Anyone here into Ferry and his boys? Early/late Roxy? Can't stand them?

I have been given a complete discography of their albums by a friend who was moving overseas. Pretty good listening. I had never really delved into their albums as such, knowing them as a singles band really.

however, Avalon stands as one of my favourite songs of all time (lemme guess, the hardcore fans hate it?)

I'm not a hardcore fan, but I agree with you on "Avalon." The beauty of Flesh and Blood (for me, anyway) is that it has a lot of the sounds that the band would perfect on Avalon.

my favorite is "Siren"

roxy_music.siren.jpg

from "end of the line" to "just another high" this is terrific stuff.

and i will attest to the casbah-rockin-ess of the bbc sessions pneyu found. AWESOME.

to kick off your roxy-spree, you may want to check out the dvd of their show at the Apollo from a few years ago. it will give you a good overview. this show (tour!) was mind-blowing. (unintentional nod to "every dreamhome a heartache" there... :monkey )

i know these posters are holding back. you will find some rampant roxy-love on this board. :love

DREAM HOME HEARTACHE!!!!!!

"I blew her up, she blew my mind"

QUOTE

I blew up her body

But she blew my mind

*insert huge drum fill*

:guitar :rock

"my breath is insiiiiide you..."

hey wheelco: LOVE "if there is something"

especially these bits:

I would do anything for you

I would climb mountains

I would swim all the oceans blue

I would walk a thousand miles

Reveal my secrets

More than enough for me to share

I would put roses round our door

Sit in the garden

Growing potatoes by the score

Shake your hair girl with your ponytail

Takes me right back (when you were young)

Throw your precious gifts into the air

Watch them fall down (when you were young)

Lift up your feet and put them on the ground

You used to walk upon (when you were young)

SOARING VOCALS!

tin machine performed this on saturday night live once. there aren't many people who can pull off a roxy cover. david bowie is one of them. :worship ...one of them... :ninja

I got turned on to them around 1984 or '85 by the same friend who introduced me to Brian Eno's solo stuff. Those were some great people: Bryan Ferry, Eno, Phil Manzanera ... I've always loved Country Life and the Greatest Hits package, especially Love Is The Drug, All I Want Is You, Out of the Blue, and, one of my all time favorites, A Song For Europe. Oh, and Mother of Pearl (which I once put on a mix tape entitled "All The Songs That Ever Mattered." :lol)
