poppydawn
So you could have had one of Mick's kids? I might have been okay with that, aside from the STDs I probably would have contracted. Putting out for the rather creepy co-worker of mine who was old enough to be my dad (and yet, younger than Mick) in exchange for a ticket was out of the question. I have my standards. I could have seen The Stones on the Steel Wheels tour - I would have liked to seen this tour: A great song about women. ha ha I have that whole film on dvd.
people are leaving
I can get you those Zeppelin shows - if you need them. Nice, thanks. You read my mind. What's the quality like ? I can post some backstage photos of Day 1 that my older brother took. ( I need to scan'em)....and Day 2 (not so good 30 yards back upfront) I remember waiting at least 3 hours in the heat for Zep to take the stage and getting squished in the process. I'll never forget the PA announcer coming on apologizing for the delay cos Page was having some trouble with "his double-neck" guitar. What a canard. Little did we know they were threatening NOT to play if Bill Graham didn't sign a waiver releasing them of any liabilty cos Bonham pummeled one of their staff and put him in the hospital. I'm sure you know the story. I have that whole film on dvd. The Tumbling Dice 72 Tour ????????????

I'm sure you know the story. That was because they messed with Peter Grant's son. If you do - can I post them on the LZ board I am on? I have not heard the shows, but I have access to a couple hundred LZ shows at the moment - so I checked the list, and they were there. Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones Speaking of that - I recently, finally got my hands on Wings Over America (Rockshow) in DVD form.

(There's one with Jimmy standing right next to Bill Graham right before they played) Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones Ah, ok.They use to show it at the UC Theatre on University in Berkeley years ago. I see it's still not available. Mick Taylor on guitar. (sweet) Have you heard this A+ recording ?http://conqueror-of-the-moon.blogspot.com/...air-101773.html
Analogman
I think I have seen that show up at dime a dozen or somewhere. I wish they put out that film - officially. What I have is pretty good - but it could be better.

tangara
I saw a legend that I had no idea was a legend until he started playing: Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham They opened for Nick Lowe about 10 years ago when I saw him at the Park West (Chicago) and, although their names sounded familiar, I had no idea what I was in for. You may know Spooner from Neil Young's Harvest band. But Dan is the songwriter who brought you such classics as "Cry Like a Baby" (The Box Tops), "Cry Like a Man" (The Purify Brothers), "Dark End Of the Street" (Aretha Franklin/The Commitments/Flying Burrito Brothers), "Do Right Woman/Do Right Man" (Aretha Franklin), and too many more. I sat there in awe, stunned that what I was watching was a performance by a man who was nothing less than a national treasure. Awesome. Spooner's currently (well, occasionally) touring with the Drive-By Truckers. I'd label him a national treasure, too.

So far, I have grabbed Osaka 71, LA 70, Earls Court 75, and NY 75. I have a giant list put together by some folks what shows are the best to get and whatnot. I could post in the last Led Zeppelin thread if there is interest.

Knepps
I've been to a lot of shows in my (short) time, and I've seen some legends, just not in their prime. I will say my most special show is seeing Bruce Springsteen w/E street band playing about a half an hour with REM, NEIL YOUNG, John Fogarty, and Bright Eyes and being 2nd row was pretty mind blowing. Oh and I get to see my 2nd beatles when I see Ringo next monday!
Shakey
I saw Hendrix in 1970 on the University of Oklahoma campus. What I remember was getting very stoned.

quarter23cd
In 1994, when the Stones played college stadiums, I sat on the hood of my car outside my apartment two blocks from the stadium and listened to the show. Too broke to buy an actual ticket. I was offered a free ticket to a show on their '97 tour but, 1) I didn't have much interest in seeing them, and 2) I was pretty sure I was expected to put out and it wasn't worth that. Yuck.I skipped my senior prom in '94 to camp out for tickets to the Stones at RFK. In an ironic contrast to your story, I missed out on all the putting-out going on after the prom in order to sit in a parking lot all night with a whole bunch of people who were old enough to be my parents. The concert was just ok, but I still think I made the right choice--the camping out turned out to be a pretty memorable experience in itself and time revealed that the one night of HS revelry I missed was nothing compared to the 4-5 year continuous fiesta of college. NightOfJoy
tony bennett - 80-81 - venetian room - sf That reminds me.......I worked as an usher at Drury Lane in highschool (mid 80s) and got to see Tony Bennett, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Cloney and a couple other oldtime whitebread acts like that. At the time, I was heavily into Judas Priest and Dio, etc.....so these performers bored and mortified me.
jff
I saw Jerry Lee Lewis 10 years ago at a huge suburban country & western nightclub inside what was once a K-Mart. He started two hours after the opening band had finished. He was playing a cheesy keyboard with a wooden thing in front of it that I think was supposed to make it look like a baby grand piano. Probably the most disappointing concert of my life.

Lammycat
Let's see what's changed since this thread started? I caught Bieber on You Tube when he was just cutting his teeth on world dominance.
PopTodd
Lots of Uncle Tupelo/early Wilco/early Son Volt shows when I was a student at MU-Columbia in the early '90s. Sadly, I don't remember much in the way of details. At the time they were bar bands I liked and I didn't think much beyond that.I saw them on Halloween, 1989 at the old Blue Note location -- opening for fIREHOSE.Were you there for that one?Are you still even on the boards here? worldrecordplayer
I always wondered what it was like to see these legends in concerts. I know there are some people who may have had opportunities and I wonder what it was like..any stories would be fun to hear. Any get to see.. The BeatlesEarly Rolling StonesJimi HendrixThe DoorsEarly REM, U2 or The CureWoodstockElvisMiles Davis Others?Saw the Cure at a tiny club in Boston, the Underground. Must have been somewhere '79-81 I would say. About 500 people there. Saw REM in the Harvard gym with Husker Du opening (which we skipped). I think that was the first time I saw them. Saw the Ramones upstairs in Max's Kansas City, not many people in the room.
