I'm going to Boston later this summer.

A head's up if you don't already know: pre-sale starts tomorrow and they will be offering a special 2-day ticket for $55 (as opposed to $35 for an individual for Sat. or Sun.).

On Sunday we're heading up north a ways to a cottage on a tiny lake, where we'll stay, blissfully oblivious to the world, for a whole week.

We're not even leaving Michigan...

on a private beach in michigan, huh? cool.

i walked the section of a.t. from dick's creek gap to fontana dam about three weeks ago with three good buddies. i've now completed the a.t. through the smokies. 260 some-odd miles on foot with 25 lbs on yer back seems like a pretty big accomplishment, but looking at it on a map sure is discouraging. i'll get to maine one day. no rush.

other than that, my backyard. we're pretty broke seeing as how my wife just graduated from college and is now trying to find employment.

happy vacations to everyone.

Don't worry Cryptique, we're not leaving Michigan either...

Jason's parents have a cabin/cottage up north and we will be spending a week or so there. Also making day trips from there to the Leelanau Peninsula and to Mackinaw City.

It's probably going to be in August. One of my best friends is enrolled at Harvard, so I'm staying with him, and his wife.

It's really just a trip to see the Fenway again. Boston is my favorite city. I love just love it.

Going to Banff in the Canadian Rockies for a week in September.

My husband and I spent some time in Banff on our honeymoon. September is a wonderful time to visit the Rockies, but it is also mating season for the elk. We had to listen to a horny bull bugling outside our cabin all night when we were staying at the Jasper Park Lodge. I can still picture him standing under the street lamp, "Heyyyy ladies!"

In the blue Canadian Rockies

Spring is silent through the trees

And the golden poppies are blooming

Round the banks of Lake Louise

This year it's all local vacations:

Up to Winter Park for a week starting Saturday. My old man and step-mom fly in from VT.

Lake Dillon (about an hour west of Denver) towards the end of July. We rent a nice, enormous house out there each summer and my wife's sister, brother-in-law and their kids drive out from San Diego. Always a huge blast. They're freaks, after all.

The Lyons, CO Folk's Fest in mid-August. Camping out, great tunes, great beer, great friends.

Wife and I will be heading to grayton beach FLA in Aug. Big trip witht eh fam...lots of fun. Lammy, any must does for a person new to Denver would be greatly appreciated. lake Dillon sounds great as does that folk fest. Got my tix for the sat filmore show too.

Any time you can head up to the mountains, do so. It can get pretty baking hot in the city (not humid, per se, but just lethargic hot).

I'd get a State Parks pass (around $70 I believe):

Definitely head up to Rocky Mountain National park for the day (or you can camp out up there if that's your thing). Head up to Estes Park and there's an entrance to it from there. Gorgeous sites/views, lots of wildlife, and better temperatures.

Mt. Evans is a nice drive, too. Accessible through Idaho Springs area.

Cherry Creek State Park is nice for the day, too. A decent place to swim/boat and it's local. They also have an off-leash dog-park area (over 160 acres) where you can hike around and even let the dogs swim.

The City Park Jazz series does free Sunday night concerts and offer great food deals, too. Right on a man-made lake and family friendly (though there have been gang-related issues of late. It's apparently being dealt with, though). Bring a bottle of wine if that's your thing, too.

Red Rocks does movie/band combination nights in the evenings throughout the summer that are fun, too.

NedFest (in the small hippie enclave of Nederland, just 45 minutes or so west of Denver) is always a blast, too. Very laid back, great setting, great beer. This year's line-up, so far:

A Rockies game is always fun, too. Nice mountain views in the background and decent food for a ballbark.

Pick up a Westword for festivals and events both in Denver and in mountain towns. There are tons of them and well worth the drive, usually.

heading to northern ireland & london for 3 weeks in august.

I was just in Belfast in November...awesome city and the murals are incredible. One pointer I did not realize so you know there are two types of punds used as currency. Northern Irish Pounds and British Pounds. Both worth the same but if you use the N. Irish pounds in England people willl look at you funny!

and for me...I am heading to Montreal (My third Canada trip this year!), Alaska, California, Kansas City and Omaha this summer.....
