The Quasi-Official NHL Thread

man, my Bruins finally make it into the playoffs and we get Montreal.

lost every game to them this year, well, we got 1 point from an SO loss.

we got nothing to lose, so let's go get'em boys !

B's in 7

I would kinda like it if the B's beat the Habs. I work with WAY too many gloating Habs fans right now, and I have always kinda liked the Bruins, especially back in the Neely/Bourque days.

See,

I'm not gonna say I'm skeptical of the NHL...but the Bruins losing to the Habs every game this year and then beating them in the playoffs would make a better Sports Illustrated DVD...and a lot of money would be made if the underdogs won.

also, Halycon...are the Canuck's golf clubs in use yet...or too soon? (sorry, I had to)

Man that's exactly my reason for wanting the Avs to lose. :D

Too soon man, too soon :( Nah, I earned that, didn't I? But as you can see my avatar has clearly changed to a different "C". The great thing about where I live, is Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver are all pretty much the same distance away.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet!

This years playoffs are pretty unpredictable I figure but I'm going with Pittsburgh and Montreal in the east and San Jose and Detroit in the west. Both the two top seeds but I think they really are the best teams.

Montreal vs. San Jose in the final. San Jose for the cup.

Wings are too beat up and I don't believe in their goal tending. In the west I think Colorado, San Jose, Anaheim or even Calgary* could come out... the Red Wings... I dunno.

*There seems to be two Calgary's, the totally awesome Calgary and the not-so awesome Calgary, if they can stay their awesome selves then I think they'll be a powerful force.

What is the lowest seeding to make a SC final? Didn't an 8 make it a few years back?

Edmonton was an 8th in 06 and did it.

Nope, not forgetting no one.

Just kidding. The Wild too. I think we can safely say that the only team that won't make the finals in the west is the Hamilton I mean Seattle oops I meant Winnipeg wait-- I actually meant to say Nashville Predators.

What a great first day of the play offs for teams I like... 9 minutes left in the 3rd and Calgary leads San Jose 3-1. The evil Avs have beat the even more evil Wild. And Malkin + Crosby + Hossa + those other guys beat Ottawa (no surprise).

Yes, the Wild lost, but it was a great game. Good hitting, great goaltending, and then the heartbreaker by Sakic in OT. It's shaping up to be a good series.

A little surprised at Ottawa. That team is like an ECHL team without Alfredsson in the line-up. Not really showing alot of character, those Sens.

This team has been playing that way since at least December. With Alfredsson in the lineup (and Fischer as well), the way they have played in 08 might have taken the Penguins to 6 - at best. Without them, they'll be lucky to win a game. This team would have been much better off missing the playoffs. Then there would be no doubt that they need a serious heart transplant.

Bruins v. MON was always the set-up when we played either pond hockey or street/driveway hockey. I'll be rooting for the Bs but really, I don't think it'll be very close. Montreal is a much better team.

The Avs game last night was exciting with the OT win and I'll root for COl but I don't think they stand much of a chance against MIN the rest of the series, either.

Team to beat seems to be San Jose for the whole shebang, eh?

There are 4 or 5 teams in the west that can beat anybody in the east (ie Pittsburgh or Montreal). I think SJ is the team but they'll have to get by Calgary and the others....

Same here. My cousins, all of our friends and I would be the Bruins, and the little brothers of everyone would be the Canadiens...granted, we were all under the age of 11.

You guys were pretty load, gave the Canadien fans a run for their money. Thomas was really good, if this series goes to 6 games it'll be because of him for sure.

What about Calgary, getting scored on three times in the opening minutes and then coming back and winning the game? That was inspiring.

Carey Price is actually from a town very close to my home town. He's a legend round these parts.

Did anyone see that shit Avery pulled the other night? That pisses me off a lot. Ruins the integrity of the game.

Anyways... The Canucks owner fired Dave Nonis (the GM) today. Ugh, this could be bad. I know we didn't make the playoffs this year but he's done us a lot of good, we have one of the best defensive cores in the league (that sadly didn't all get to play together this year due to injuries), got the best goalie in the league for next to something, and we have a lot of depth in prospects. Plus, in 06-07 we had more wins then in any previous season. This season wasn't our best but Nonis deserved on more year. Owners worry me... a lot. But who knows, this could be a real good thing. There will be a press conference tomorrow morning and rumours have it that my hero Trevor Linden will be there and he'll be "wearing a suit" next season.
