quarter23cd
Road Trips: Volume 1 Number 2Heh. You know, I recently bought Vol 1.1 and don't really care for it and so I was kind of meh on this Road Trips series thing......although damn that does look like a better set. We'll see. There are still so many DPs (not to mention the free stuff out there) that I haven't heard yet that unless I hear raves about this, I don't think it is at the top of my priority list. mountain bed
30 years ago today: 2/5/78 - Uni-Dome, Cedar Falls, IA I: Bertha > Good Lovin', BE Women, El Paso, T. Jed, Sunrise, Minglewood, FOTD, Passenger, Deal II: Scarlet > Fire, Samson, Ship, Truckin' > Drums > O1 > W. Rat > Around E: U.S. Blues Available as Dick's Picks #18. The ScarFire is easily a top 10 for the Kieth and Donna era. I'm real partial to the Around as well... this was when they went to double-time at the end, bring it down to a whisper, then BAM back to a loud rockin' ending. Bust it out if you have it! Yeah a good show(s) if you listen real closely during the first couple of minutes of "Eyes" on that DP (from the night in Madison, WI) there is an amazing run of Garcia cranking out what sounds like about 100 notes in about 3 seconds. Just crazy/scarry playing

mountain bed
I'd just like to say that Charlie Miller is one of the most righteous Heads that ever was. I've got some stuff from him that was just amazing.

NightOfJoy
Yeah, Miller rocks. He's tireless in his efforts. Last weekend I was listening to 2/14/68-not Charlies clean up version but good enough-and that feedback towards the end of the show more or less melted my face off. Cripes, the 'X' factor was in force that night......wish I could find more shows with an ending like that!

I think we've discussed this here before but I'm pretty sure that was the infamous "Jerry throws Phil down the stairs" show.

Lammycat
I recently got ahold of sbds of a Nassau run from fall '79 that're just fantastic. I listened to the 10-31-79 on the way to work today and the China->Rider jam is right on it. Different from the greatness of the 73/74 Feelin' Groovy jams that I love but more intense. The "Passenger"s from this time slay, too. Brent had been in the band about a half year at this point and is full-on enjoying sharing the stage.
Analogman
What's the deal on the show I heard about recently where Brent had some sort of meltdown? It's up at archive.org.

Lammycat
I am trying to recall where I read it - Grateful Dead Live at Berkeley Community Theater on 1986-04-21 I think this is it.Yeah, that's the "Maybe You Know" where everyone but a drummer or two left the stage and Brent sings it really slowly and emotionally. I've got it at home and I believe he drops an f-bomb in it, too. Kind of a strange and perhaps inhebriated version. The only time he did it at that tempo, too.
