I just saw this thread now - nice resurrection, people!

Suites: so jealous of you seeing Live Aid. Holy crap.

1. First Concert, when?

I think it was the Beach Boys at the Wisconsin State Fair in 1988. Eight years old. We had seats (meaning, sitting spots) on the track. It was about 100 degrees and the Beach Boys were late coming on. I liked the Beach Boys, so I liked the show, but I had mild heat exhaustion beforehand and needed to be taken to the restroom so my mom could wet down my clothes with cold water.

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

U2, Soldier Field, 1997. PopMart tour.

(First concert I really wanted to go to and didn't: New Kids on the Block. Magic Summer Tour. 1990. Dammit.)

3. Favorite Band?

I'd say Wilco.

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

I truly don't know. But I've been seeing them for a good nine years now, I live near Chicago, and I'm not afraid to travel.

5. Worst concert you attended?

Radiohead at Alpine Valley, 2003. The show itself was good, I think, but stuff happened surrounding that show that still make me bitter in recalling it. Ha.

6. Favorite?

Either Jeff Tweedy solo at the Vic on 1/9/03, or U2 at the United Center on 5/16/2001

7. Band you have seen the most?

Wilco

8. How many times?

See #4

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Pittsburgh, about 9 hours. I can't believe we didn't fly.

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

Wellington, NZ. Saw both Wilco and Split Enz there.

11. How many concerts have you seen?

Hundreds, probably not up to 1,000 yet. I average a handful per month.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

I think I paid a lot for Bridge School Benefit tickets in 2008. Maybe $125? I've paid $250 for a hockey ticket against the glass (on TM, not through a scalper). Blackhawks vs. Red Wings. Fantastic.

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

Is Yep Roc major? There were like 20 people at the Majestic last October on a Sunday night to see Liam Finn and Eliza-Jane. It was a travesty.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

The Beatles? If we're only listing things that could one day happen, I still haven't managed to see M. Ward. I get to most shows I really want to see.

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

I decline to comment

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

Oh dear god. I won tickets to see Yonder Mountain String Band about eight years ago. They must have played at least four hours. I wanted to die. I have no idea why we didn't leave.

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

I saw Grandaddy play at the House of Blues in Chicago with two openers. There was very poor planning, because the curfew was either 10 or 10:30 p.m. (Sunday night) ... but they started at the usual time and the openers played their full sets. Grandaddy had about 35 minutes before they had to stop.

1. First Concert, when?

Robert Plant, 8/27/83

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

See #1

3. Favorite Band?

Beatles

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

Zero (they stopped playing live shows two years before I was born)

5. Worst concert you attended?

Shannon Wright, Schuba's, Chicago, circa 2000. She was absolutely horrid. I went to the show because I loved her old band Crowsdell, but her solo thing was intolerable and we walked out after a few songs. That said, the opening band was great (The Waxwings).

6. Favorite?

Hard to pick one. Elvis Costello & The Attractions (1996) comes to mind. Pixies in 1990 were amazing. Graham Parker & The Rumour (1988) are a strong candidate. And then there's Big Star at Metro in Chicago. But possibly the most mind-blowing show I ever saw was Spacehog playing at a TINY club in Kalamazoo, Michigan (the late, great Club Soda) while touring on The Chinese Album. The place was packed wall-to-wall and the band was insanely great.

7. Band you have seen the most?

Elvis Costello with various backing bands (including once with the Attractions)

8. How many times?

Um ... six? Maybe only five

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Ann Arbor to Chicago for a Jeff Tweedy Living Room Show. I'm not typically someone who goes to extremes to see a show.

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

Saw two in London: The Jesus & Mary Chain, Brixton Academy, and Graham Parker & The Rumour, Town & Country Club

11. How many concerts have you seen?

No idea. Hundreds.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

Approx. $250 for second row center at CSN&Y

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

Probably the Jayhawks in 1993 at the State Theatre in Kalamazoo, MI. I'd be surprised if there were more than a hundred people there.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

Of the ones that are still theoretically possible, at least in some form: Kinks, Led Zeppelin

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

Backstage for Billy Bragg and Robyn Hitchcock. I've also worked camera and/or technical jobs for pre-show backstage interviews with Phish, John Flansburgh (Linnell was taking a nap), Weird Al, and a few others. Talked to a lot of artists after shows, though not backstage.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

Not sure. Possibly Springsteen & The E Street Band.

