Easily the best thing in this thread.

It's been posted before. I sort of like debate - as long as we don't end up fighting. We mainly just post the same BS here over and over again, year after year anyhow.

It was all over some new Dylan song

That Phil had the nerve to say sounded wrong

Dylan stopped the car, words shook like a fist

"Phil, you ain't a writer, you're a journalist"

Death of a rebel, twist of fate

If he ever thought better, he thought too late

Poor Phil Ochs, he slipped through the cracks

Judas went electric and he never looked back on....

Followed that "Thin Wild Mercury."

Sorry, I just woke from my lunch nap, and realised I was still at work.

Some live videos of songs off of the new Dylan's new album.

Thanks for the link. Jakob's new gig uses the Wilco lucky carpet trick, so I predict they'll be hugely successful, in an obscure unknown sort of way.

That's good stuff Oman, but where does Bob Hunter fit in to all of this?

Secret weapons of mass detsruction! Glory over the fame......read below.

Bob Weir use to carry a Dylan song book on him at all times.

The who influenced who question is a double sided sword. Yes, Townes was influenced by Dylan and the same can go for Dylan the other way around. Everyone was playing and pickin' with each other during the uprising of folk music. That romantic period has long been gone for a period of time now until recently. We are finaly getting back to basics, playing for the pure joy of it and helping your fellow brother or sister out. Look at Jim James, Gillian, Conor, Ward, and others, they will drop what they are doing at any point to record or play with each other. If Townes was still alive he would be doing the same, and I can't say that for Jeff or Dylan on that matter. That's a damn shame, Tweedy has been burned before and I see where he is coming from, but man, if he would join the circus of fun outside of Wilco, his horizon would be endless. I love and cherish both of these fella's and call them both influences on myself, but by no means would I define myself by either one. If it wasn't for my writting partners, I'm not sure where I would be, and I know for damn sure my creative ability would be diminished. I really hope this movement is here to stay. I thank Jim James for alot of things, even if your not a fan, I can asure you he has touched the hands of some one you admire. He like Townes was an angel sent from above to lead and gather others to share the glory of music.

"Take the glory over the fame" - Lucinda Williams

"Bound for glory" - Woody Guthrie

Just an update. I bought and have been listening to some of Dylan's better known, earlier albums. I've watched the documentaries No Direction Home and Don't Look Back, and I am currently reading Bob Dylan-Chronicles volume one. He was/is pretty cool, but I still think Tweedy's better.

What do we make of the fact that Tweedy is being beat by a 3 to 1 margin on a message board dedicated to his band?

... that he hasn't created enough member names to make it more equitable?

:stunned

The fact that it would be about a 20 to 1 margin if this were on any other band's message board. :)

Dylan has like 30 songs that are way better than any Tweedy songs imo. BUT Dylan also has like 400 songs that are just terrible where as Tweedy doesn't have any terrible songs if you ask me.

I don't think this is even close (yet) either, but that is a really good point (although it still doesn't make it close).

Also, if we're talking straight lyrics, I'll take Guthrie's Mountain Bed against anything by Mr. Tweedy or Dylan (insert Jon Stewart's: "no disrespect" comment in comically thick NY accent).

well said.

I have to agree with those stating Tweedy is my favorite - always loved Dylan, but it is in some ways a personal thing. Whose lyrics or music affected you the most or seemed to speak to you. Hands down for me, JT.
