fatheadfred
I'm very worried about Russia, Venezuala, and Iran invading the United States. We continue to put ourselves in a vulnerable position. Russia to the west, Venezuela, to the south. If they get China on board consider yourself working in a sweatshop or dead.
bobbob1313
If the United States were invaded by Venezuala, Russia, and Iran, the military (and civilians) would mobilize so fast that it wouldn't be a problem. Americans are pretty good at getting their shit together when it matters, and in your completely far fetched scenario, it would matter.  That said, the amount of troops needed to invade the United States is such a great number that it's not even worth discussing. Logistically speaking, this is a nearly impossible country to invade. You have to travel over the sea thousands of miles both ways, or cross through a gigantic tundra or a bunch of jungle. We're pretty good.

LouieB
I will go on record saying that as an Obama supporter and enthusiast I find his unflinching support of Israel and aggressive leanings towards Iran to be rather discomforting. He still has nothing on McCain's blood lust, but it's one issue where I don't agree with Obama. Actually, it's the first I've found. Not sure what you are saying here.... You think Obama is supportive of Israel?? I have an old friend (have talked about this before..sorry) who believes Obama (and his merry band of lefties such as Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayes( is out to destroy Israel and therefore he is voting McCain and this is destroying our friendship. I think you would have to say that Israel continues to bedevil everyone, supporters and sceptics alike. On the actual election front, we can only hope that despite all the polls to the contrary, Obama supporters are going to come out of the woodwork on election day and fuck up Fox News. LouieB

MattZ
I think Obama is handling this whole financial crisis WAY better than McCain. Is it sad that I was almost moved to tears watching his speech in Golden, CO? This is going to sound like I am splitting hairs here, but I think it's a stretch to say either of them are handling anything. They are both standing up and talking. I am an Obama supporter (like you), but it's incredibly easy for Obama to blame the "last 8 years" and to say that "4 more years" of McCain would bring more of this. And he's probably right. But I'd be interested to see what Obama actually proposes to do about this. Calling for more regulation and more oversight is easy to call for. It's tough to implement. You dont want to go so far as to stifle the market either (as regulation has a way of doing). So, Obama has got a layup here. I can't give him too much credit until I see some specifics (I have not seen the speech you referred to above -- does he give some there?). Then again, McCain was quoted today as saying that we should let AIG fail, so, I suppose Obama is doing a better "job" than McCain. I'll have to look into this, since the recent addition of Russia and its connection with Venezuela. I'll get back to you on this. War games.

War games. Iran and Venezuala don't have the resources to invade the united states and wouldn't dream of doing so. It would be a very quick and painless battle (as was the iraq war. Now, if we're talking about occupying, well, we're not so good at that).  Russia might just be crazy enough to try something, but I still think the old Cold War battle lines are enough to keep them at bay. And China probably wouldn't attack us for another 100 years. They still need us too much, economically.

Something about how they do nothing and then when something bad happens they scramble to make it look better. He also said how when asked for a solution to the housing crisis, John McCain said he didn't have one. I'm sure the speech will be out on YouTube later today. I wish I had more details, but I had 2 toddlers in the room with me and one was trying to play the Wii and kept hitting the video button on the tv.
fatheadfred
China vs. US 5x's ability to fight (people) In the event of war where do we get oil to fight the war since we rely on ships, planes, vehicles at a rate of 5 to 1 against China. China is able to produce more than us.  If you continue to add Iran, Venezuela, & Russia it gets scary. (oil, peeps, location) Kind of depends on who comes to our aid. We aren't doing so well here now. Check this out. Fun war game comparison, but doesn't allow multiple configurations. http://www.globalfirepower.com/countries_comparison.asp
bobbob1313
Our country is really quite good at mobilizing when it needs to. Hating our foreign policy is cool now, but if shit came down to it and we were looking at a war with China, people would be there.