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

Wow. No idea. Maybe Ben Folds Five.

1. First Concert, when?

Van Halen (not Van Hager), summer of 1980 I think. It was definitely around the time the third album came out. 16 years old, just got my first car (1970 Pontiac Firebird) and my first fake ID. Good times.

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

See #1.

3. Favorite Band?

Wilco.

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

Five times (plus two solo Tweedy shows)

5. Worst concert you attended?

Not sure.

6. Favorite?

Bob Dylan at the State Theatre in Kalamazoo. Not certain of the dates, but Bob played two nights in Kalamazoo back in the late 80's/early 90's. It was the first time I saw Bob and it exceeded all of my expectations. Or maybe Tweedy at the Calvin College Chapel w/ Glen. Small crowd, awsome songs, and crickets.

The most significant show I ever saw was SRV and Double Trouble at the Kalamazoo County Fair in August 2007. It was the last show he played before the Alpine Valley gigs and that tragic helicopter crash.

7. Band you have seen the most?

Wilco or Dylan

8. How many times?

See #4

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Allen Park CO to Pine Knob (metro Detroit).

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

Metro Detroit or Chicago. I don't see the need to travel to far to see the bands I want to see when they tour. What is the saying, let the mountain come to Mohammad?

11. How many concerts have you seen?

80-100 maybe.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

$100, not sure.

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

I saw U2 right around the time Boy came out at a church in GR. The weather was horrible (snow, wind) and there might have been 150-200 people there. They still kicked ass.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

MMJ or Arcade Fire

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

Nope.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

Probably a Dead show.

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

I saw the Replacements on the Don't Tell a Soul tour at the State in Kalamazoo. I seem to recall that they only played for about an hour or so.

1. First Concert, when?

Lenny Kravitz with opener Blind Melon, 1993-ish

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

Probably that Kravitz/Blind Melon show

3. Favorite Band?

The Drive-By Truckers

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

I've seen the full band probably 8 times or so. We've caught solo Patterson, solo Jason, and Jason with the 400 unit probably 6 more times

5. Worst concert you attended?

Dar Williams several times. I've actually really enjoyed several of her shows. A 930 Club concert stood out where she opened with her slow, boring cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." On a positive note, most of the crowd was short lesbians, so I could see everything on stage well, had no line in the men's bathroom, and it was always easy to get to the bar. Seeing her at a sit-down place in Alexandria, VA nearly put me to sleep.

6. Favorite?

Like others I'll pick more than one...DBT when Patterson was sick, so it was an almost all Cooley affair. First DBT concert was a revelation. Seeing the Who for the first time (at a festival in Baltimore) was amazing, and I'm not even that big of a fan. Ben Lee with Har Mar Superstar was a blast, mostly because of Har Mar.

7. Band you have seen the most?

emmet swimming (local Virginia band)

8. How many times?

At least 15-20 times

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Hmm, not too far I don't think. I've been to Baltimore (from northern Virginia) for some shows and Richmond for another (but that was only from Charlottesville). Luckily most acts come through the Washington DC metro area, so we never have to drive too far to see bands we love.

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

Jazz Fest in New Orleans last year

11. How many concerts have you seen?

It has to be around 100, but maybe not too many more than that.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

Spent $125 or so to see Paul McCartney three or four years ago. I don't like to spend too much. If they aren't playing at the 930 Club for less than $40, I'm apt not to go. I'm set in my ways.

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

This probably shouldn't count, but I saw David Gray at an old club called Trax in Charlottesville in 2000 or so. He had been signed to Dave Matthews' label at that point, but hadn't really hit it big yet. There were maybe 50 people there, including Dave Matthews.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

Right now I'd actually love to see the Killers. My taste in music has certainly broadened recently, and I imagine they put on a great show. I'd also love to see the Flaming Lips.

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

Sadly, no. I don't think I'd know what to do if I ever did get backstage. I'd probably just be awkward.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

~ 3 hours from DBT

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

I saw Weezer on their Green Album tour and they played for probably 50 minutes. It kind of sucked. I haven't seen them since then and don't plan to any time soon.

