Guest Jules
Yeah, speaking as a lifelong Bears fan, that's crazy talk. This Bears team isn't nearly as good as they were last year. And the Bears' and Packers' remaining schedules are pretty similar.I know I am being overly optimistic, but why are the Packers considered so great all of a sudden? They were 8-8 last year, including 4 meaningless wins at the end of the year. They have no running game (despite how they looked against the Bears poor 1st half effort on Sunday), and eventually Favre will be back to his flinging the ball around. It won't be pretty, as I agree on the offense's shortcomings, but if the Bears stay healthy on defense, I don't see why they can't win this division.
cryptique
if the Bears stay healthy on defenseToo late for that.
Guest Jules
Too late for that. The key people are what I am worried about, and they are all coming back (other than Mike Brown). They can't afford to lose any linebacker, Tommie Harris, or the corners for any extended period. I guess we'll see what happens.
Gobias Industries
You know, I kinda wanted the Bills to win. And then they pulled the I'm-a-dick-so-I'm-going-to-call-a-timeout-right-when-the-dude-kicks. And then they deserved to lose.

a.miller
For my fellow football fans: What does everyone think about coaches being able to call a timeout right as a field goal try is snapped? A perfect example was Monday night's game, Dallas vs. Buffalo. Seriously, imagine if a team kicked the winning field goal in a Super Bowl, only to have a late timeout called. The field goal gets tried again and is missed: riots in the streets. I think only players on the field should be allowed to call timeouts.
cryptique
I think only players on the field should be allowed to call timeouts. Then you'd just have a defensive player call a timeout right before the snap. Some columnist I read a while back suggested that they outlaw defensive timeouts on field goals after the play clock has ticked down under a certain point (15 seconds? 10 seconds?). I think that would solve the problem.
So Long
I also think that would solve the problem. Good call.

cryptique
Hmm, but what if the opposing coach realized that it was a fake and couldn't call the timeout in time? Shouldn't the defense always be prepared for a fake? I don't really see a problem here. go offsides. That doesn't help ... the play would continue and if the fake didn't work, the offense would just get another attempt five yards closer to the goal line (or even a first down). On the other hand, if you make contact when you cross the line of scrimmage, the refs will whistle the play dead right away. But you don't want to do that if it's a short-yardage situation.
