awatt
Just want to say Pneumonia is really growing on me. I'll continue to work my way through the Adams catalog.
MattZ
This is just a bad dream. That's what this is. The smallest venue that Wilco will ever play in NYC or the smallest venue that Ryan Adams will ever play in NYC? Take your pick.
noyes
fuck.. that sucks.i already got my wilco tickets though and i've seen Ryan at Town Hall and at Tribeca Performing Arts Center.i'd rather go to Wilco at Warsaw anyway.think about it.. Wilco. at Warsaw. no balconies. just floor.crazy.
alison the wilca
i would choose ryan, actually, if I had to make that decision...
aricandover
i would choose ryan, actually, if I had to make that decision... after the Ryan show we saw the other night, I'd choose his show over wilco too. especially compared to the stuff from their recent webcasts. it's not bad, it's just kind of there. noyes
considering that i've seen Ryan at two generally intimate (Town Hall really isn't THAT big. well from floor seats at least) venuesi'd go with Wilco simply because one, I've never seen them before.and two, Wilco at Warsaw is the equivalent of Ryan at Hiro Ballroom as far as what constitutes intimacy goes.i just wish it wasn't on the same day. Atticus
is there an easy way to navigate through the ryan adams torrent site? gawd what a cluster...
Azzurri
New York folks ... just announced: Tue Jun 26 '07 (8:00PM)Hiro BallroomNew York, NY No ticket info, but that place is tiny. how do you know when/where to get tickets for this? is it going to be some secret password/fansite bullshit? noyes
ryan's playing on the edge now. http://www.edge102.com/live/
DAngerer09
think about it.. Wilco. at Warsaw. no balconies. just floor.crazy. I think the best venue I have seen Wilco at would be the student center at West Virginia University (The Mountainlair Ballroom). I wasn't expecting much from a tiny college student center as the venue, but it was great. The place was small and all floor. Plus it was just Wilco, no opener. ("An Evening With Wilco" as Jeff called it). It was terrific, but I'm sure it is no Warsaw. I read on Pitchfork today Ryan Adams added a few more dates. He is playing Louisville on July 11. I just started listening to him a few months ago and I'm really tempted to go. It would be worth it right? How much do tix usually run for his shows?
Analogman
Yes, but they should have played at The Met Theater instead.
noyes
around 30 to 35 or so. i forgot, he also said on the radio this week that he's going everywhere twice this year, so i'm sure he'll be back in NYC definitely before 2008.i definitely wanna hear this Hiro Ballroom show if anyone records it though.
DAngerer09
Yeah I thought it was strange he was playing Louisville again, since he just played there in the Spring, I think.
airtaco
Already growing on second listen. Still don't see it reaching even my top five fav RA records, but I can see it getting a 7/10. Would love to get into the Hiro Ballroom show, though. We'll see.....

MattZ
After what Ryan pulled the last time he was in NYC (storming off the stage for the closing night of a 3 night run at Town Hall an hour before curfew), I promised myself that I wouldn't get sucked in again. But, these new songs, his voice, this band, the reviews of the current tour from folks on here, etc. Hiro Ballroom?? It is mind-boggling to me that I have tix to Wilco at Warsaw (basically the one show any NYC fan could have asked for) and I am considering trying to get tickets to see Ryan Adams. Unf*ckingbelieveable.

Unf*ckingbelieveable. i feel for you mate, i really do. i have seen both wilco and ryan on their current tours (shepherds bush and bbc/koko respectively) and both were perhaps the best live musical experiences i have attended to date. however, the intimate/acoustic set-up with the cardinals is defnately a once in a lifetime experience. ryan has never sounded better and the song selection the cardinals are currently playing with this set-up is mind bending. the new songs are sounding great acoustic and an emotionally charged dear john/carolina rain/ blue hotel/goodnight hollywood boulevard is enough to make a man drool! it's an almost impossible choice. why not leave it to the gods of fate...do you have a magic eight ball?!? airtaco
From alt-country.org (essentially the new ryanadams.org): An anonymous poster on Brooklyn Vegan says that it's a private gig - which I had come to suspect - and that it was HR's fuckup to list it."" May solve some problems for your Warsaw people...
noyes
hahaha. i just read that.i really really hope it's true.there was no doubt that i was sticking to my Wilco ticket (are you kidding me?)but was hoping someone would record the Hiro show.i guess now i don't have to worry about it. lifts a lot of weight off. imsjry
After what Ryan pulled the last time he was in NYC (storming off the stage for the closing night of a 3 night run at Town Hall an hour before curfew), First of all, are you sure he "stormed off the stage"? I mean, I heard all this stuff about that show but when I listen to it on the Archive site it sounds wonderful and Ryan never sounds angry or anything. I mean, movies can be 3 or 4 hours long but if one if only 90 minutes, does that mean it sucks by default?? It just seems like many people need controversy where this guy is involved and I don't get it.

Adams never created any controversy.
MattZ
are you sure he "stormed off the stage"? I mean, I heard all this stuff about that show but when I listen to it on the Archive Am I sure? I dont know how to answer that. He was being heckled by the crowd. He yelled back at the crowd. And he was up and walking away from the piano as he was hitting the last chord in Rescue Blues in the encore. He looked like he couldn't wait to get off the stage. And he walked right off and seemed pissed. On my way out, I spoke to the ushers and security at the venue and they were very surprised that the show ended when it did. They said he had been planning to play for a full hour longer. And this was the last show of a three night run. Yes, your recording sounded wonderful because it was wonderful. It started as the best night out of the three he played. I was at all three. But it started going downhill and it went downhill quickly in the second set. Sorry you can't tell it from listening to the Archive. not sure what to tell you. Maybe you had to be there. Not everyone is looking for a controversey. I would have been much happier without one.