The Tragically Hip

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

6 times all over the place. Once in Lewiston, once in London Ontario, once in Pittsburgh, once in Chicago, and twice in Rochester

5. Worst concert you attended?

I've seen a lot of free shitty concerts over the past few years. Hard to pick.

6. Favorite?

Tragically Hip in Rochester over the summer. It was an outdoor show and it started pouring buckets. The energy in the crowd was great and Gord was loving the rain. Just a great show.

7. Band you have seen the most?

Tragically Hip

8. How many times?

6 times

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

25 or so. Free summer concert series in Buffalo mostly but I'm only 19 so that will grow.

70 bucks to see The Tragically Hip in Lewiston the first time. Almost topped that when I bought my Pittsburgh Wilco ticket off stubhub.

6. Favorite?

I've seen some tremendous shows. '78, '79 had some standouts; Springsteen, B52s, Neil Young, Dylan, Pretenders. The David Lindley and El Rayo X show at Parody Hall in 1982 is still talked about in hushed tones. Tom Waits in '82. 13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

I saw both B52s and Pretenders in tiny bars about the time they broke.

Tweedy at a living room show. 30 adults. 1 dog. 1 child.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

Mostly dead people.

Alive but back in the day: Bowie. Prince. Lou Reed. Talking Heads. Kate Bush.

I would really like to see Slim Cessna and the boys one of these days.

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

It's been offered, but unless I know the dudes I'm generally not interested. Seems kind of weird to me.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

I've been kind of lucky that way.

amended and edited

1. First Concert, when?

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. May, 1976 is Shreveport Louisiana

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

That would be one and the same as #1

3. Favorite Band?

Wilco and the Boss

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

Wilco...twice. Springsteen 15 times.

5. Worst concert you attended?

Aerosmith on the Draw the Line Tour on the Shreveport stop. Tyler and Perry were so fucking high it was absolutely wretched. I saw them again at the TEXXAS Jam and they were really good. Guess that's why they call it dope.

6. Favorite?

Either Springsteen in Dallas in 1978 or Cheap Trick in 1979

7. Band you have seen the most?

Springsteen.

8. How many times?

..15 times

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Well...I followed Springsteen from Across the South in 1978...a really long week and a half.

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

That would be Nashville.

11. How many concerts have you seen?

Not really sure...but I've been seeing shows since I was 15 years old with a hiatus from the mid-80's to 1992.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

The tickets I bought for D-man and me to see U2 in October are the most expensive so far.

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

Not counting club dates, I have mainly attended shows in Arenas and large halls. So, when I say that the Wilco show at the Palladium in Dallas, it is not because the show was sparsely attended (far from the case), it is because I have generally attended shows in much large venues. But, for an arena show, the Hall and Oates show in Shreveport in 1977 was not particularly well attended...but it was a killer show.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

Drive by Truckers

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

Nah...I lead a boring life.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

I have seen some pretty epic Springsteen shows. But the Cotton Bowl show in 1985 was particularly epic.

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

Foreigner or the Motels...

18. Show with the lowest expectations and was surprisingly good.

INXS right after the release of Shabooh Shoobah. They BURNED up the stage. Adam Ant on his solo tour was also surprisingly good.

1. First Concert, when?

My parents tell me that it was Elton John at the Boston Garden on his 1982 Jump Up! tour. I was only 4. I never think of my parents as "those" people that bring their kid to a loud show.

My 1st concert that I was fully conscious for was also Elton in 1988 at the Worcester Centrum. I guess this tour was significant because Elton dropped his grand piano and went with a Roland keyboard. Edit: Yeah, I'm not going to call him Sir because he wasn't Knighted yet.

2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

U2 PopMart Foxboro Stadium 1997 - My 1st run in with an official fan club ticketing system allowed me to somehow pull 4th row dead center (Edge's side) for my 1st ever U2 show. Any lifelong U2 fan should be pissed at that luck. :pirate

3. Favorite Band?

WIlco

4. How Many Times have you seen them?

Jeff Tweedy 2

Wilco 18 times after next Tuesday & Wednesday

5. Worst concert you attended?

Tie:

The Vines at the Avalon in Boston in April 2002. It came out soon after that the lead singer had serious anxiety issues. He was seriously out of it.

