Hot Stove League '07-'08

I'm still curious to what extent the report will blame management, ownership, etc. or if all of the blame will be placed on the players.

The blame should always come down on players first and foremost. Whatever involvement the others have will have their own punishment. No one can force you to do steriods.

I don't think there is any confirmation yet, just reports from people who claim to have seen the report.

One of these claims cites Jason Varitek on the list, as well. The list won't be made public for a couple more hours.

No, just like we shouldn't do it to Bonds'.

I've long since suspected Clemens was on roids. That's not surprising at all.

Here's a list I've seen floating around, for what it's worth:

"Brady Anderson, Manny Alexander, Rick Ankiel, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Aaron Boone, Rafaeil Bettancourt, Bret Boone, Milton Bradley, David Bell, Dante Bichette, Albert Belle, Paul Byrd, Wil Cordero, Ken Caminiti, Mike Cameron, Ramon Castro, Jose and Ozzie Canseco, Roger Clemens, Paxton Crawford, Wilson Delgado, Lenny Dykstra, Johnny Damon, Carl Everett, Kyle Farnsoworth, Ryan Franklin, Rich Garces, Jason Grimsley, Troy Glaus, Juan Gonzalez, Eric Gagne, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons, Juan Gonzalez, Clay Hensley, Jerry Hairston, Felix Heredia, Jr., Darren Holmes, Wally Joyner, Darryl Kile, Matt Lawton, Raul Mondesi, Mark McGwire, Guillermo Mota, Robert Machado, Damian Moss, Abraham Nunez, Trot Nixon, Jose Offerman, Andy Pettitte, Mark Pior, Neifi Perez, Rafael Palmiero, Albert Pujols, Brian Roberts,Juan Rincon, John Rocker, Pudge Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Scott Schoenweiis, David Segui, Alex Sanchez, Gary Sheffield, Miguel Tejada, Julian Tavarez, Fernando Tatis, Maurice Vaughn, Jason Varitek, Ismael Valdez, Matt Williams and Kerry Wood."

No real suprises on that list, but say it ain't so, Jay Gibbons.

For what it's worth, CNBC has said that this list is bogus and is revising it. Heck, the least they could have done is spelled the names correctly.

Sure, no one was forced to do steroids. But when owners/management ignored steroid use, and handed out giant contracts to guys who benefited from steroid use, they clearly encouraged other guys to do it. Sure, they didn't give them the steroids, they didn't explicitly tell them to use them, but by allowing it to go on, they condoned it. The big money guys could make more money by using, and the more marginal players could help themselves to make a roster spot that they may otherwise be struggling for. Management has to take some of the blame for allowing the drug culture to flourish.

The BBPA, ownership, management, the Commissioner's Office, etc. are certainly all culpable to an extent, but the cheaters who will be exposed ultimately have no one but themselves to blame and that is where the onus deservedly should lie for the most part.

To exonerate them simply because it was a wink-wink culture for a long time wouldn't be just to those players who did not use/cheat. Everyone involved had a choice to make. Not every player used.

Astros pick up Tejada for 3-4 players. I wonder if they should've waited until Friday?

Can the O's just go ahead and register as a minor-league club now? I know Tejada wanted out and I don't blame him, so good for him. (will be interesting to see the Astros' response to his name on the list--not the greatest first impression to the new fans) And now the O's have a handful of new scrawny 23 year olds that they can "pump up" with the kind of low-end steroids that they've been giving to Jay Gibbons and Brian Roberts.

I mean, seriously, if those guys are going to be "on the list" too, they could have at least used the good shit like Brady Anderson got back in the day. These guys--hell, I had a really bad sore throat last year and the doc game me some steroids to take for a few days and I'm pretty sure I bulked up bigger than both of those guys, combined!!1 :lol I'm just sayin'...

I agree. I don't think the players should be let off the hook because their owners were complicit. I just think the owners should take the blame that is due to them as well. There's plenty to go around.

i'm considering not watching a single major league baseball game this year because of all this shit. this is just pathetic. the players, teams, league officials, everyone, should be ashamed of how this problem progressed. a bunch of greedy, pathetic fucks.

Clemens is a big part of the report. Lots of info on him.

No Pujols. No Sosa. No Nomar. No Varitek. No Trot Nixon.

Pettitte, Kevin Brown and Gagne make the report, though. As do Brian Roberts, Manny Alexander, Tejada, and Brendan Donnelly.

That list was way off.

I'm just skimming now. Really bummed about Rondell White. Tejada is the only big name I've come across so far. And Paul LoDuca, if you consider him to be a big name.

All Stars:

Sheffield, Tejada, Clemens, Pettite, Brian Roberts, Lenny Dykstra, Jason Giambi, Todd Hundley, Eric Gagne, Chuck Knoblauch, David Justice, Mo Vaughn, Denny Neagle, Mike Stanton, Paul Lo Duca, Fernando Vina, Kevin Brown, Brendan Donnelly.

And you have to think the list would be even bigger if they had talked to more than just Radmonski. It seems like him and McNamee are the only sources. If those 2 are the only sources and they got this list, imagine what they could find if more people were willing to cooperate.

Tejada has been named as a user.

Find somebody from the O's in the last decade that isn't on the list.

As part of an anti-steroids campaign, as a pre-game ritual, every MLB player before exiting the tunnel onto the field should be required to touch a poster depicting the entire O's roster injecting steroids into their asses juxtaposed against a graphic showing their cumulative W-L record this decade. The caption a the bottom, in bigass red letters should read: DON'T PLAY LIKE AN ORIOLE TODAY.

Steroid problem solved.
