jenbobblehead
I need some closure on this mark texieira business.
mfwahl
I'll bet Nats. I'm waiting for closure on this Furcal thing, but that will be over a lot sooner than any Tex deal.
Guest Jules
I'll bet Nats. I'm waiting for closure on this Furcal thing, but that will be over a lot sooner than any Tex deal.I thought Furcal was going to Atlanta?
jenbobblehead
I thought Furcal was going to Atlanta?yes, that's what I thought too. There def has been talk of Tex in the Metro Area, as he grew up here and he's pretty devoted, but honestly, would you want to play for the worst team in baseball, when you could play for one of the best? In the best market in the country? While I would be supportive of him landing in Baltimore or Washington, he'd have to be freaking nutso to do so.
mfwahl
I thought Furcal was going to Atlanta? His agent says it's not done and is giving Dodgers time to make an offer. It will end today, though.
CrushOfVeils80
Tex is a good player but is he really worth all this money? Is he even in the top 5 at his position? Man, I need to hire Boras. He could land me and my 76 mph fastball and 78 mph change up a spot in someones rotation or bullpen.
Duck-Billed Catechist
Is he even in the top 5 at his position? He's close Team picture for best 1bs (including Tex) Pujols, Berkman, Fielder, Howard, Youklis, Cabrera, Votto, Morneau. Obviously Cabrera, Votto, and Fielder should have the arrow going up because of their age. Tex is in the prime of his career and should be plenty productive. I would take Tex over Morneau and probably Howard (because I worry that his drop in production may be permanent/a reflection of wearing down).
MattZ
my 76 mph fastball and 78 mph change up. This made me laugh. Although in fairness, my change-up and fastball are/were the same speed. The change-up just involved a lot of herky jerky over-exaggerated pitching motion to give the appearance of incoming speed.
mfwahl
I'm now thinking Furcal's agents played the Braves to get the Dodgers to increase their offer. Whatevs. Furcal's kind of a gamble anyway. We'll see. Has anyone seen a dollar figure on the Red Sox offer to Tex? I've seen 8 years but no dollar amount.
Duck-Billed Catechist
http://www.abc6.com/sports/36277274.html Rocco Baldelli may have been misdiagnosed, Ken Bell excited beyond belief
mfwahl
http://www.abc6.com/sports/36277274.html Rocco Baldelli may have been misdiagnosed, Ken Bell excited beyond beliefI tell ya, TV news stations shouldn't be allowed to have websites. All caps? Is PANTHER's real name Ken Bell? Rocco has clarified those earlier statements with more details here. http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/2008/12/baldelli-an-enc.html Oh, and it looks like Furcal's staying with the Dodgers. Those agents sure are crafty!!!
Lammycat
Has anyone seen a dollar figure on the Red Sox offer to Tex? I've seen 8 years but no dollar amount. It's believed to be in the neighborhood of the Nat's offer (8 yr./$160 MM). I can't see BOS going longer on the years but might go a bit deeper on the price.... Baldelli says no mis-diagnosis... Good news for him if it's treatable, too. BOS is looking into him still.http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/2008/12/baldelli-an-enc.html ed. oops, mfwahl beat me to it. bobbob1313
Tiexiera is arguably the best or 2nd best defensive 1B in baseball, and he's in the 5-7 range in terms of hitting. So yeah, he's worth a lot of money entering his prime. With the Tigers signing Matt Treanor, that gives them like 5 former Marlins. If them and the Mets meet in the WS that'd be like 12 former Marlins in one series.

rareair
Probably Pujols. Derek Lee is a better fielding first baseman than either pujols or texiera (imo).