Pete Yorn in April 2002 at the Avalon in Boston comes a close second. He had 0 stage presence. This made me want to kill him or never listen to his music again. I chose the latter.

6. Favorite?

Probably for Wilco the Tanglewood show in 2008.

U2 probably one of the Vertigo tour shows.

Pearl Jam any show from 2003. I went to both MSG shows and all three nights at Boston "Tweeter Center" where they played their "whole" catalog.

The White Stripes Easter Sunday April 2003 Boston Orpheum

Elvis Presley November 10, 1971 AMAZING Show!

7. Band you have seen the most?

WIlco, U2, & Pearl Jam are all up there around 15-20.

8. How many times?

I can't do it Captain! I need more time.

9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

Probably 6 hours to see U2 in Montreal on the Elevation tour. The loudest of the tour according to their decibel checker. Bono got his shirt ripped off by some crazy canuck.

6 hours headed south to see NetAid in October of 1999 at Giants Stadium. Probably not worth it considering it finished closed to 1am and I had to drive home with 2 people in the car who slept.

10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

I saw Wilco in Chicago twice during Thanksgiving 2006.

I also have seen Sting & Annie Lennox in Las Vegas in 2004. Annie Lennox blew him out of the water.

I almost saw Jeff Tweedy at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles when I was there on vacation in Feb 2006. I didn't want to wait alone in a line and try to find one ticket.

11. How many concerts have you seen?

Eh....I'd say about a 108.

12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

I paid $5.50 to see Oingo Boingo in Durango, Illinois.

13. Least amount of people at a concert by a major labeled artist.

There weren't many people at Wyclef Jean at UNH-Durham in April 2000. It was a college show, so maybe that explains it.

14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

The Arcade Fire

Violent Femmes

15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

Yes. I was on Ryan Adams' tour bus at Hampton Beach, NH in April of 2006. I have told the story a few times on here.

16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

Pearl Jam - July 11, 2003 : They did an acoustic set to open for Sleater-Kinney. Then they came back for a very long show to finish their promise of playing every song. They never played Red Mosquito, Glorified G, & Last Exit.

17. Shortest show by a headliner?

Gary Coleman at the Baba Ganoosh Theater in Mantrelli, CT.

18. Have you ever been at a show which has been recorded and released?

The Up In Smoke Tour - Summer 2000 Worcester Centrum, MA (I'm even in it with my friend)

U2 - Elevation Tour 2001 Boston Garden (I'm pretty sure that I can see myself during Stay when Bono & Edge are doing it acoustic. wow that sounded so naughty)

Pearl Jam - MSG 2003

The White Stripes April 2003 Boston Orpheum was on WBCN and released over the airwaves :pirate

The Strokes Bank Of America Pavillion 2002 Fall see above

Radiohead Tweeter Center 2003 see above...WBCN used to broadcast shows but now they're a sports radio station :blush

Craig Ferguson WIlbur Theater Boston October 2008

NetAid was broadcast on VH1 and I still haven't watched it yet. I'm guessing no one remembers this?

19. What's the biggest band you saw in the smallest club?

Well, I saw Eddie Vedder at the Boston Opera House.

I saw Billy Joel at Nashua High School (NH) in 98 I think. It was one of his Q & A things that he used to do. For sure I thought that it was actually an intervention for him.

20. Bands you wanted to see but for whatever reason didn't/couldn't

I couldn't see Duran Duran because these two bitchy women kicked me out of my seat claiming that I wasn't supposed to be there. So I had to go upstairs and listen to the show. The security at Agganis Arena sucks. I also experienced another strange altercation during the Pixies there when this young couple stood right in front of me and I was in the 1st row on the 2nd section of the floor. This girl's butt was right at my crotch and she was barely stepping on my toes. I tried tapping her...shoulder...and she didn't turn around. So I blew on her hair and she spun around and threw her water at me and then finally a security guard came over (Father Time btw) ready to kick me out. I told him to check their tickets and he saw that they were not supposed to be there.

I couldn't see The Music (remember them?) because I got stuck on the T This story gets told a lot by friends to embarrass me. No one remembers or heard of The Music. They opened for either Pete Yorn or The Vines.

I couldn't see Red Hot Chili Peppers because I was kidnapped and stuck in the trunk for the duration of the show. I think I made out on that one.
