, ownership/management wouldn't have as much incentive to put a winning team together. If people always supported the team, even when they suck, they make their money anyway.

Blue and Green
I guess the Unknown Losers were eliminated a long time ago.Nope just not a big fan of a really long season that doesn't matter much. I mean come on the world series home team is decided by the all-star game?? What sense does that make?

quarter23cd
If people always supported the team, even when they suck, they make their money anyway. And then there are the owners who feel entitled to sellout crowds even when the team hasn't shown signs of life for years. Right now I'm visualizing a grumpy Peter Angelos shaking his fist and screaming "...but look at this beautiful stadium! How dare you people stop showing up!!! That's it, next year we're going to be even worse!!!"

tongue-tied lightning
Lou Piniella was expected to be introduced Tuesday as the new manager of the Chicago Cubs, a baseball source told The Associated Press on Monday. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal has confirmed that Piniella will receive a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year. That means Piniella will be under contract through 2009, or one year longer than current Cubs GM Jim Hendry. The hiring could also fuel speculation that the Cubs may try to acquire Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Piniella was previously A-Rod's manager in Seattle.

MattZ
The hiring could also fuel speculation that the Cubs may try to acquire Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Here we go. All winter long we get to hear about the 20 teams that ARod is rumored to be traded to. Can't wait. WFAN in new york reported the other day that the white sox were the first team to call Cashman inquiring about ARod.
MrRain422
I can't imagine why they would trade A-Rod. I can't picture a deal that would be worth it for them. Congrats in advance to whatever team pulls it off though.
