Was your town blown off by Wilco? Vent here!

Recommended Posts

Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC, but then again they usually play Charlotte, Asheville, or here, and switch off. Oh well, I'm traveling to Wolf Trap and Brooklyn.

and where are the Chicago complaints? I mean really

They haven't played Chicago since 8/2 at Lolla. And before that, they only played a measely 5 shows in 6 days in February. All we've had to hold us over since 8/2 were some Jeff solo shows in February.

Horseshit.

Wilco barley plays NJ but I make it work. California's problem is there is no mass transit...you should try to car pool and check out craigslist for lats minute tickets. I am sure you can shave off money that way. I am dreading going out to Brooklyn which may take me up to 2 hours to get to but it will be worth it!

i'm picking up a bit of sarcasm here. i hope.

amidst all of this discussion, let's not forget that everyone in wilco also has gigs outside of wilco, both performing and recording.

I'd like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to move to Ohio. We had a recent Wilco concert in Athens and one in Cincinnati very shortly. The state is beautiful and cost of living is probably half of what you pay. :)

(Oh and if you have any cheap Ohio cracks, I think we'll know who the real snob is. ;) )

We're spoiled around here. In addition to Athens and Cincy, there are also often shows in L'ville, Bloomington, Indy, C-bus. The upcoming show at the Aronoff Center will be my third Cincy show. Strangely enough though I drove nine hours to Philly the first time I saw Wilco. I was a broke grad student at the time so I don't think a six-figure salary is required. I think you just have to want it enough.

I just started to think of heading to the Cincy show (why I did not have this thought before - I don't know). They only have tickets left in the upper balcony, pretty much last row or so. I have never been to a show there. Would these ticket's be completely high up there (I'm thinking high up there like Auditorium Theater in Chicago balconies). Of course I am assuming that one of the times you saw Wilco in Cincinnati was at the Aronoff.

Well, as a fan also from San Diego let me just say that I (somewhat) share your grief.

I was really bummed when I realized they weren't coming here, but got kind of excited at the prospect of a road trip to either LA, Pomona, Tuscon or even Vegas!

Road trips to shows are the best, and in the past I've gone to Vegas, LA, San Francisco and even Denver to see a show!

However, funds being real tight right now I don't think I'm going to make any of these shows. :ohwell

I missed it last time they were here, and I guess I'm going to miss them again.

Don't want to drive the hellish two or four hours each way to L.A. to see a show (plus pay a scalper $50-plus for each ticket).

For two of us, it ends up being an eight-hour/$300-or-$400 night. Three times as much ugly driving as seeing the current lineup. Would've thought that with the economy the way it is, Wilco/High Road Touring would've reconsidered doing three nights at tiny (albeit fantastic) venues like the Wiltern in L.A. and hit more places. Their call, I suppose. In my book, it's somewhat anti-"fan" and snobby.

The way I see it, I would consider a 2-4 hour trip as nothing out of the ordinary to seen any band. In regards to the outlandish price of $50 per ticket, a little insider info here, instead of paying scalpers you could buy the tickets via presale. It cost you nothing, a generous move by the band I think. In my book, while you consider Wilco to be "ant fan" I dare to call you anti-Wilco

I've been blown off while listening to Wilco. Does that count? :D

:yes

Wilco will never come to my crap town (Spartanburg SC) but that's fine. Not really a live music city (unless you count pop has-beens playing in mall parking lots). Pretty lucky they come around as often as they do (Asheville 1 hour away), Charlotte (1 hour), Athens (2 hours), Charleston (3 hours). I'm normally pretty damn pumped after a show, so a three-hour drive helps me digest yet another killer experience.

I wish they would book a date for florida soon. I dont know why more people dont come here. We are a large state, that a lot of people live in, and it is a long drive to even get out of the state. I am in school and running up credit card debt already, so I cant afford more than a few hours drive and I cannot afford a hotel room and all of that (I live in tampa, Jacksonville and miami are pretty much my limits.). For the last time I saw them in august 2008, a friend and I made some sandwiches in a cooler and crashed with another friend in jacksonville. They have made it to florida for every tour since ive been a fan, so I will give them that, but I like the new album alot and hope I wont have to wait for a year and a half after the record comes out. but that is why i download shows to listen to...

other bands on the other hand, just completely ignore the market, so really I am just thankful wilco remembers us eventually.

Denver was blown off but they are still playing 20 min. up the road at Red Rocks. Still....

Ok, I used to live there, and you're joking right? Red Rocks counts as Denver, by any measure I can think of (other than actual city limits).

So I have been a Wilco fan living in central Illinois for many a year and the guys rarely come down here. The one time I spend any time in chicago is the tour they choose to completely neglect their home town! (I'm spending July in chicago doing an internship.)

Its totally my luck but :ohwell maybe I can make the listening party...

I did see them at the Aronoff their last time thru. My seats were in the loge level though - good seats but not as high up or far back as what you say is left.

When it comes to Wilco though is there really a bad seat? As long as I'm in the same room it's good.

Was waiting for them to possibly add shows. In the meantime, the tickets to tiny little places like Pomona sold out. I don't know why any bands encourage driving long distances. I consider that to be anti-fan (and pro-carbon). Go ahead and play small places. Just don't let it be at the expense of missing population centers. Or make it for some little non-album tour.

The album will be released on June 30, and we know tour dates through August. It's not as though this is the W(ta) tour in its entirety.

I wear out I-35 going to Dallas for concerts and sporting events. So you can come to OKC once. June 15. It's only 3 hours away. Tickets are still available. I'll buy you a beer. Deal?

Ok - I've had this on my chest for a while. When the Neil Young/Wilco/Everest tour was annouced, Wilco was only for Eastern Canada/United States. But not Newfoundland, where my husband and I were both raised and still have family/baby-sitters. Sigh. We currently reside in Edmonton, but Neil was only playing in Calgary (3 hour drive/hotel/babysitter). Plus we really wanted to see Wilco so we compromised on Montreal, as we had family there with a recent new addition, other family who offered to baby-sit our 2 little kids, and a free place to crash. After a multitude of redeemed airmiles, additional car rental expenses, etc... it was an awesome experience (dampened only slightly by a bit too much beer at the show - hey! it was our first night without the kids in a year). About a month or two after that, Neil announced dates for - hold your breath - St. John's, Newfoundland and Edmonton, Alberta. (Nice to know we live in an afterthought - sorry just a smidge bitter).

But we got to see Wilco and our family, which made hubby and myself very happy.

I have a feeling Toronto is going to be neglected for a while. No idea what we did to piss 'em off, but I guess Wilco is joining the ever-growing list of American acts who don't play here anymore. Hrm. I guess it makes sense to skip a small town of only several million people, though. The crowd would probably end up being really small.

I absolutely cannot wait for my three hour drive to see the band July 19th. That's enough time to make a serious dent in their catalogue on the way there. This is Wilco day for me, a quick trip there and back would really not be good enough. And the ticket price? Come on, this has to be one of my biggest concert bargains in years. Crazy topic.
