Mr. Heartbreak
Phil Ochs - Doesn't Lenny Live Here Anymore? Phil once described this song as "a study in levels of depression," and he wasn't kidding. He committed suicide at 35. You laugh at the people who walk outside on the sidewalkAnd you talk to yourself so muchThat when you see other people you can't talkThis time it's trueThe charade is throughAnd you can't seem to run away from youAnd the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? You sit at the deskTo lose your life in a letterBut the words don't seem to come and you know that they betterAnd it's all so strangeThe pictures lose their framesAnd I bet you'd never guessThere was so much painUntil the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? The moon, she shines too soon and simply, sadlyYou love your love so much that you'd strangle her gladlyAnd it's all so slowThe time has ceased to flowAnd the whistling whore knows something you don't knowAnd the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? The deep sea diver ignores the sharkskin warningAnd the empty mailbox chews on your hand every morningThe buzzards bend to flyAnd you don't know whyAnd the tears cannot appear so you can cryAway the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? Fiddler takes a sniff and picks up the fiddleAs you race from wall to wall, stumble down in the middleAnd you're torn apartNo more point to startAnd you feel you'd like to steal a happy heartThen the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? You swore you'd store your love for one time onlyNow you search the books in vain for a better word for lonelySuch a shadow sceneFrom your movie dreamWhen the silence of the load explodes a screamAnd the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? The fat official smiles at the pass on the borderAnd the hungry broom makes sure that the room is in orderAnd you pull the shadeAll the beds are madeAs your lips caress the razor of the bladeAnd the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStands rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? The heat of the sun shines just outside of the winterThe shoulders charge, the boards of the barricade are splinteredNow at last aloneThe flashlight is shownHello inside, is there anybody home? It's the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loserStanding rejectedly by your doorDoesn't Lenny live here anymore? Are you sure? Dude
Not really slit your wrists depressing, more poignant / maybe a bit sappy sad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUS5nFn0vsk
Gobias Industries
Pavement - Here is my new really sad song. This song can make me tear up, and I'm a dude. Where on the studio version (not the Luxe & Reduxe version that is the basis of every Youtube of this song) when the heavily distorted kicks in after the last chorus, it's pretty damn cathartic. Just really poignant, though, uh, hell if I know what any of it means, except for the first line: "I was dressed for successbut success it never comes"
Wild Frank
This is the saddest song I know. Its by Tom Waits and is called 'I'm Still Here'. For me it's about an old couple and the man and the woman, whilst married, have lost the spark. The woman is pre-ocupied with her life and does not really interact with the man at all. He is still craving romance and the love/lust that used to be present in their relationship. The lyrics are sad on there own but when you hear Tom actually sing the song it will break your heart to pieces. Try it. You haven't looked at me that way in yearsYou dreamed me up and left me hereHow long was I dreaming forWhat was it you wanted me for You haven't looked at me that way in yearsYour watch has stopped and the pond is clearSomeone turn the lights back offI'll love you til all time is gone You haven't looked at me that way in yearsBut I'm still here

uncool2pillow
Not the saddest I know, but the saddest I've heard in a while. Finally got around to listening to the new Dawes LP. Was finishing up when I was on a run. As I was finishing the run, it came up. It was like a punch in the gut. I should only stick to my workout playlist.
